View 4 RepliesThis question may appear opposite of most, but I'm learning JS using a book and I can't understand why/how this particular code works. I'm working on simply retrieving and passing information to and from html forms. This is a very simple script that will change what is selected in the drop down box depending on a button push.
Here is the script:
Code:
function flip(pizzatype) {
if (pizzatype.value == "Veggie Special") {
document.forms["pizzaform"].topping.value = "veggies";
} else if (pizzatype.value == "Meat Special") {
document.forms["pizzaform"].topping.value = "meat";
} else if (pizzatype.value == "Hawaiian") {
document.forms["pizzaform"].topping.value = "hampineapple";
}}
And here is the form's html:
Code:
<form id="pizzaform" action="#" onsubmit="return false;">
<p>
<input type="button" name="veggiespecial" onclick="flip(veggiespecial)"
value="Veggie Special"/>
<input type="button" onclick="flip(meatspecial)" name="meatspecial"
value="Meat Special" />
<input type="button" onclick="flip(hawaiian)" name="hawaiian"
value="Hawaiian" />
</p>
<p>Main Topping: <select name="topping">
<option value="cheese" selected="selected">Cheese</option>
<option value="veggies">Veggies</option>
<option value="meat">Meat</option>
<option value="hampineapple">Ham & Pineapples</option>
</select></p>
</form>
The way I see it is the button onclick will call the flip function and pass it a var, for example "veggiespecial". I understand the code that will perform the actual change on the drop down menu. What I don't understand is the if statement.
if(pizzatype.value == "veggiespecial")...
Shouldn't it be just (pizzatype == "veggiespecial")?
Why does it have to be pizzatype.value? Where the heck does the .value come from???

1. user click "start" button for the e-test,
2. user need to finish the e-test with in 20 minutes, after 20 minutes the form will auto submit and the data will save into file,
3. me will go to the file folder open it and print out the qestion and anwser.
4. The file will be detele after i print out and the next user can do the e-test again.
I got the time counter and the auto submit script. but i just have no ideal how to save the data into file.
I have been successfully using the following "myAjax" function to load text file information from the server.
ajax.js:
After I load the text file, I store the text "records" into an array by doing something like this:
Where the '}' character is my record delimiter. It could just as easily be ' ' or ' ' or the like.
Again, I am not having any problems doing it this way as it suits my current needs.
Now the question(s)
1. Does the call to read the text data from the external file always read in the entire contents or can I read one line or delimited record at a time and store it to the array directly without the text storage?
2. If the text is always read completely (my suspicion), can I safely delete the "TextInformation" after I convert to the array format? Is there any memory penalty for doing it this way as the text information can be somewhat lengthly and I don't like the idea of having doubled memory usage when I only need the information in array format anyway?
This is the idea I am considering, but I don't know if there are drawback to this method of if there is a better way to accomplish the task.
ajax.js:
I need to know what brand is the pocket pc that is using my website in order to show them a page accordingly.
View 6 Replies View RelatedThe link below is the result of a product search on a website. It displays 2 results. However, the actual results (picture & information) that are displayed on the web page are not present in the "Page Source".
For example, if you search the page source for the string '860723' (which is one of the product numbers visible on the web page) it is not there. What is going on here? It looks to me like dummy images & information in the HTML are first loaded by the browser, and then that dummy info gets replaced by the real information via a javascript function. Is that what's going on?
[url]
I'm trying to retrieve that information by downloading the source in my PHP program. The problem is that the information I want isn't present in the source. It stands to reason that the information is somehow being sent to the browser because I can see it..
In my site I show low quality pictures. When someone right clicks an
image and selects 'Save Picture As...', I wish to let him save the
high quality picture.
Is it necessary to use cookies when you want to save information in a form textfield and be able to click back to that page and the information is still there before submitting it. Sometimes it seems to stay sometimes not?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to use javascript to write information to a log file that's on an external site? What I want to do is have a person put their name and birthday into a form on my site, and then output that information to a partnering site's log file which would be something like www.whatever.com/whatever.file Is this possible? what file type can javascript write to? I put .file because I am unsure.
View 6 Replies View RelatedIt appears that .html() is somehow messing up reading the contents of a div.Here is my php code which loads into the div.
$own_pre_selection .= "<input name='" . mysql_result($result,$i,"did") . "' value='" . mysql_result($result,$i,"did") . "' type='hidden'><span class='addremove' onclick="recordchecks('" . mysql_result($result,$i,"dname") . "','" . mysql_result($result,$i,"did") . "')";><u>Remove</u></span> " . mysql_result($result,$i,"dname") . "<br>";
Here is what I see as source code after the page renders.
<input name='677' value='677' type='hidden'><span class='addremove' onclick="recordchecks('Heart Neoplasms','677')";><u>Remove</u></span> Heart Neoplasms<br><input name='1298' value='1298' type='hidden'><span class='addremove' onclick="recordchecks('Heart Septal Defects; Atrial','1298')";><u>Remove</u></span> Heart Septal Defects; Atrial<br></div>
When I test alert() the .html() contents it appears like this. It seems to screw up the quote escape and changes " to " ;="" after the recordchecks().[code]...
So even though the source code looks perfect, if I alert() the div contents with html() it seems to get a bit garbled in the process.
Can I make a list of hyperlinks that users can customize and save as a cookie by clicking a button and automatically retrieve the cookie so it remembers their list next time? This is kind of what I want to do:

I have written the following code to read contents of a text file using FileReader object of HTML 5 for Google Chrome.
<script>
function handle_files(files) {
var i;
if (checkBrowser("Chrome")) {
for (i = 0; i < files.length; i++) {
file = files[i];
var reader = new FileReader();
ret = [];
reader.onload = function (e) {
console.log(e.target.result)
}reader.onerror = function (stuff) {
console.log("error", stuff)
console.log(stuff.getMessage())
}text = reader.readAsText(file[i]);
alert(text);
}}}
</script>
<input type="file" multiple="multiple" onchange="handle_files(this.files)">
Unfortunately, the variable text always displays as undefined. Everything above the line text = reader.readAsText(file[0]); works fine. Is there any other solution to read a text file using HTML5/JavaScript on Chrome?
I want to have some text in an html file, but I don't want to have several paragraphs in that file. Can I use Javascript to insert text from a different location? If so, how do I do that?Can it really be impossible? I mean, you do it with pictures all the time... I just want to do it with text instead...I can't post any code because I don't know how to do it. >_>" I've been trying to find stuff online, but most of that was to put a whole window inside it, with scrollbars and stuff.

Now that is fine when the text is only one line long. Suppose it's longer? What I want to do is have Javascript give the variable contentString its text from a hosted text file in a similar manner to the way Javascript can insert more Javascript using a hosted .js file.

what i am trying to do is retrieve a json file from a link on a server and then edit it locally.How can i do this on javascript or ajax?
View 6 Replies View RelatedSo, this is my last problem. If I can nail this, then the website will be completely AJAX driven, and will be spectacular.
Now it is really simple.
1) When I hit the button, in the simplified example below, the website sends a code to the server.
2) The server then re-writes the "xyz.js" JavaScript file with a new array of values.
Is there any way to re-retrieve that JavaScript file, from the server to make it the current "xyz.js" rather than the old one that loaded on the client originally.
I can get a new XML data file and re-submit that to the website, but how do I re-retrieve the new JavaScript code?[code]...
I'm in the process of building a web application designed that allows users to embed it into their site using XSS (like adsense, Digg, Reddit, etc). Since XSS requires a Javascript file, I'm having difficulty figuring out how to implement information from a database. In a nutshell, what I'd like to be able to do is allow for accepted users to run my application on their webpage. Which means I will need to pull a client ID from a database, and only allow the user to run the file if their client ID is valid.
However, I haven't the slightest clue how I can perform this since there doesn't seem to be any means of running PHP inside my JS file and have that transfer over to the other user's site. I'd also like to avoid having every single valid ID directly listed in the JS file if possible for the sake of security and avoiding massive clutter and file size. Does anyone know a good way to achieve this, or an alternative way to achieve essentially the same result?
Need info on retrieving a div from one html page and place it or its contents in another div? I'm trying to load tables from different pages into a div on this page. Tables are currently in divs with id-"table". The page I want to load them into also has a table in a div with id="table". I want to replace one table with other tables without leaving the page. That is, I am trying to prevent linking back and forth.
I've tried the following with no results;
xmlHttp.onreadystatechange=function() {
if(xmlHttp.readyState==4) {
divTable = document.getElementById("table").innerHTML=xmlHttp.responseText;
}}
xmlHttp.open("GET","../Menu/level9/menutable24.html",true);
xmlHttp.send(null);
How would i retrieve multiple (GET) values from a php file using AJAX..
Say i had the following function that ask's for a userID variable - how could i ask for more than one variable instead of just userID? [code]...
