I would like to return the style left value from an element. Is this possible with javascript?
<script type="text/javascript">
function moveleft() a test function
{
document.getElementById("first").style.left = "50px";
if I try alert(document.getElementById("first").style.left);
I made the game on the left side of the page two months ago in C++, and a month ago translated it to TI-BASIC on the TI-83, and then yesterday moved it to javascript. I've goota say, Javascript is the way to go! My headaches of TI-BASIC were instantly relieved when I went back to Javascript.
Now for my problem. There isn't really a problem in the sense that the game is fully functional, it's more of just something that bugs me. I created the game in hopes of making it as unobtrusive as possible to the page. The entire game uses 3 css classes and one JS Object named bloc. I want the game to generate its own div to live within, which it currenyl does, but I want the div to be name-less and ID-less, so other scripts in any page will not interfere. Code:
I'm using the jquery topZIndex plugin in my application. It's working great. Now I have a situation though, where I would like to return the element with the highest z-index on the page. The plugin has a function that will return the highest z-index, but it's a value, not an object.
In this case the e.srcElement/e.target should return 'home' or 'about', but instead one of the two layers inside 'home' or 'about' will be returned. And these dont even have a onmouseover attribute! The following page is specially made to make it easy to fix the bug if you know how :-)[URL]
Is there a jQuery function that can cause an element to slide down as in fly from an edge of a screen to the location that it is supposed to be at? The slideDown();function causes an element to start at the top of the container the element it is applied to and then roll down. I guess what I am looking for is something that would on an event slide from an edge of a screen or browser window to where it is supposed to go? Are there any functions or transitions like that?
I have a single web page that is broken into content sections that are all assigned element id's (home, about, services, and contact) and have a fixed navigation bar that points to anchors associated with each element id / page section. Since the navigation bar is fixed, it comes along with us as we scroll through the page. I've got a jQuery smooth scrolling effect that makes a nice transition between sections of the page when you click on one of the navigation links. Between the sections I have an image that looks cool as the page scrolls past between sections.
Problem:Since the page is kind of long, I would like to use the jQuery .hide method to remove page sections that lie between the current section of the page that is being viewed and the section targeted by the navigation link. At the same time, the .show method will be used to ensure the target section of the page is visible. Therefore, I need to include an exception to the list of elements that I am hiding - the element that I am currently viewing (and is consequently being displayed as the current url in the browser due to the anchor tags).ExampleFor instance, say you're viewing the "about" section of the page and you click the navigation link to the "contact" section. The "contact" link in the navigation bar is assigned the id="nav_contact." When you click the "contact" button, I've made the following jQuery happen:
Is there a way of displaying the id of the element under the pointer ?
Please dont ask why I need it, but I do, i found tools that needs installation that provide the same funcitonality. However, I would like to turn on this feature using a flag in my url. Something like debug=1.
with jquery, i try to get the margin-left ($('#mydiv').css('margin-left'), but the function return 0px, unable to retrieve the good value (auto) anyone has idea to retrieve the value "auto" when margin-left is "auto" ?
Danged if I can find the thread, but I swear I saw a $.url() reference in here a day or two ago. It was beingutilized for parsing out the window.location or window.location.search parameters. I made a mental note because that was something I would be needing to do.
Now I can't find it, either because the search isn't finding it or I was dreaming about this function existing.
I rummaged about the API docs and didn't find it there either. Is it something provided by one of the plugins and not a function native to jQuery?
i have a menu generated by a list with nested lists. i want the parent link to stay highlighted when the mouse hovers over the sub menus. because those sub menus are also generated by jquery (qtip), CSS alone won't do it (triedul.topnav li:hover a {background-color: #F00;}).is there a way to do this using jquery?
I'm having some problems understanding the append() function. What I'd like to do is select an element using it's ID and add a row to the table with a HTML form element. The table is dynamically generated using a Django template ( form.as_table() ) so I'm not able to alter the original HTML markup too much.
I have created a form with malsup's Form Plugin wherein it submits on change of the inputs. I have set up my jQuery script to index drop down menus and visible inputs, and uses that index to determine whether keydown of tab should move focus to the next element or the first element, and likewise with shift+tab keydown. However, instead of moving focus to the first element from the last element on tab keydown like I would like it to, it moves focus to the second element. How can I change it to cycle focus to the actual first and last elements? Here is a live link to my form: [URL]. Here is my script:
$(document).ready(function() { var options = { target: '#c_main', success: setFocus
if the dt-element in one of the definition lists has a specific css-property (e.g. length > 100px) then the dd-element with the css-class "subtitle" in the same definition list should be removed.
I'm doing a very simple expand/collapse function using 'slideToggle'. The button that triggers this event simply says 'Expand/collapse'. I want this text to change depending on whether an element is visible or hidden.

I'm creating a pop-up (it's a timer for hotel guest broadband access) with all attributes turned off. But becasue I have location set to 0 the damn url keeps appearing in the title bar. This causes a major problem as the pop-up displays a countdown in the titlebar that the user should be able to see even when minimised and at present cannot because the url takes up all the room. Code:
I've got a simple navigation system set up in a framed site: navigation/top frame and a main body frame. Whenever you click on a navigation button it passes the new location to this function:
In IE the page changes to Ƈ.7.htm'. In FF (and MZ) the page "flashes" but doesn't change. If I uncomment the alert the page changes. If I put the link in the nav frame the page changes in FF.
Here is my relevant code for an arbitrary page (let's call it PAGE_B): <body onload="window.location.hash='anchor'">
With this code, if the user goes from PAGE_A to PAGE_B, he will jump to PAGE_B#anchor after PAGE_B has fully loaded. BUT... if he clicks the back button, instead of returning to PAGE_A (which is what I want), he will return to PAGE_B (without the anchor).
Is there any way to change this behavior... perhaps to replace the anchor of page without touching the history stack?
I am creating a "Please wait..." page to show a friendly message to my site users while the data is being loaded. I am using location.replace() javascript function to do this.
The problem that I am facing is displaying the records that the application has already processed on the wait page. Does anybody know what can I do to pass data field value from the end page where the data processing is going in background on to the wait page.
Thus far I have it all setup in terms of the divs:
[url]
The setup is :
..then right_sidebar gets made the same height automatically as main_contents. I've color coded them to hopefully make it easier to see whats going on.
The code I'm using is:
As far as I can see its calling the right codes... yet it never seems to move #side_ads.
I'm aware there are plugins that do the same job - but I wanna try and avoid that if possible, as I'm pretty sure this should be simple to do - I must just be missing something.
i m working a web app in which i wanna remove the address bar after login. i created a function in which i said location=no but still i see the address bar. is there any other object to disable it? or am i doing it wrong
I am using Internet Explorer, and I am creating a navigation bar that will take place for the one in the normal. It is in a frame, whick is my homepage. I have an address bar, and when you click go, or enter, the bottom half goes to that page. If you click a link on that page however, the URL in the address bar does not change. Is there a way that it can update itself with the URL of the other frame?
