View 2 RepliesI have some javascript code for a guage, i want the value for the guage to come from an external file, ie a xls, csv or txt file. Preferably a xls file. The code currently looks like this: demoGauge3.setValue(200) I was thinking of using a test.xls file where cell A1 has the only value in it. I want to read a file and use the number value in that file to drive the setvalue point.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIn my .jsp file, I create a form and it needs to be validated. But it doesn't work when reading the external .js file. I tried to put the jQuery script in my .jsp file directly and it works. So what's the problem?
The following is the sample of my jQuery script.[code]...
I trying to get an html page using the $.get method and assign the result to a variable, using this code:
var html;
$.get('templates/Template.html', function(data) {
html=data;
});
console.log(html);
html variable, in this case, is null...

I got some divs with IDs which I position via css in an external file.So I got something like this on the html-site:
<div id="i1" onclick="move(1)"></div>
In the css-sheet there ist something like this:
#i1 {position:absolute; left:193; top:47; height: 20; width: 20; background-color: #369e1c;}
Everything is positioned as I want it, but I want to read out the position of the div (to position something else), but getElementById somehow doesn't work. It all worked well, when the css was directly in the page, but it won't if it's in an external file.Basically I do something like this:
function move(where){
var ids = "i" + where;
var newtop = document.getElementById(ids).style.left;[code].....
If you give an element an inline property, as in
<div id='testDiv' style='display:block'>blah</div>
then an alert(document.getElementById('testDiv').style.display) will of course give you "block." But, if you give the element a property through an external CSS file, the same alert comes up empty!
This is causing me big problems as I've discovered and is ridiculous. Can javascript read properties from external CSS sheets?
I am currently working on an announcements portlet for a dashboard that my team is creating. What is desired is to be able to have this portlet access a stored text file (file can be edited so content is subject to change) that will have all the information needed for these announcements. The JavaScript will then write it into a html file. I am a novice at html, and javascript;

I'm writing a script and I've encountered a problem.. I have a txt file with many words, each word in a different line. For example: the file words.txt contains:
word1
word2
word3
word4
word5
I need to load the content of the file into a variable in my script. I prefer that all the words will be in the same variable with line breaks, but if you'll figure out a way to put it in an array, it's ok too. I really don't know how to do it, and I tried to google but didn't understand.. By the way, I don't want to change the txt file to js file, I need it to remain txt..
I got an [object error] from IE 7.0.5730.11 when moving the <script
src="..." type="text/javascript" /tag from the <headpart to the
<bodysection of a HTML file.
Is not possibile to include Javascript code via <script src="..."
type="text/javascript" /from the <bodysection, instead from the
<headone? If yes, anyone has any idea of which the problem could be?
If not, how can I programmatically include a javascript external file
inside the <bodypart of a HTML file, for example, using Javascript
to some particular native functions?
I have a external file for example abc.js ,in this abc.js file no functions ,it contains some scripting,i want to call the scripting file though html I use the code

Running htm file locally (double click) gives me security warning (XP
SP 2) but if I then select "allow script to run" everything works fine.
But when I serve page through IIS (localhost) I get a syntax error line
4 char 4. Of course there is no line 4 in the js file.
This HAS to be something simple I am missing but I have tried:
- with and without language attribute in script tag
- relative and absolute paths for the js file
- with and without Mime type for js set in IIS
Only remaining thing I guess it could be is file permissions but
everything has execute on it as far as I can see.
I'm using a java-script in a HTML-page. Part of the script is the line:
var limit = 1136 - 1101;
The value 1136 is a counter and changes permanantly. In VB I can write a
routine which prints the actual value to a fule called COUNTER.TXT.
Can I change my JavaScript in such a way that it reads the value of the file
COUNTER.TXT?
I can read text files with scriptableinputstream.read(). But it is not

I have a project that I need to read some data from an XML file.

However, since JS is a client side script so it can't read from client side, is there any alternate way to do this? I am thinking to create a "Data" class, and many "Data" objects, is this an elegant way to do it?
Is it possible to read text from a file and then place it into a div using javascript. I read something on the Internet that I would need to have a server side language such as php or perl to do that. Is that true and if so why is that.
