Replacing Multiple Children - In List
Aug 11, 2010
Is there a way to replace multiple items in a list in one go (without multiple re-paints)? I see there is a replaceChild method supported but it seems like it only supports replacing one child at a time.

I have a table that has parts with multiple characteristics. Part Number, Height, Width, Capacity, Price, Etc. I would like to have a drop downs for all of these values, when a user selects one of these values it will filter the results into a list. Ex. user selects a part that has a Height of 6 and width of 10 it will only list those parts. As I said earlier, I have a script that will give me all the parts, however I am not able to make the onchange list parts with multiple values.

I am creating a quote calculator as a mobile app using the JQuery Mobile plugin in Dreamweaver CS5.5. This supports HTML5 & Javascript.
I have included a drop down list in which the user selects a specific Annual Volume. I have 2 different calculations that need to be done based on the users selection. Different calculations meaning that I need 2 different number values assigned to the option.
For Example:
Calculation #1 (I'm calculating what the Run Quantity is based on what the user selects as the Annual Volume. If user selects an Annual Volume of 150,000 then the calculated result for Run Quantity needs to be 3500)
HTML for this scenario:

Annual Volume:

onChange="Calculate();">
[Code].....
Currently I am simply having the user enter the annual volume twice so I can do the 2 calculations, but this is really clunky and not ideal.

I was wondering how you would list multiple variables after a equal ==?
Example....
if ( pathname == schoolinformation, chaplainchatter)
$('#button_newspress_archive,#button_tech_college,#button_parent_portal,#button_transition_portal,#button_6th_form,#button_connect,#button_vacancies,#button_vle_login').css('display', 'none');
$('#school_information_sub').css('display', 'block');
if ( pathname != schoolinformation, chaplainchatter)
$('#school_information_sub').css('display', 'none');
Or even list multiple URL's within the variables?
Example
....
var schoolinformation = '/st-paul-s-website/school-information/school-news/headteachers-headlines', '/st-paul-s-website/school-information/school-news/chaplain-chatter-headlines';

I have a drop down with approx. 200 elements, each option element has a value such as value="1", value="23", etc. Given a list of values, such as 5, 34, 43, 68, 123, how can pass those values to a function and then insert selected for each corresponding element?

i have a select element:

and I have two radio buttons to enable/disable:
HTML Code:
<INPUT TYPE=radio NAME="f1" VALUE="option 1" (this.value)"><INPUT TYPE=radio NAME="f1" VALUE="option 2" (this.value)">
Javascript is as follow:
Code:
function Disab (val) {
frm=document.send;
if(val=="option 1") {
frm.test1.disabled=true;
} else {
frm.test1.disabled=false;}
}
It appears when I name the select element with '[]' it doesn't work. Is there another way to gather data from element via php or is there another way to identifiy the element to disable.

I'd like to limit the number of selections a user can make in a
multiple select listbox. I have a note on the interface to say that
only x no. of items should be selected and I check the number server
side but I'd like to implement some javascript to do the same on the
client side. Ideally I'd like the javascript to work in IE5+ and
Netscape6+.

When using a select combo box that has multiple selections enabled, my server was not seeing it as an array. It was only seeing it as a single variable value. All I did to correct this was add [] and the end of the name attribute.
Ex.
[code][/code]
Now my LAMP server sees this variable as an array in the $_REQUEST

how to implement this bit of UI wizardry. I have a list of categories and the user is asked to pick all applicable items and then rate them individually. Right now I have a long list with checkboxes. Whenever a user checks one of the boxes a rating control pops up next to it and they just select the number of stars they want to rate the item.
Although this works for my purposes, it's a bit clumsy and takes up a lot of real estate (I have 30 items in the list so far and this may grow). What would be the best way to get this done?

I have a form that I am using to generate an email with several user
selected fields being part of it. As part of this form, I have a select
box which allows the user to select which email addresses it should be
sent to. The box works great except that the CGI script I'm sending the
values to can only parse a single line for each field in the form. The
issue comes into play when someone selects more than one value in the
select box, the output of the select box seems to separate each value
on a separate line using a line feed (or carriage return, I can't
tell). The format that the CGI script needs is for a single line with
each of these values separated by a comma. I'm confident that a
javascript can do this fairly easily, but unfortunately, I am not very
well versed in javascript. I've found a few code snippets on the web
that I've mangled together, but since I don't really know what I'm
doing, it isn't working out so good. I've included what I have in the
form right now below (note that I've removed all of the other form data
but the select box code to save space). Code:

I've got the following almost working properly:
[Code]...
It will be included on the pages in the list and I'd like the list to remember the last selected (showing the user what page in the list they're on). I can't figure out how (other than manually doing it on every page).
The other thing is that the + and - buttons change the item selected for ALL select lists on a page, it's pretty cool but not what I'd like it to do. You can see it working on [URL]..

I am developing a messaging service between members of my site. I am developing this with asp.net mvc. When a user goes to the SendMessage view to send a message to another member, there is a dropdown list which presents the sender with all the members of the site, which he or she will pick as the recipient. However, i don't want it to be a dropdown, i want it to be a text box, where a user types in the first couple of letters of a name, and the dropdown appears then with only the members which have the same couple of letters. This is basically like every email system out there (facebook and gmail have it just like that). And after they chose one, they can select another one in the same textbox, just separated by a comma or something like that. Basically, how do i achieve that in javascript? I'm not even sure what that functionality is called, that's why i had to explain it properly.

What I want to do it multiple the quantity ordered by the kind of shipping selected in my list.
I'm pretty sure that what I've got to do is establishe a quantity ordered variable like this var qty = form["Q" + i].value And then multiply that qty variable by the ShippingCost. But no mater where I stick this var statement it always either stops the script cold or comes up as a black or undefined value.

/* */
var ListCount = 5[code].....

I'm having some difficulties with a menu I'm making. I build up the
menu through DOM. I append childnodes to a tree. 2 types of children
are possible: url (a hyperlink) and sub (a submap).
The tree is thus of a structure
main
|-url1
|-url2
|-submap
|--url21
|--url22
To open up the submaps I set the onclick event to a function I
created:
itemnode.onclick=function() { openMap(itemnode) }
The problem now is that 1 click in a submap results in several times
the openmap function. A click on the url21 node is in fact a click on
a child of submap so the function in the onclick event of this submap
is called. But it is also a click on a child of main, so this onclick
function is also called.
How can you limit that the onclick event handler is only called on the
1 node (ic. submap) where you actually clicked on submap instead of
its urls?
Full code listing below....

Please look at the following HTML snippet:

some text

more text

even more text

The value of document.body.children.length would be 1. The one child
is the <ptag. Now what I want is to be able to get the children of
body including the text elements.
So essentially there would be 3 children of body: 'some text',
,
'even more text'. How can I do this?

The code below works fine in Firefox but doesn't work in IE8. Is that to be expected and if so, why?
if (($(this).children(a).text()) == 'Hide')
If I change it to -- if ($('.accordionShow .head a').text() == 'Hide') it works fine but I lose the ability to use 'this', which I would like to have.
The HTML is:
What I want to do is be able to identify the label as Hide or Show without getting the whole text, i.e. 'Hide the Section'. That way no matter what the label is it will work the same. And I could substring it I suppose by using the text of the
tag but it seems that is unnecessary also.
Is this just another peculiarity of IE, that it doesn't use the .children(a) selector?

I'm playing around with some AJAX-ish stuff and
encountered some problem in the JS side of the universe. Maybe someone
here can suggest an alternative that works.
I have developed a simple ASP.NET application with a web page that
should display a list of users. This list page is designed to start
with an empty table (with columns defined), and, onload, send an
XmlHttp request to a server component (a.k.a. ListServer). This
ListServer is currently simulating a long-running operation. So, it
sleeps for 3 seconds, and then grabs a list of 4 users from an xml
file. It applies an xsl transformation and returns the result.
The xslt is designed to take the xml data and convert it to a
<ListChunkroot element containing a <trfor each user in the XML
data. Each row contains 4 columns (Id, Login, Password, Name). The
javascript in the list page grabs the responseXML from the XmlHttp
object and should, for each <trin it, create a copy of the row
coming from the server and adding it to the list on the client.
I actually got all that to work quite fine. The js snipplet dealing
with copying the row coming from the server and adding it to the table
on the client is: Code:

I have a div containing many children all very different, each one as a different width. I need to get the width of all the children. I mean child1.width() + child2.width() + child3.width() etc... Of course as a new child can be added anytime I can not use the kind of things I put above.
I tried that among other things :
$("div.mydiv").children().width();
But I only get the width ofthe first child.
