Saving A Form To A File?

Nov 17, 2011

I've been working on my code for some time but I know I'm missing the ability to save the completed time card entry to a file. Can someone assist me with the scripting code for this.I would like the user to be able to specify the location. I have search the forum and I have not found any question like this which surprises me. Please forgive me if I have posted in the wrong area.Currently I have no Java Script code to show for this part of my project because I'm completely stuck. But I have my unfinished XML code that is not pretty because I plan on using a style sheet to enhance. But here is the code for you to get and Idea of what i'm attempting.

Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html

Saving Only A Portion Of Webpage Into A File

Apr 29, 2006

im working on a web application that generates dynamic data. My question is: i want users to be able to save the generated data, but not the whole web page, just a table in the web page that holds this data. I searched and found out that showing a "save as" dialog box is possible with javascript, with a method like: onclick="javascript: document.execCommand('SaveAs',&#391;',null);. However, i coulnd't find out how to change the document object (or is it possible?) or a trick to print just the table of dynamic data.

I tried to cover the table with <div id="myData"></div> and use onclick="javascript: myData.execCommand('SaveAs',&#391;',null); but as you might guess, it didn't work and gave this error message: "object doent support this property or method". Indeed i dont have any idea what div tag can and can't do, so it was just a meaningless try. By the way, i want to add that i can't use iframes just because of program design issues.
Anyway, do you have any suggestions?

JQuery :: Saving A Data Structure To A File?

Mar 1, 2011

I have a JSON data structure that I'm pulling in VIA an AJAX call. What I want to be able to do is click a button/link and be able to save this data structure to disk, but I'm not really sure how to go about this. I've been experimenting with the following:The link has the following format "<a href='data:application/json, " + data_structure + "'>Click here!</a>" I've been able to replace data_structure with text and /json to /rtf, which gives me a pop-up 'SaveAs' dialog box, and when I open the file, it has my text in there. However, if I do data_structure, I just get [Objectobject], which is telling me that I'm passing in the object, but that's basically it, I need to expand it out? I'm not really sure how to do that...Which leads me to calling a perl script. So I make an ajax call like so:

$.ajax({
'dataType': 'JSON',
'type': 'GET',

Saving A New Element To XML, Without Opening The Entire File

Dec 18, 2007

i basically have a log (log.xml) that i'm wanting to add a new "row" to everytime something happens in the web application. however, log.xml has the potential to get huge and opening/saving/etc... could start taking up quite a bit of resources.

i'm just wanting to simply add a new row to the xml file without pulling in the entire xml file. can this be done?

the log looks something like this...
<log>
<entry date="12/18/2007 12:03:42" description="This is a test."></entry>
</log>

and i just want to keep adding to the xml without opening up the entire file.

i also have PHP loaded on the system - so maybe that's an option as well... pass the entry through javascript to PHP and have it write the new entry?

JQuery :: Saving Current HTML Code Source To File?

Oct 26, 2009

I'm new to js/jquery and this forum so please forgive my potentially off-scope js/jquery remarks. I've been running a lot of toggles to show, hide, etc... divs and other HTML elements. It's making my application incredibly nice navigation wise.

Now to put myself in my users shoes. Say one user toggles on and off the things they want and don't want until they are satisfied with all the content of the screen. (That is by the way the nature of my application. A user loads in various variables via PHP and other means and when satisfied, a PDF is generated for them containing all their preferred content.)

Because: When a user is at a point where all the content they are viewing is worthy of a PDF, it is also worth saving that HTML 'view' (classes switched, variable adjusted, etc...). I would call it 'Save this workspace' or something along those lines.

I don't have a direct question per se but am more interested in the views of others who have similar thoughts and moreover, what relationship has jQuery had in helping employing some method?

Saving A Form Value To A Cookie

Apr 16, 2001

I want to save the form value for a persons USERNAME in a cookie when they are logging into my free e-mail service. So when they come back I can lookup the cookie and write the value for their username back into that spot in the form.

I've got it working for the drop-down menu so that it will change to whatever domain they selected the last time they logged in but I can't get it to work for the username box.

Chaning URL / Saving Passw W Form

Nov 13, 2007

I need solution to change the url but not the page.

I need something like whan going to a site, the url changes to
whatever, but there is no page count, so I just get the new (right)
address, but when going back I go back to the page I came from.
Secondly I dont want a back-trap.

Why?

Say someone opens www.mysite.com, end is gives index.php to the clinet
- which enters a password and the browser offers to save that -
later, when logged out, the client is sent to www.mysite.com/index.php,
and the browser offers to save that password too... for another url,
but still the same page...

Rapidly Saving Text Form

Nov 2, 2010

I need to make a generic text field with the bizarre requirements that:

a) the text typed is automatically (or rapidly, on short, fixed intervals) stored on the server

b) the text typed in either disappears or is hidden from view (as in password dots) from the user.

I have a good amount of experience with HTML and Java, but done with this level of complexity. I can't get my head around it. The password dots I know will be easy, but rapidly storing the information in the text field boggles me.

JQuery :: Saving The State Of An Ajax Form?

Aug 17, 2009

I have a page with a simple form: 3 hidden fields and 3 selects. I load the data for the first select via Ajax on domready. I have "change" event handlers for all 3 fields. If I select something in the first select, the corresponding data gets loaded into the second select via Ajax etc. So it's a "cascade" of selects. When an option in the 3rd select is being selected, I save the values of all 3 selected options in the hidden fields, and create a button for submitting the form. Until here everything works fine. When a users hits the submit button, he is being forwarded to a results page. Now, when the user hits the back button, and the page with the form gets loaded again, I check if the first hidden field has a value. If so, I try to fill all the form fields with the values the user had entered (i.e. the selections he made), which means I make 3 Ajax calls (to have all the data available), and mark the options the user had selected as selected. That works fine in FF 3 and 3.5, Safari 4, as well as IE 7 right now. IE 6 only display the data of the first select (as if the other two Ajax calls aren't successful or something - no errors though), while Opera 9 doesn't seem to remember the values of the 3 hidden fields (same issue with IE 8, but I'm using IE Tester, which is not always reliable). The html and jquery code (leaving out all the details) look like this:

<form id="myform" action="action.php" method="get">
<input name="manu_saved" id="manu_saved" type="hidden" />
<input name="series_saved" id="series_saved" type="hidden" />
<input name="type_saved" id="type_saved" type="hidden" />

JQuery :: Form Plugin File Upload Doesn't Attach File

Jun 6, 2011

I have a problem with the latest version of the jQuery Form Plugin (2.80). To be more precise, I guess I am doing something wrong, and with an older version (2.67) somehow it didn't matter.With the old version, the file was uploaded without problems. Now Firefox opens a new Tab on clicking the submit button and nothing is done. Chrome doesn't open a new tab, but also nothing happens. In Wireshark I can see that there is no file attached in the POST message with the older version, the file was sent.My first guess was that my file handling on the server side is erroneous - but on the other hand, when there is no file attached, what should I handle there?

I have a cgi script provided by my web host to send the contents of the

Can I utilize the cgi script/link from my javascript function and still

Saving Cookie Changes

Jun 12, 2006

I have a problem with cookies set via javascript. What I try to
achieve is, when a user comes on the intranet, he can click on a link (
a simple href) that will set the content to french or english. I want
to set a cookie to persist that choice each time the user comes back on
the intranet. This feature must be available everywhere on the
intranet and the link is placed in an inner asp script called Menu.asp
which is included each time a page loads.

Now, I know it's maybe not the best way to achieve this but I'm just
working from what has been made by others, I cannot change the way
things are made, too much work would be involved and they won't accept
to give time to do everything all over again.

The best approach I got was to set a querystring value and replace the
cookie value from vbscript code. The problem is, the intranet we have
use a lot of the querystrings for a lot of features and when I click
the English/French link, that info is lost. I've tried to set a
mechanism to keep all the querystring and only add a new value but I
got weird results...

So I've turned to Javascript and still got no luck... For some
reasons, the cookie gets deleted from the cookie file as soon as my
javascript modifies the cookie.

Here's an example:

Saving Images With Javascript

Jul 23, 2005

WANT: Client to save an image to disk pressing a "download" button.
The image name is dynamic, from JS code on another part of the
page

DID: Read somewhere I can use document.execCommand("SaveAs") to do it
This solves it for MSIE, at least. My code is below

PROBLEM: What actually happens with MSIE is:
1) A window pops up promting me to save as.

2) The filename is correct, but the saveas type shown in the box is limited to "html" and "txt"

3) The "image" that is saved is not an image, but an HTML file containing the link to the image!! This is NOT what I want!

PLEASE help. How do I get MSIE to save the actual image instead?
PS With netscape, instead of the saveas dialogue, a window opens with
the image displayed. By clicking <CTRL-S> I can save the actual image.
