Nested Unordered List Show/hide Menu That Remembers Location?
Jan 7, 2009
I am having a few issues with a client who requires me to code their menu in JavaScript.
Here is the HTML:
Code:
<ul id="navigation">
<li class="firstElement"><a href="#">User</a>
<ul>
<li><a href="#">Manage my profile</a></li>
[Code]....
Basically i need the menu to be collapsed to the first level initially. So only the User, Admin and Company User links are visible.
When these 1st level menu items are clicked the 2nd level sub menus need to be displayed when navigated to the 1st level index page and so on for the third level menus.
I need to be able to remember the location as well so the menu stays open on the correct page.
The annoying thing is that if i was allowed to do this in Coldfusion this would only take me a little while but i don't know much JavaScript therefore am a bit stuck. I am not allowed to use libraries either such as JQuery, MooTools
Another challenge is to style the 'active' link locations.
When you are at the first level the class of the anchor needs to be selected_bg.
When in a sub of said first level the class of that selected anchor needs to be selected_bg and the first level needs to change to selected.
For the third level both the above stays the same but then the third level takes the class of selectorThird when active.

I am really stumped on how to use jquery to code this. I looked at a lot of different slider plugins for jquery and I easySlider1.7 uses lists for the sliding effect so that is what I want to use. But I am having problems with creating the nested list slider. It's really hard to explain what I want so I created this.
Here is my list that I want to use for my navigation idea.

I want to modify the appearance of an unordered list by assigning a value to each list item and then setting the custom properties for each list item. At first I was thinking of assigning a number to each list item and then controlling it's properties via that number.But now I'm wondering if jQuery can do a search for the list items content.

I have a set of nested ULs that is generated for me. I want to use it to create a drop-down navigation menu, however I don't want to use the values in the second level of ULs in the navigation. It looks something like this:
<ul class="topMenu">
<li>home</li>
<li>community
[code]....
Level one is visible as sort of tabs, and then mousing over should reveal a list of the next level of links.I would like to use the above list and mouse over "community" and see a list of links
award type 1
award type 2
discussion 1
[code]....
Or another option would be to combine levels 2 and 3 so I would see
awards
award type 1
award type 2
discussions
discussion1
and then mousing over discussion 1 would reveal the more info link.

I wanted to create a small DHTML code that created a unordered list of input forms dependent on the number selected from the select dropdown menu. Problem is that it doesn't seem to want to generate the list. I think the variables are within the scope of the function too, and I didn't get an errors from the javascript console when using firebug. The script itself runs, I tested it when I used the old standby alert(); to see if the script was active. Here's the code:

What I have is a dynamically created group of unordered lists. My jQuery code allows the user to "add" forms that essentially create a new unordered list per form. The first list item is displayed in a heading 2 tag strictly for the style formatting the h2 tag gives.
The user enters data in the forms which are then passed via url.data method to my action page. This is where my code loops(nested loop) through the lists, inserts the appropriate items in either the heading 2 tag or the rest of the list item tags. Then this(these) lists are saved in a temporary file and then called and displayed back by way of an include. The problem is I want these lists to be sorted alphabetically. I have a function that I am close to getting it working, but the problem I think is the fact that I have the special "first" list item within a heading tag.
Here is the function:
var items = [];
$('li').each(function() {
items.push($(this).text());

i have a menu and i would like to change the color of the Categories which have subcategories only. In my example the basic categories are: News , Announcements , Contact and Career. Only Announcements and Career categories have subcategories. So i would like those two to turn green. The fact is that the list items include a href ,so i don't know how to access those "a href" combined with "this".
<ul id="my_menu">
<li id="id0"><a href="#" style="text-decoration:none">News</a></li>
<li id="id1"><a href="#" style="text-decoration:none">Announcements</a>

I'm trying to combine a chained drop down list with the ability for the last selection to show/hide a div. I've researched and found ways to do both individually, but I'm hitting the wall when it comes to combining the javascript.
This is how I'd like it to work:
-- User selects from DropDown List 1.
-- DropDown List 2 options appear based on the selection in 1.
-- User selects from DropDown List 2,
-- Appropriate div is shown.
Here's the Javascript I'm using to show/hide a div:
function showDiv(divID)
{
var div = document.getElementById(divID);
div.style.display = ""; //display div
}
[Code]....

I got a table.Each row has a list of statuses.If status == yes, then several elements will be shown in the rowif status != yes, then hide those elements.Im not sure if I have made a good solution, but it seem to work ok (opera9.6, ff2, ie7)The status selector passes on a unique rowid, and itself. This way the js function can get the row, and the status of the selection. Then toggle various elements in that row.Only annoying thing is the way row elements are named and found. It kinda have to rely on some hard coding, but its ok I guess.Im not sure if its possibel to just call toggle( this ), and that way get to the elements in the row.
Code:

I am currently in a Javascript class and it is completely confusing me. I have a website that I am trying to make the tabs at the top all work. I already did the setTab function but I am not even sure if that is right. I have found lots of other websites that have good advice but they want me to do things way different than the book. Basically they are leaning me away from Javascript. The whole point of the class. I am including the original files as well as what I have so far. The page-1 is most of assignment and the Homework Description is the part that was cut off.

The amount of information I have in the footer for most of my pages has, over time, grown enough that the footer now takes up too much space vertically. Rather than completely removing the information, I would like to strip down each section of it into a single, descriptive word, and have more info about each section shown when you click on the specific word.
Essentially, it would be a mini-menu with extended information available for each menu item. I have seen show/hide javascripts that do similar things, but nothing precisely along the lines of what I am looking for, and I haven't been able to tweak any of the existing ones as I am pretty clueless about javascript beyond very basic modifications.
The main problem for me has been how to accomplish the layout I'd like for the footer:
Section1 ~ Section 2 ~ Section 3 ~ Section 4
Extended Text for Section #
The show/hide scripts in menu form that I have seen all show the extended text under each menu item, rather than having a designated area for the it regardless of which menu item was selected. But perhaps there's something out there that is more along the lines of what I need?

$('#report_rep_type').change(function(){

I've recently seen the following web app and I'm curious as to how they've been able to put items within the 'To' textbox. If you type a random name in the 'To' box and press enter it adds that as an item and then allows you to add more or even remove what's already there.
How have they done this and is there a name for this?

I am working on my portfolio site and I've come to a bit of a wall. I have a main navigation which, when clicked animates a div containing my content to be visible. I have this working fine but now I want to have external content loaded into this containing div when different navigation items are clicked, which I also have working, but I cannot get these to work together. First off, if the div is not shown I want the appropriate content to be loaded then the div to animate, and if the div is showing, I want it to hide, swap the content then animate. I am sure its just a case of structuring my code properly but I just cant seem to get it right.
Show the div
$(document).ready //content animate show (
function() {
$('.navigation a').click (
function() {
$('.content').stop().animate ({
marginTop : "0px" },{
easing : "easeOutQuint",
duration : 2000
})});})
Hide the div
$(document).ready //content animate hide (
function() {
$('#hide').click (
function() {
$('.content').stop().animate({
marginTop : "200px" },{
easing : "easeInQuint",
duration : 1500
})});})
And finally swap the content:
$(document).ready(function() {
// Check for hash value in URL
var hash = window.location.hash.substr(1);
var href = $('.navigation a').each(function(){
var href = $(this).attr('href');
if(hash==href.substr(0,href.length-4)){
var toLoad = hash+'.php .content';
$('.content').load(toLoad)
}});
$('.navigation a').click(function() {
var toLoad = $(this).attr('href')+' .content';
$('.content').fadeOut('fast',loadContent);
window.location.hash = $(this).attr('href').substr(0,$(this).attr('href').length-4);
function loadContent() {
$('.content').load(toLoad,'',showNewContent())
} function showNewContent() {
$('.content').fadeIn('fast');
} return false;
});
});

This is my first post here. I'm not well versed in JavaScript, so I'm not sure how to do all the following things: (1) set up a horizontal menu with (2) + and - images as bullet points, such that clicking on the bullet points (3) changes + to - and vice versa while (4) a single-level drop down menu makes text disappear and appear.
It should look like this:

I have a list item, where only some of the items are linking to a quote from the client. The quotes are in another list, where each list item has an id corresponding to the client link. I want to show the client quote when you roll over the client anchor link. Currently when I mouseover it's showing nothing.
Here's my HTML
<!--client list-->
<ul id="clientList">
<li>no quote Client /</li>
<li><a href="#client1">Client 1</a> /</li>
<li>no quote Client /</li>
<li><a href="#client2">Client 2</a> /</li>
</ul>
<!--client testimonials--> .....
At the moment, when I mouseover one of the anchored client links, the content disappears, so it's not showing the correct client quote <li>.
$(document).ready(function() {
// see if the requested page url contains an anchor '#'
var hash = window.location.hash.substring(1);
// if no anchor, show the default blockqoute
if(!hash){
var id = 'default';
}else{
var id = hash;
} .....
