I have a lot of similar instances of the following code on my page:
$('#btnEditParty').click(function () {
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "WardAdmin.aspx/GetParty",
[Code]....
I'd like to create a generic function to save repeating a lot of code and then just pass in the relevant values.
I'm fine with that, the only thing I'm not sure about is if/how I can pass in a function name to be called on success/fail.
This post is where I was doing something similar to save repeated code: [URL]
In a similar way is there a way of passing in a function name to be called on success?

function OpenDocPreview(url, docname) {
alert('message from search base : ' + url + ' ' + docname);

Here is the code:
for (var i = 0; i < BS_crm['activityTypes'].length; i++) {
var clickFunc = function(){ activityList.showForm( -1, {blockType:[""+BS_crm['activityTypes'][i]['id'], "0"]} ); };
var type = {
[Code]....
Now, basically what I am doing here is running through one array to create an array of objects, that will be used to create links that will use whatever onClick function I pass it. The problem is that on the second line I need the BS_crm['activityTypes'][i]['id'] to be a value, not a reference. If that line was simply changed to:
var clickFunc = function(){ activityList.showForm( -1, {blockType:["3", "0"]} ); };

I am attempting to hack a jQuery extension that does an ajax style form submit. The final result is an image uploader that can run inline. The script is fairly simple - it creates an iframe with a new form, and copies over a form element (the file name), and submits the form. Plus error handling and the like.
The problem is that I need to use from within MVC, and so I need more form values, like the ID of the item I am working on. It would be easy to add another configuration setting for an additional form element to copy over, but I really want to have the ability to pass a jQuery selector in and use that to specify the form elements to copy. Is this possible?

Not sure what would be the best way to do this. I need to add a click function for all :submit and :button that are not disabled or have an alt text of no-touch.

I'm attempting to make a simple hover image gallery with a static large image which swaps with a thumb on hover. However, on hover what happens is the new image comes up as the large image and if I then hover over another thumb it replaces that thumb with the original bigpic image source.

The following scenario:
var myobject = new object (settings);
$('#button').click(function () {
//execute a method from myobject (usually called with "this.methodName(),")
});
I don't know how to pass myobject to the anonymous jquery function. But I cannot execute the method without referencing it. How can I get this done?

I have a basic understanding of selecting elements and performing manipulations or effects, but I'm having real trouble grasping the basics of setting up variables, performing maths on variables and biggest of all, how you go about passing information from the HTML into a jquery function.
I have a site where clicking on any photo thumbnail brings up a full-screen lightbox to display the image full-size - I'm using the following to bring in the lightbox:
$(".photo").click(function(){
$("#lightbox").css({"visibility":"visible","z-index":"2"});
$("#lightbox").stop(true, false).animate({opacity:1},800);
});
This works just fine, I also have no problem re-assigning the SRC of a blank image within the lightbox to make sure the correct image renders, my problem is I just don't know how to generate or pass information into this function to begin with to act as a reference point so the code knows what image it should be displaying based on which thumbnail was clicked.
I don't need anything particularly clever, even if each thumbnail simply had a numerical figure associated with it (eg "4") which gave the function something to work with once it was fired - that would be enough.
I know how to do all this in regular JavaScript but I have to admit I'm finding the documentation for jquery really hard work, I'm having real problems grasping the fact that the functions aren't being triggered directly by the HTML.
Another solution would be to get the src of the image that was clicked on, split the string and pull out just the filename (ie 5.jpg) and then prepend a path to it for the final full size image ( largeimage/ + 5.jpg).
I know there are probably pre-made scripts for this kind of thing but I'd like to try and avoid them if possible.

I can't seem to get a variable declared from within a post callback, so that I could manipulate my script accordingly. I have delete.php, that deletes an id from a mysql db. If it fails, I want the script to stop and display the error. The .php script echos an "ok" if everything went fine, if not - it echos the error.var abort_error; // set the error variable
$.get("delete.php", { delete: $(this).parent().parent().parent().attr('id') },

Two objects on an html page. An event on object 1 effects object 2
$(".video_rg").mouseover(function(event){
var myTriggerId = event.target.id;
var myTargetId = 'video_' + myTriggerId;
document.getElementById(myTargetId).src = 'images/test_object_2.gif'; // this works
// $('#myTargetId').src = 'images/test_object_2.gif'; // this does not
});
My assumption (we know about those) is that I am not passing the data to the $() function correctly, that it is reading '#myTargetId' as a string, and not a variable. I just really want the JQuery code that would do what the document.getElementById code is doing.

my first attempt to post seems to either have been rejected or simply gone into the cyber void.
I currently have a link on a webpage as follows:
<a href="#" id="loadData"><img src="images/bookcase.png" alt="" width="114" height="167" border="0"></a>
which is picked up by
$("#loadData").click(function()
which then executes:
.load("subgenre.php" , function() etc
What I want to be able to do, however, is pass a parameter to the php script, along the lines of:
.load("subgenre.php?param=" + passedParam , function() etc

I want to do something like below with jQuery
<a id="nextId" href="javascript:doSomething('[URL]')>NextPage</a>
<script>
function doSomething(link){
//process the response
}
</script>
Right now my code block with jQuery looks like this :
<a id="nextId" href="javascript:doSomething('[URL]')>NextPage</a>
<script>
function doSomething(link){
$("#nextId").click(function() { $('div.galleryDiv').html("loading....").load(link); })
}
</script>
The problem with the above code is that I have to click twice to invoke the link - obviously, one for Javascript and the other jQuery 'click' function. I am new to jQuery, - invoking jQuery 'click', from HTML code, by passing dynamically generated 'link' as param.
