Retrieving Information From A Website Using JavaScript ?

Jul 28, 2006

Basically I am working on the development of a database where a user enters
an address (street, city, state, zipcode). Based on the user input of the
address, I need to dynamically determine the latitude and longitude of that
address from the internet. Code:

Page Owner Information In Footer Of Website

Jul 23, 2005

I would like all of our intranet pages to provide a link to the site
owner... and when clicked the visitor should be able to send the owner
an email.

I was using ASP to do this (see below) but I would like to not have
use the .asp extension on all 70,000 of our pages...

Can i somehow get this (or similiar) functionality using javascript?
You will notice that a _siteinfo.txt file has to be dropped into each
directory for the code to work.

This code also generates a page last modified date... but I did figure
out how to get that info using javascript. Code:

Retrieving Form Values In Javascript

Sep 29, 2006

I am trying to create a form for authorised users to upload photos to
an image gallery. I'm attempting to perform simple validation of the
fields by ensuring the fields aren't empty and that the extensions are
right. However, I can't seem to access the actual values of the fields
to start with.

If I simplify my problem, can anyone tell me why this would work in a
Javascript alert:

alert(document.form.Photo1.value);
//This outputs 'D:/images/x.jpg'

but this won't:

var photonumber = "Photo" + 1;
alert(document.form.photonumber.value);
// I get "undefined"

The reason I'm doing this is because I'm looping through a finite set
of images and need to check each one is valid.

Is it because I'm not initialising the "photonumber" string correctly?

Javascript Information Retrieval

Jul 20, 2005

Is there anyway to use javascript to be able to retrieve information from
someone, then have it post to a text document on a server? Without
overwriting whats in the document at the time. The server I'm using doesn't
support php, asp, or anything to be able to database (that and i don't even
know how, yet). Plus, I don't need it to retrieve from a database...just a
simple text file that can be written to and read from.

Javascript Not Submitting Information

Jan 9, 2007

This functions great, but when the form is submitted the fields that rely on the script are not transmitted. I am using FrontPage for my forms and would like to continue, if possible. The fields "Option1" & "Option2" are the fields that aren't being submitted correctly. If I don't select these options then EMPTY is submitted, correctly. If I select a value such as Topic1, then the form is submitted with the answer blank. Code:

Javascript Can't Print Viewed Information

Mar 11, 2007

I have a printing problem that I'm hoping someone can solve.

I have a small company website that uses javacript under IE5.5. For
web pages that display large lists I used a div to build a simulated
iframe.

When a user pulls the right slide to move down the table and decides
to print the screen, the printed output shows the information from the
beginning of the table and stop after 13 lines. This often differs
from the "view area" on the client desktop.

Any suggestions how to get the "view area" to the printer?

Using Javascript To Record Soundclip Through Website

Aug 5, 2006

Have any of you come across a way that would allow you to essentially record a small sound clip through a website using your microphone?

I was thinking that it would be nice to allow friends and family record a little message on our family's website for us to play back for our daughter.

I currently have a "send us a message" form on our website that emails me the messages friends and family type... but what about audio?

I am assuming this would be a javascript solution.... have any of you come across something like this? It wouldnt have to be very fancy... just a button that you could maybe click and hold, speak, and then let go of the button. Maybe a little sound meter would be nice, too...

Retrieving Cookies

May 15, 2006

I have the code below that will retrieve a cookie that was placed by the server (ie: joes.com) that the document resides on. I want to be able to retrieve a cookie set by another server (ie: freds.com) but I want to retrieve it from a page served by joes.com. This code apparently using 'document.cookie' determines the server that the document resides on and looks for cookies from that server. Anybody know of code that will let you determine the server?

var name = "cookie";
function getCookie(name) {
var cname = name + "=";
var dc = document.cookie;

if (dc.length > 0) {
begin = dc.indexOf(cname);
if (begin != -1) {
begin += cname.length;
end = dc.indexOf(";", begin);
if (end == -1) end = dc.length;
return unescape(dc.substring(begin,
end));
}
}
return null;
}

Working With XML And Retrieving Nodes

function Xml_feed(file)
{
this.load = function()
{
var txt, str, title;
var threads = xml.getElementsByTagName('thread');
var len = threads.length;
var box = document.getElementById('box-a');
while (len-->0) {
txt = document.createElement('button');
title = threads[len].getElementsByTagName('title');
str = threads[len].getElementsByTagName('author');
txt.setAttribute('label', title[0].childNodes[0].nodeValue + ' by ' + str[0].childNodes[0].nodeValue);
box.appendChild(txt);
}
};

var xml = document.implementation.createDocument("","",null);
xml.onload = this.load;
try {
xml.load(file);
} catch (e) {
alert('There was a problem loading the XML file');
}
}
var feed = new Xml_feed('blah.xml');

in the red:

Is that how I should be retrieving the value from a child node? (the getElementsByTagName)..

in the blue:

I tried doing this.xml but had problems with doing that, i.e,
this.xml = document.implementation.createDocument("","",null);
this.xml.onload = this.xml.load;
try {
this.xml.load(file);
} catch (e) {
alert('There was a problem loading the XML file');
}
I'll guess that text in the red is why..
btw, this was in an XUL app.. not sure how much that would matter though..
