Netscape 7.0x Not Updating Variable Values

Jul 20, 2005

I am having a problem with Netscape 7.01 & 7.02 not updating a
variable value in javascript. I have stepped though my code with a
debugger, and the values and code all look correct. This problem is
not happening in Netscape 7.1, but I really need it work at 7.0x
because many users use these browsers, and it would be a annoyance to
force them to update their browsers.

Is there a way in javascript to force the browser to update the
dynamic variables? I'm pretty sure this is a browser bug, but would
like to find a way around it with my own code.

Updating The Variable Value?

Oct 23, 2010

I have a slideshow that also has links to allow the user to pick which slide they want to go to. That works okay for the most part, but once the user has selected a slide the slideshow continues to run, which I want to happen, but it continues to the next slide from when the loop function ran initially instead of the next slide in the show from the current slide. I tried recalling the function from the link function, but that really didn't do anything. I realize...at least I think that I realize that the function needs to be rerun from the new value of the count variable, but everything that I've tried to make it do that has been a colossal fail.Again I'm a novice here and this has to be written in plain javascript, otherwise I'd have gotten this done via jquery in probably 3 lines of code.

Here's what my code is looking like right now:

<script type="text/javascript">
<!--
//preload images

Updating MySQL DB From HTML Table Values?

Jul 13, 2011

I'm dynamically outputting the contents of a MySQL table using Python, to a HTML table, which users view (obviously) through a web browser. It looks great, but the problem is that I'd like users to be able to update these values. For example, I have the current value of certain fields in text boxes. I'd like users to be able to change those values, then hit a submit button or similar (ideally on-the-fly) to update the dB. I imagine javascript will need to pass values to a Python script, but I don't know what the best way to go about this is.

# Python code embedded in a .psp file
cursor = db.cursor()
cursor.execute("SELECT from_name, from_address, project, orb_proj, app, tier, environment,

Getting Variable Values To Display?

Mar 6, 2011

I am fairly new to coding HTML with Javascript. I am hitting my head onto the table because i cannot figure out how to pull the variable value out in a document.write statement. Basically, I am calling a function to give me a random number between 1-4. I use that randomNumber to attach to different .jpg, descriptions, and URL's. So far, i have only got the image to display, but unable to get the link and description to display. Basically, i am trying to diplsay random ads and links like the one at the top of this page.

p.s. I know I am getting the randomNumber out of my function becasue I can call a simple document.write(randomNumber) and it works. Substitute adDesc and adURL in place of randomNumber and I also get the description and link respectively.

How To Detect Min / Max Variable Values

Oct 10, 2011

How to detect the smallest values the user inputs but does not explain how to detect already declared variables that have values in them and how to detect which of these declared variables has the smallest number.

For example:
double aA = 3.7;
double aB = 5.8;
double aC = 1.9;
double aD = 7.2;
double aMin;
// this is the variable I want the program to detect and stick
// the smallest variable into.

I want the code to detect the variable containing the smallest number and it has to be able to detect negative numbers as well.

Wrong Values Passed To Function - Invalid Character Error - Arises When Pass The "whereVARquoted" Variable Intofunction

Feb 19, 2009

I am writing a Javascript to sort and write out some stuff. PHP is not an option so I need to get this script working.

The problem arises when I want to make a link to the next page. (i.e. Like the link in google for the next 10 results)

I have <a href=# onclick=FUNCTION(VALUES)> written dynamically by the script.

It is written onto the document correctly, but the problem is, when the link is clicked, some seemingly random values are passed to the function.

I also have an invalid character error that arises when I pass the "whereVARquoted" variable into my function (code 2) which disappears when the variable is removed (code 1).

My code is below:

Code 1:

<script>

Code 2:

Netscape 4.x And CSI

Aug 25, 2004

I am creating a site that will use a Client-Side Include (CSI) to dynamically generate an ad banner to be placed on the right hand side of the page. It loads great in IE5 and above and Netscape 7 and even loads fine in Netscape 4.7. The problem is when the user resizes the window, the ad banner that was generated is then placed at the bottom of the page. I even look at the HTML of that particular page and the CSI is thrown into the bottom portion of the site. I am perplexed as to how it just throws it down AND knows where in the HTML code to insert itself.

If anyone has any ideas on how to stop this snippet of code placing itself anywhere in the site, I would appreciate any help. Again, it LOADs fine but when the user decides to re-size the window, it just moves it down to the bottom of the site.

Netscape With Javascript

Jul 20, 2005

I created a menu bar for my page using Sothink DHTML Menu 4.1 which created javascript file. I also add a small slide show on the page using javascript and the javascript is embedded in this page's HTML.

Everything works perfectly with IE. However, Netscape (4, 6, 7) can't see the menu bar created in DHTML when the slideshow javascript is present.

If I just have the menu bar or slideshow alone on the page, Netscape can see it, but it seems that Netscape always ignores the DHTML script when both javascripts are present. Not sure what is going.

I have tried to put the slideshow javascript in the .js file that has the DHTML code for menu bar, but it didn't work either.

Javascript And Netscape 4.7

Jul 20, 2005

I have a problem with NS 4.7 (I know, it is old, but I have no
choice...) :

So, I have a page with a link to open a new window:

var strHtml = '<html><head><title>title_of_window</title>' +
'<LINK rel=stylesheet href=theme.css>'+
'<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript" SRC="my_script.js"></SCRIPT>' +
'</HEAD><BODY onLoad="fonc_onLoad();" class=Body topmargin=0
leftmargin=0 MARGINWIDTH=0 MARGINHEIGHT=0>' +
'blablabla' +
'</body></html>'

var win = window.open('', 'window_name', 'parameters');
win.document.write(strHtml);
win.document.close();
win.focus();

My problem concerns the tag "onLoad " of the "BODY" tag: with IE, the
"fonc_onLoad()" starts normally (this function is in "my_script.js"),
but with NS 4.7 (ou 4.51), the <SCRIPT> tag is ignored (you can view the
window's source code), so the "fonc_onLoad()" function cannot not start.
