Saving To Database From Fields Created By DOM
Feb 6, 2009
For some reason I cant get the values to save to database. Here is an example and have tried many ways to save. Works normal if the textbox's are already part of the page & is a normal form but does not save when document.createElement() is used.:confused:
Form.php
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "[URL]">
<html>
<head>
<script type="text/javascript">
function test(which){
var val=document.getElementById('prompt').getElementsByTagName('input');
for(var i=0; i<val.length-3; i++) {
tbID='textbox' +(i+1)+'[' +which+']';
document.form0[tbID].value=val[i].value;
} .....

On my website I have a simple shop where you can add items to your cart. To make things nicer, we have Javascript to handle the process to make it faster. The problem I am having is that Opera does not save the cookie that the javascript creates.
Here's the relevant code:
Code:
function createCookie(name,value,days){
var expires = "";
if (days){
var date = new Date();
date.setTime(date.getTime()+(days*24*60*60*1000));
expires = "; expires="+date.toGMTString();
}else
expires = "";
document.cookie = name+"="+value+expires+"; path=/";
}
Full code: [URL]
You can see it live if you go to [URL] click on "Kaupa" (Icelandic for Buy) on any item. You will see a nice simple animation once you do. Once an item has been added, a cookie is created but in my Opera 10.53 the cookie does not exist. Browsing any other pages will result in the cart being empty. What am I doing wrong? Works for every other major browser except Opera.

Question: I need a few good idea on the best way to save a webpage (even better a node of a webpage) in which a user has created new elements. (via javascript?)
Concept: User creates elements on a canvas (via Javascript) then has the option to save the layout of those elements. upon pushing save the Javascript packages the created and/or changed elements and sends then to the server to be processed by PHP
and saved.
Hurdles: saved data must include style attibutes, text, child nodes and so on. The when other users view the page PHP will build the elements from the original user saved file.
What I have Done:I have managed to use Xmlserializer to output the "canvas" element in firefox and safri I have used .outputHTML in IE to complish the same thing.Of course there are a few differences when comparing the two strings, mainly having to do with commas.IE does not surround id's in commas and FF does. This has me thinking there has to be a better way more consistant way. on other ways to save dynamic elements using Javascript, and PHP.

I want to give the user the abillity to add extra fields as needed.
I've got it working in IE (surprsingly this works in IE but not in
Firefox), however, basically I have an input field for a paragraph. If
the user decides they want two paragraps then they can click an image
and a new textarea field is show that allows them to add another
paragraph. The fields are named as an array for example name="para[0]"
the next one would then be name="para[1]". Firefox creates the field
and shows it to the user however when you submit the form the new field
does not come through. My array of paragraphs consists only of the
original number I started with. Any added by the javascript are lost.
Again IE this works fine, Firefox it works till you submit the form.
Any ideas?

I have a js script:
var inputCounter = 0;
function addInput(divName){
var newdiv = document.createElement('div');
[Code].....
was working perfectly, until i did some minor changes to the script that was not even related to that part of the script, and it now shows Notice: Undefined index: f1 in C:Apache2.2htdocs sindex.php on line xxx meaning that the data is not set anymore. everything else is working perfectly. the fields are still added as before, but the data does not post. what might cause this not to work all of a sudden?

The link below is a stripped down section of a form.
[url]
The problem I'm having is with altering the names of the fields. I'm trying to add an identifier on the end. "_X_1", "_X_2" after the new sections are added.
NOTES:
Incidentally, "_X_" is a delimiter so the key can be converted into an array on the back end to extract data from it.
I can't alter the "repeater" variable because it would be extremely complicated on the back end.

The example page is: [URL]
What I have at the moment is 8 images generated by WordPress Custom Fields; 4 thumbnails and their corresponding images. The 4 bigger images are all positioned absolutely so they sit on top of each other. The 4 thumbnails are just below and are floated <li>'s. When I click on the thumbnail, I want to add the class of "current", which sets the opacity of the image to 1.0, and remove the class of "current" from the currently visible image, which sets the opacity to 0.0.
What I'd like to do is remotely link the thumbnails (each of which have an anchor tag) to their corresponding images. Each set of 4 images is in its own <ul> and its own <div>, but all wrapped up in one wrapping div.
The jQuery that I'm trying to work out is:
jQuery("#contactThumb li a").click(function() {
var jQueryThumbRel = jQuery(this).attr("rel");
var jQueryImageRel = jQuery("#contactImage li img").find(jQueryThumbRel);
jQuery("#contactImage .current").removeClass("current");

I have two drop-down fields that are populated separately from the database. Here is my HTML/PHP code
Drop-down field #1
<tr class=bodyTRstyle>
<td width="35%"><p align="left">Venue</td>
<td class=fieldTDstyle width="269"><p align="left">
<select name="VenueName" class=VenueName><option selected><?php echo $VenueName?></option
<?php
$SelectVenueQuery="select * from venue order by VenueName";
$SelectVenueResult=mysql_query($SelectVenueQuery);
while ($VenueRow=mysql_fetch_array($SelectVenueResult)){
extract($VenueRow);
echo "<option value='$VenueName'>$VenueName";}?>
</select></td></tr>
Drop-down Field #2
<tr class=bodyTRstyle>
<td width="35%"><p align="left">Results</td>
<td class=fieldTDstyle width="269"><p align="left">
<select name="GameResults" class=GameResults><option selected>
<?php echo $GameResults?></option
<?php
$ResultsQuery="select * from result order by ResultDate";
$ResultsQueryResult=mysql_query($ResultsQuery);
While ($ResultsRow=mysql_fetch_array($ResultsQueryResult)){
extract($ResultsRow);
echo "<option value='$ResultDate'>$ResultDate";}?>
</select></td></tr>
This code works well as long as the two drop-downs are independent of each other. The result table has VenueName as an element, so each venue has a set of result records in the result table. This is how I want to change it: The Venue dropdown will remain as it is. Once the Venue Name is selected I want the result dropdown to populate with ONLY the result records containing a match on VenueName that was selected in the venue dropdown. How do I do that? Is it with a onChange Event? What are the changes that need to be made? How do I communicate to the second drop-down what was selected in the Venue drop-down??

I have a situation where I need to populate form fields by grabbing information from a database when the user enters information in a specific field. I got this to work with a single field just to make sure I had the basics in place:
* User fills out "Field A" onchange event triggers Javascript function that uses Ajax to search and retrieve info from database (PHP/MySQL) Javascript function autofills "Field B" with Ajax response
Works perfectly. My trouble is that I need to do this with a whole series of fields at once, not just one. I tried using the PHP to output a Javascript array and then use the values from the array to populate the fields, but that didn't work. I got a message saying that my array was undefined. I'm not even sure this was the proper way to approach this, but it's all I could think of.

I have been searching how to connect to a database and execute some queries, and then use the data that I get to populate some tables in a web page, all this using javascript.
I am confused because I have seen in some webpages that javascript is not designed to connect with databases, and also I have see other pages where they say that it is possible.
Does anyone know if it is possible to use javascript to connect to a database (informix), and execute some procedures or queries?

I have been looking for the past 2 days for a script that I can add and delete table rows.
I have found a lot but so far all of them add an input field but I desperatly need a textarea or ideally a section of input fields.
I have tried to change the code from input to text area but none of them worked.
Have you come across to a similar script.
I would appreciate any contributions.
What I am trying to do is a page where the user will add their employees details so we can order business cards for them. So I have fileds such as, Name, Tel Num, Email, Cell etc.

I have a problem with cookies set via javascript. What I try to
achieve is, when a user comes on the intranet, he can click on a link (
a simple href) that will set the content to french or english. I want
to set a cookie to persist that choice each time the user comes back on
the intranet. This feature must be available everywhere on the
intranet and the link is placed in an inner asp script called Menu.asp
which is included each time a page loads.
Now, I know it's maybe not the best way to achieve this but I'm just
working from what has been made by others, I cannot change the way
things are made, too much work would be involved and they won't accept
to give time to do everything all over again.
The best approach I got was to set a querystring value and replace the
cookie value from vbscript code. The problem is, the intranet we have
use a lot of the querystrings for a lot of features and when I click
the English/French link, that info is lost. I've tried to set a
mechanism to keep all the querystring and only add a new value but I
got weird results...
So I've turned to Javascript and still got no luck... For some
reasons, the cookie gets deleted from the cookie file as soon as my
javascript modifies the cookie.
Here's an example:

I have multiple fields in a form with the same name. Lets call the fields with the same name "junk_array". My first field of junk_array is a input type=hidden. All the others fields in junk_array that follow are type=text. I can reference this first hidden field in IE with document.form.field[0].value. In, fact my form works absolutely wonderful in IE 6. However, netscape 4.7 does not recognize my first field in the array as the hidden field. Netscape sees the first visible text field as the first field in the array, subscript 0. What totally and utterly perplexes me, is that, from a previous thread, I can do this and get 9999 back in an alert
box in Netscape and IE. So, this proves Netscape doesn't have some evil code that disregards hidden fields. I guess...
<body onload="alert(document.myForm.test[0].value);">
<form name="myForm">
<input type="hidden" name="test" value="9999">
<input type="hidden" name="test" value="8888">
<input type="text" name="test" value="6">
<input type="text" name="test" value="3">
</form>
I even copied these fields directly below the opening <form> tag in my form and both Netscape and IE see the first hidden field as as
subscript 0.
However, my form is much more complicated. I have tables within tables and about 30 other fields. In my form I cannot for the life of me get Netscape to recognize the first hidden field of junk_array to zed as index 0.
Somehow, If I make the first type=hidden fields visible, netscape does work nicely. Why when I toggle type=hidden to type=text does Netscape cooperate. What is happening here? Anyone else have this problem with hidden fields in Netscape? I could post the code to my form but it is
big.

WANT: Client to save an image to disk pressing a "download" button.
The image name is dynamic, from JS code on another part of the
page
DID: Read somewhere I can use document.execCommand("SaveAs") to do it
This solves it for MSIE, at least. My code is below
PROBLEM: What actually happens with MSIE is:
1) A window pops up promting me to save as.
2) The filename is correct, but the saveas type shown in the box is limited to "html" and "txt"
3) The "image" that is saved is not an image, but an HTML file containing the link to the image!! This is NOT what I want!
PLEASE help. How do I get MSIE to save the actual image instead?
PS With netscape, instead of the saveas dialogue, a window opens with
the image displayed. By clicking <CTRL-S> I can save the actual image.
