Loading Page Completely Before Image Slider Execute
Sep 1, 2010
Is there something in javascript to make sure that the page is completely loaded and the I execute a function in javascript. Because I have a web page that i have an image slider, so if I open this page in same page before (window.location="source") so the page is loading very fast, but if I use window.open, the page will open in a new window but very slow and the slide show begin but I see that the page is still loading the images, so as result no images is shown. I need to execute the function for the images slider after the page had completely loaded.

In one of my web page I want to show an image preloader. ie When I clicked on the small thumbnail in my web page then the main large image will load. My code looks something like this
$("#images li").click(function(){
var image=this.href;
$("#mainImage").attr('src',image);
});
I want to show the Loading sign until the main image loads completely.

In Chrome, the login page on my schools educational online platform [URL] doesn't remember the login info. So i made a bookmark with this javascript injection, that fills in the info, and focusses on the 'aanmelden' button (='login' in dutch), so that i only have to press enter to continue. Here's the javascript injection:
Code:
javascript: document.getElementById('username').value='23889493984';document.getElementById('password').value='4 42384985';return false;document.getElementById('login').focus();
This works fine but i'd like to make it happen faster. I wish i could let the script be activated instantly when the page loads, so i only have to press enter, or if possible, let the script click the login button itself.

I paid a student from the local university to do a basic Wordpress template install [url] for me but the jQuery slider on the front page seems to be hung and never finishes loading. Naturally I can no longer get a hold of the kid and the developer of the template requires a subscription fee for installation support.
It seems like an easy fix but I'm no code sleuth; if I knew what was wrong I'd be comfortable editing the appropriate file(s). Is there an easy way to bring this up in Firebug or something and determine what the problem is?

I have a working version of a jQuery image slider that can be seen here. I am trying to implement this into a new website and have copied the code exactly but for some reason the images are not rotating or switching when the thumbnails are clicked. The new slider can be see here - I have it in a test page so that there is no possibility of any other scripts conflicting.

I have a site built in CI and I have integrated a js/jq image slider into the index page. I linked all the files to the correct places but for some reason the js isnt working? Some of the fonts in the slider are controlled by js files, and they are displaying correctly, so i know the files are linked ok, but for some reason its not grabbing the code to control the slider. I am not sure if its something to do with the file structure used in ci? Is there something I need to be adding in any config files to make js work in ci? I also tried nivo slider and had similar results. and ive had no luck at all finding a slider built for use in ci....

How to reproduce this effect in something like JQuery? Specifically I'm looking at the hover effects at the top of the page: [URL]. It looks like a custom JS file from their end, but I'd like to find something a little more mainstream that looks and acts very similarly, especially with the easing in and out of images.

I have created a party-events website. Which displays a lot of dates of events. As you might understand this page takes some time to load. Therefor I want some of loading image to be displayed while the page is loading. Anybody has an idea how to pull this of? I don't know how.
In detail: People come to my website. They click on "events" and a loading.gif pops up and and makes the background darker. After the page has completely loaded the loading image disappears and the website shows.

How do you know that a web page is fully/completely loaded in a browser. Is there any content length in a header or what else will let you know.

I've been having a problem that I noticed started yesterday with my site [URL]. At first, I thought it was a Project Wonderful ad problem as that was the first thing I noticed disappearing once the page was fully loaded. Then as I took a look around my site, I began to see it was everything that was javascript was gone at full page load. I did the Google search for every syntax I could think of but have come up empty so I decided to come here to see if someone has encountered this problem and has a solution to offer.
When you first go to the site, all javascript loads, PW ads, amazon widgets, footer copyright date, etc. However, when the page is nearly loaded completely, all things Javascript disappear from the page. I've been trying to see what process point they disappear at but the process loading at the bottom moves by pretty fast. I see a query-yahooapis right before the javascript objects go bye-bye, but can't verify 100% if something may happen right after it. Google search for query-yahooapis doesn't yield anything more than what query-yahooapis is.
I started disabling widgets one at a time, working backwards to see if perhaps one of them was causing the javascript hiding or failure, but even with all widgets disabled, the javascript that remains on the page, disappears when page is fully loaded. I was even considering having javascript load from the footer, but due to the design of wordpress sites, I have to call javascript where needed <script> ... </script> for Project Wonderful ads, widgets, etc. Has anyone encountered javascripts disappearing when page is fully loaded or is there a tool that I am not finding in my Google searches that will allow me to load my web page one process at a time to see which one may be conflicting with javascript when it loads?

I'm not sure if this is a Javascript or a CSS issue, but I'm running into trouble with the Nivo Slider, which uses the jQuery library: [URL]
This is the page I'm having trouble with: [URL]
If you click the right arrow, after about three clicks, it gets stuck and won't scroll to the right anymore. I widened the controlnav div but it doesn't do anything. what may be making it malfunction?

I am new to using jquery and had a question about the slider that I use on my portfolio [URL]. The slider works perfectly but the one issue I have is that whilst it is loading you can see all the images that are used in it tiled vertically, overlapping the text and the rest of the site. It basically looks very ugly whilst loading so I was wondering if there is a way to hide the images whilst it loads, or if there is another alternative?

I have this loading.gif image that is 750px, when it should be 32px. The reason it's huge now is because my original solution was displaying two images: one 750px version of the loading.gif image and one 32px version (in the center of the 750px) of the same image. Now I'm at least down to one image, even if it's the wrong version.Click any of the thumbnail images here, and then again on the thumbnail at the top of that popup product gallery to see what I mean: need that huge loading.gif to be 32px like it should be, and then expand to 750px once the image is loaded. I've tried a bunch of solutions, but nothing has solved the problem.This is the code I have at the moment, although I'm working on the issue now so it may change.
$('#inline .thumbGrid img').click(function(){
var strLargeImg = document.getElementById('OBOEsac');
$('.galleryPopup').attr('src','/site/scripts/colorbox/images/loading.gif');
[code]....

Can I intercept the loading of an image BEFORE it loads? We're looking at using an img tag for inserting stats on our server. Here's what I'm considering.
1) Collect certain information server side, write an img to the document like so (note the URL vars): <img id="statsImg" src="stats.cfm?somevar=someval" width="1" height="1" />
2) Using JS, intercept the load of this image BEFORE it takes place, and add things to the URL vars. This way, if JS is not present, you get the default stuff, but if JS is present, you get extra stuff.

I have a site that is very jQuery and image heavy. The main sections of the site link to sections that are built with several Tabs, and as it loads, you briefly see all the content load and then it is hidden by the Tabs code.
The plan is to have a full window DIV that sits above all the content with a loading icon that plays until the entire page loads, and then it fades down.
After some hair pulling and research I have code in place that does exactly as I ask, however it does not seem to work in IE6+7. It works in all other browsers.
The current code is:
CSS for the loading DIV is:

I have a lot of javascript functions that request information from an iframe hidden on the page. I see other sites do this, but their browser does not do the loading action (like the processing circle in Firefox). When I do it on my site, each browser shows the loading icon, as if a page was loading. Is it possible to not have this?
http://bit.ly/cv1YqN
That is a sample link. Go down right side of page where you see three buttons: Trailers Featurettes Clips.Those return iframe information to work.

I have created a page "photography.html". When opened a bunch of thumbnails are visible. When a thumbnail is clicked, various things happen: A window with a slideshow slides in and a bigger version of the clicked image is displayed in the slideshow. Now I would like to accomplish the following: When a certain link on another page is clicked, I want to open the page photography.html and open my slideshow as if a thumb would have been clicked there. Is this somehow possible? PS: I have to admit that I am quite a newbie with both javascript and jQuery and maybe thats way over my horizon. Still I am eager to learn.

First off; i was in two minds if this belonged in the .php forum or the javascript forum; i apologize if i chose the wrong one.
I have this .php code:
<?php
$query = "SELECT mail_id FROM ".TBL_MAIL." WHERE UserTo = '$session->username' and status = 'unread'";
$numUnreadMail = $database->query($query) or die(mysql_error());
[Code]....
I wondered how or if it is even possible to use javascript to execute the first .php code so that the user would know if he/she had a new message without refreshing the page?

FF, Safari, Opera all execute this javascript code to refresh the page properly, but in IE version 8.0.6001.18904 the page doesn't seem to refresh on click of orange_refresh button. I have checked out a different version of IE8, don't recall exact version, but it did seem to work fine in that one, whatever version it was probably the latest now that I think of it. Check out code below any sug.'s could be helpful, though its probably a bug..
<a href="javascript:document.location.reload();"
onmouseover="window.status='Refresh'; return true"
onmouseout="window.status='Page Refreshed'"><img src="image/orange_refresh.png"
width="30" height="30" border="0" /></a>

I have long html/CSS (no CMS or php, etc.) web pages. Some people run away when they see too much content on a page. So I hide the large lower section of the pages and have the user click anchor text to execute simple JS code to change the display from 'none' to 'block' or back to re-hide.
Code:
(BTW my research indicates that search engines do not know the difference between display='none' and normal content, or I would not be hiding content in the first place.)
Within this hidden content, I have anchor text to provide name handles
Code:
So users can click a link and go directly to that section. Within that link I include
Code:
So that works fine within a particular page. But when I want to link to an anchor on another page which is within this hidden content, the browser cannot display the anchor text because it is still hidden.
Is there a way to execute the JS code to change the DOM, changing the display to 'block' on the content of the new page?
I do not see how, because the new page isn't loaded yet, there is no DOM within the browser yet, so how can it be manipulated?
Of course if I was using php I could generate the code with the property set as desired. But for straight up html/CSS/JS pages is this possible?
I get the feeling I am missing something simple here, either a simple solution or the simple fact that this is just an inherent limitation of html.

I have been trying to work my way around this issue for some time now. I am trying to stop a marquee from scrolling as soon as the page start to load not after. I have been using this to pause the marquee with JavaScript but the command does not execute but after the page loads; after all the html loads.
This is the JavaScript:
Code:
<script language="JavaScript">
window.onload=function(){
myMarquee.stop();
}
[Code].....
With this code the marquee does stop but after the page loads completely so as the page loads the marquee start to scroll and then stops as soon as the page finishes loading but with the first image of the marquee have way out. I need to be able to load the marquee 100% stopped as the page loads so then I can use the buttons I placed to control the marquee.
My question is:
Is there ANY way to completely stop the marquee from scrolling as soon as the page loads??
how to scroll the marquee by click; meaning by every click of the mouse the marquee moves either left or right, would be even better. p.s: Noted that this code does NOT work in FF for some reason. The stop does not work and the buttons don't respond. why in FF they don't work but in GC and IE they do?
