Possible To Do Location Targeted Code?
Apr 24, 2009
I am at a loss after searching the web. I have a website at At the top right of my site I have a small piece of javascript which rotates 20 adverts. The problem is a lot of my visitors are from the UK and US and all my ads are American, although I have UK affiliates.
I want my site to display ads based on where the visitor is from. Does anyone know if this is possible using JS?
To make a start I installed some javascript which displays the time and time zone for the visitor in the top left of my site. I don't know if this could help at all.

I built my portfolio with Dreamweaver MX. In the bottom frame, I have thumbnails of images. When you click on a thumbnail, it is supposed to load the full size image in a targeted part of the top frame. It works fine in Explorer and Safari, but not in Firefox.
The address is http://www.justmyname.com/portfolio
If anyone has any suggestions on why it isn't working....

I've been given the task of designing within this incredibly rigid site builder program of a clients (seriously I think it's coding circa 1995). I've got a design, but we've had some browser complications. Like I said this thing is very particular, the only way I can change anything is by adding snippets of code in a custom html form that they have. Working everything around, I've had to position an image absolutely so it doesn't expand the body of the page. This though has conflicted with some hover over dropdown submenus. I've figured out that if I can just change that style to the next z-index level it could work. I can't place any kind of code above this instance, so I wondered if I would be able to do this with javascript using a window.onload call? It's been awhile since I've done anything with javascript, so I'm not entirely sure how to do this, or for that matter if it's even possible.
One other thing, this is called on by a class. I know I can't use getElementByID, but think it might be possible to use getElementByTagName ('ul') to do this.

I'm trying to set up a blog, which uses a slideshow within each post, using the jQuery Cycle plugin.
Is there a way of creating separate slide shows for each, using a single class (.post-slideshow-images) - and also have the next and prev links on each, and a caption? Let's say there are 5 instances of slideshows with the class.post-slideshow-images.I've tried the below, but the next and prev links, and the caption are linked between each slideshow (clicking next on one, for instance, controls every instance on the page, and the caption for every slideshow also updates)
$(document).ready(function(){
$('.post-slideshow-images').cycle({fx: 'scrollLeft',timeout: 0,next: '.next',prev: '.prev',

Ihave 2 simular image changing arrays on a page that are targeted to different images that are layered on top of each other (zBodBox.gif & zPWBox.gif). The images are being replaced with other transparent gifs so that the image below shows the transparent pixels of the overlaying image.The transparent gifs work, the links work, the problem is that I don't know how to make the arrays seperate and work independently so that they replace the image intended. This is for a website I am building for a prouuct I have just received a patent for so it is not on the net at this time. I could email you the entire file including the images if necessary. My email address is:stevenbraid@gmail.comIf someone could please help me work out this bug I could get my product to market. I am sorry the code is so long but as it is not up and running yet this is the best I can do. I have streamlined the code as best as I can without leaving out the essentuals.
Code:

Anyone know how to create this in JS? User clicks on a link, the link opens a new window with new webpage AND the page that had the link then changes to a new webpage as well. So end the end that link takes the user to two new pages. For instance, I am on PageA.html and I click an <a href="">Link</a>. Link take me to a newly targeted page called PageB.html. Then at the same time PageA.html turns into PageC.html.

Danged if I can find the thread, but I swear I saw a $.url() reference in here a day or two ago. It was beingutilized for parsing out the window.location or window.location.search parameters. I made a mental note because that was something I would be needing to do.
Now I can't find it, either because the search isn't finding it or I was dreaming about this function existing.
I rummaged about the API docs and didn't find it there either. Is it something provided by one of the plugins and not a function native to jQuery?

I am trying to make a gui for clients to edit a php page that displays html and javascript.
I want the user to be able to move html elements around and even edit it like add effects like fade in and out etc.
Then after all the changes I want to overwrite the existing php file that does this for that user. how can you make such changes and then save it to a file?
It's an html / javascript editor but using a gui instead of allowing them to directly touch the code. It would be a security risk if I allow such a thing. So I need to program a interface that would make such changes and save them to file.
Like how can you delete and add new javascript code to the file?

I am a novice, almost to an intermediate-level JavaScript guy, so much of this is new to me. I appreciate your patience reading this.
I have a routine that creates some HTML on the fly (updateFilters() function) and after the HTML is created, I attempt to access some fields (elements) on the form itself.
I works fine if I place an alert() statement after the HTML is created, but when I remove, the code errors out.
I have tried the setTimeout() statement, but I cannot grab the element --- undefined or null is returned. It seems that the form is the only element I can get a handle on --- everything else is undefined or null...
Here is the code:
function editQuery() {
var f;
var x;
var myForm = document.forms[0];
// Get the row filters that were used in the last query..
for (f = 1; f < 16; f++) {
var filter = eval("myForm.FilterList_" + f);
if (filter.selectedIndex > 0) {
var methodElement = element("FilterMethod_" + f);
var methodIndex = methodElement.selectedIndex;
var savedFilterMethodValue = methodElement.options[methodIndex].text;
var choicesElement = element("FilterChoices_" + f);
var choicesIndex = choicesElement.selectedIndex;
if (isNaN(choicesIndex)) {
var savedFitlerValues = choicesElement.value;
}
else {
var savedFitlerValues = choicesElement.options[choicesIndex].text;
}
updateFilters(filter); // update the filters
// take the saved methods and values and then update the selections
// Alert here makes the code work..
// alert("Try this");
// Wait for HTML..
setTimeout("completeEdit()", 1000);
function completeEdit() {
// Since the object was updated, get the object again..
var methodElement = element("FilterMethod_" + f);
for (x = 0; x < methodElement.options.length; x++) {
if (methodElement.options[x].text == savedFilterMethodValue) {
methodElement.options[x].selected = true;
break;
}
else {
methodElement.options[x].selected = false;
}
}
// Since the object was updated, get the object again..
var choicesElement = element("FilterChoices_" + f);
for (x = 0; x < choicesElement.options.length; x++) {
if (choicesElement.options[x].text == savedFitlerValues) {
choicesElement.options[x].selected = true;
break;
}
else {
choicesElement.options[x].selected = false;
}
}
// Only display next row if f = 2..
// If only one row was used, no reason display the next row..
if (f == 2) {
displayNextFilter(f - 1); // display it
}
}
clearTimeout(timeOut);
}
}
}
Do I have to pass the object (the form, the elements) to the completeEdit() function in the setTimeout() statement?

I am trying to hide this code:
HTML Code:
using this code
HTML Code:
This works fine when I place this code under the html in the main source, but if I try to add this Jquery code to an external js sheet it doesnt seem to work?
Currently my js sheet is called in the header, when I move this link to the footer of my page the code works again, so Im guessing this has something to do with where the jquery code is placed in relation to the code Im trying to hide?
How I can keep my js in the header but still make the content disappear on click?

I hope whether such a script exists for what am wanting to do. From time to time, I need to send password information or login details and password information to some users. At the moment, am doing it via email with a subject named FYI and the body of the email basically just contain the login and the password or in some case, just the password. What am wanting to know is whether I can put these information into a HTML file which contains an obfuscated Javascript with a button that a user will click that will prompt for his login information and then will display the password. In its simplest form, I guess I am looking for a Javascript that will obfuscate a HTML file that contains the password. I found some website that offers such service as obfuscating a HTML file but am hoping it can be done via a Javascript so it is at least "portable" and I do not have to be online.

I am about to port an app using html, css, and javascript where most of the content is mixed with the presentation and behaviour.
The question I have been asked is: even though this older style is difficult to maintain, will the method proposed my the authors of Simply Javascript perform adequately on a page with hundreds of entries like the one below? Using the newer method, the program would have to iterate through all the elements on the page and assign handlers for click, mouseover, etc. Please advise. Code:

I've got a simple navigation system set up in a framed site:
navigation/top frame and a main body frame. Whenever you click on a
navigation button it passes the new location to this function:
gotoNewPage = function(loc) {
main.location.replace(loc);
// alert(loc);
}
which changes the page loaded in the main frame. This seems to work well
until I put a link in the page in the main frame, say:
<a href="#" onclick="top.gotoNewPage(Ƈ_7.htm')">Click me</a>
In IE the page changes to Ƈ.7.htm'.
In FF (and MZ) the page "flashes" but doesn't change.
If I uncomment the alert the page changes.
If I put the link in the nav frame the page changes in FF.
How can I get FF to behave in this instance?

Here is my relevant code for an arbitrary page (let's call it PAGE_B):
<body onload="window.location.hash='anchor'">
With this code, if the user goes from PAGE_A to PAGE_B, he will jump to
PAGE_B#anchor after PAGE_B has fully loaded. BUT... if he clicks the
back button, instead of returning to PAGE_A (which is what I want), he
will return to PAGE_B (without the anchor).
Is there any way to change this behavior... perhaps to replace the
anchor of page without touching the history stack?

I'm trying to create a "moving" side menu div.
Thus far I have it all setup in terms of the divs:

The setup is :
..then right_sidebar gets made the same height automatically as main_contents. I've color coded them to hopefully make it easier to see whats going on.
The code I'm using is:
As far as I can see its calling the right codes... yet it never seems to move #side_ads.
I'm aware there are plugins that do the same job - but I wanna try and avoid that if possible, as I'm pretty sure this should be simple to do - I must just be missing something.
