Here is the code:
for (var i = 0; i < BS_crm['activityTypes'].length; i++) {
var clickFunc = function(){ activityList.showForm( -1, {blockType:[""+BS_crm['activityTypes'][i]['id'], "0"]} ); };
var type = {
[Code]....
Now, basically what I am doing here is running through one array to create an array of objects, that will be used to create links that will use whatever onClick function I pass it. The problem is that on the second line I need the BS_crm['activityTypes'][i]['id'] to be a value, not a reference. If that line was simply changed to:
var clickFunc = function(){ activityList.showForm( -1, {blockType:["3", "0"]} ); };

I'm trying to pass data I gathered from a prompt into a later function.
1. Should prompts for information be in their own JS file separate from the HTML page? Or is it better form to have the prompts (for info) in the HTML page itself?
2. I have tried placing the prompts to gather info in several places, each time my script seems to stop after the data is gathered and does not perform the calculations which are contained within a function. The input data is gathered from a prompt, do I still need to "return valuea" and "return valueb" in order to use the input data in the calculation function? Initially I did not feel I did, as I am not performing a calculation initially, just receiving input.

I have a lot of similar instances of the following code on my page:
$('#btnEditParty').click(function () {
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "WardAdmin.aspx/GetParty",
[Code]....
I'd like to create a generic function to save repeating a lot of code and then just pass in the relevant values.
I'm fine with that, the only thing I'm not sure about is if/how I can pass in a function name to be called on success/fail.
This post is where I was doing something similar to save repeated code: [URL]
In a similar way is there a way of passing in a function name to be called on success?

I am having a strange problem with a javascript function that does not return the value but returns the code inside the function. My best guess is that I am incorrectly calling the function hasLandedOn()and jquery is interpeting it. Why is this happening? I highlighted the parts in red.-Tom ReeseThe following is returned NOT the variable imageName.
function hasLandedOn(){
var selectorLoc = $("#selector").offset();
var imageName = "";

I have what I think is a strange issue but others may see something I am missing.I am using AJAX functionality to process a php script on a server and then place the output of the script into a div element.Here is the code snippet
Code:
function doWork13(typeCode,colorBlockName,objectCategory,imgID){
httpObject = getHTTPObject();
if (httpObject != null) {[code]....
This code shown here works perfectly BUT....I do not want the alert message to be there. When I remove that line of code the script fails to function. There is no error just nothing happens.The function is to replace one image with another and the variable in question is simply the ID tag of the particular image being modified.As I said it works with the alert but does not with out, could it be a timing issue in that the alert gives enough time for the if statement in the setOutput13 function become TRUE

I need to create a code that takes in a function f and a variable x and gives me f(f(x)). For example, if f(x)=2*x and x=3, then f(f(x))=12.
I've tried to look at this from two angles: creating an extra variable to define the function within the function and reusing f on itself. But I can't use either properly.
How can I get my main function to accept a function as its first parameter [function(2*x, 3)]? Is that even possible? I could specify the function f within the twoTimes function, but the point is for f to be a changeable parameter.
I had come up with, but it definitely doesn't work. How should I approach it?
var twoTimes = function(f,x) {
f = function(x) {};
var r = f(x);
return f(r);
};
twoTimes(2*x, 3)

I found a JS function I'd like to use, which animates a layer so that
it moves across the screen.
The problem is the function, as found, simply names the DIV directly. I
want to be able to use the function in the HTML to pass the ID of the
DIV which gets moved. Sounds fairly straight-forward, right? Well it
doesn't work and I have spent HOURS on this. Yes, I am red-faced. Code:

I have a system that I want to try, which requires me, from an aspx
page, to call a generic function to work perform one task, then i want
to call another function with the results of that task.
something like this:
in my aspx page:
<input type=button onClick="doFirstFunction('secondFunctionName');">
then in my .js file:
var functionToCall = ''
function doFirstFunction(functionName) {
functionToCall = functionName
// do the initial, common task
sResult = xmlHttp.responseText
//now call the second function, passing sResult to it
}
Right now I'm using 'switch' and manually adding possible values for
'functionName' then directing manually, but I'd like to make
"doFirstFunction" self-maintaining, i.e. without having to update it if
I add more 'second' functions later.
I thought I could use
eval('functionToCall('+sResult+')');

I am having trouble passing the correct id to change the innerHTML. I have a jsp that display people and their address information. There could be several people in the list, so it is in a loop. That part all works good. There is a drop down list with countries in them. Based on the country they select, I want to change some of the text. Here is what I have:
<tr>
<td class="datashaded" valign="top"><font size="2"><b>Country:</b></font></td>
<td class="datashaded" valign="top">
[code]...
When I hardcoded the id= value, not matter which group I changed the country on, only the first one was changing, so I knew I needed unique ids for each group. There is more to the table, but this is the good part. When the onChange fires now, Nothing at all happens.

I'm trying to trigger a function when the user clicks on an image. The function will test for whether a variable passed to it is empty or not and branch accordingly. The image has an <a href> behind it that triggers the function OK, but I cant seem to pass a variable to the function. The variable contains a value from a database field, and I think it is probably a syntax thing because if I set the variable to contain a string instead (i.e. b = 'this works') within the <a href> it works OK. So the problem may be with setting the variable to contain the database field value within the <a href> here's the code:
[ICODE]
"<center><a href=""javascript:void(null)"" onClick=""goConfirm(b);"" b = ""<%=RS(8)%>;"" title=""Get map (open new window or tab)"" ><IMG src=""images/bt_compass.gif"" border=""0"" /></center></a>"
[Code]....

I have a function which is currently called twice on the same page. Part of the function is to apply an onkeyup event to a created element. The problem is that when the function is called twice the first created element calls the onkeyup function of the second element!
table_JD.length-1 = 0 for first element
table_JD.length-1 = 1 for second element
updateSearch_TC_JD(1) is somehow called from first element!
newSearchBox.onkeyup = function() {updateSearch_TC_JD(table_JD.length-1)}

I have a questionregarding passing a function within an anchor element href
during dom scripting using javascript. for eg:
the xslt file contains
<a href="javascript:{@test}('{@value}')">
how will i write this in javascript. Basically the xml file has
test = "help" and no value parameter in this particular xml file currently
the basic idea is to pass help('') in href of anchor tag
the help function is already defined.
i have currently written as:
var help = element.getAttribute('test');
var value = element.getAttribute('value');
elementA.href = 'javascript:help + '(' + value + ')'
value should be equal to ' ' where as in my case it is returning null and not sure on the syntax that i am using for href.
