I've been looking through many AJAX tutorials but I just keep getting lost, they are all written by giving the final source code, and don't really help me.
What I want to do is VERY elementary, and I was wondering if the kind community of sitepoint would be willing to help me out a bit.
I have a dropdown box with any number of selections (lets say 3 to keep it simple) and depending on which one of those selections is made, an image loads beneath the dropdown box.
Which disables form element 'p_complete' is the third option is selected from this drop down. What I need to do is disable that element if the first, second or third option is selected.
Meaning something like:
onchange="p_complete.disabled=!(this.selectedIndex==0 or this.selectedIndex==1 or this.selectedIndex==2)"
...but of course, obviously this doesn't work or I wouldn't be posting here.
jquery provides ajaxStart() and ajaxStop() events. Those two events do not seem to be triggered if the ajax requests are made by Microsoft Ajax tool Kit (from ASP.Net code). Is there any way to bridge those two event models? If not currently possible, is there any future initiative or plan out there to make this happen?
I have a element when click, it will trigger some other elements to be selected. and those elements will trigger elements in next level.
It is a three levels hierarchy so to speak. but each element will send an ajax request when selected. Those requests will become out of control especially when I repeatedly click the root element.
Can I queue those XHR request in a queue and send them one by one? or maybe add a delay before send so that they can collect their information into one batch request and send one request after that.
Situation:I have a very long page divided into many sections vertical-wise marked by bookmarks, say pageX.html#s1 to s10. I need to show the section inside an iframe (iFrame1) on the mainpage (mainpage.html). I am thinking of having 4 buttons, sitting on the mainpage, to help navigate between these sections on pageX, namely NEXT, PREVIOUS, TOP, END.condition of the frame, fixed width/height, no scroll, no border.Very new to javascript but need this code to make a page work for BIZ.

the system is when visitor click TIKI regular, drop down ajax list will appear and visitor can chose province, city and price will automaticly appear after chose city.the problem is the price value will still there after visitor move chose other option, like TIKI ons.how i can clear the chosen value if visitor move chose other option?
I have this PHP code which calls several dropdown menus. These menus are nearly identical except each menu queries a sql database with the paramters set by all the previous (Make, Model, Year, Size) down the line. This code works in Chrome and FF, but in IE the default drop down (Make) is there, and the first dropdown (Model) gets called- but the subsequent dropdowns (Year and Size) do not.
I read somewhere that Microsoft acknowledged some error in how Ajax responds to select menus but has no intention of rectifying it or providing a workaround?

I've tested these in the following browsers: Mac: Safari 3.2.1, Firefox 3.0.5 Windows: Firefox 2, Firefox 3.0.5, IE6, IE 7
These boxes work fine for me in all the browsers listed above, yet a friend using Windows can't get the drop downs working on either Firefox 3 or on IE 6.
I have a product select page that is really slow to use because 6 dropdowns must be populated and the page reloads after selecting each box, to get the options for the next box.
I want to speed it up as follows:
1) User selects one of 50 products from a dropdown list.
2) Page reloads, and all the possible options for the remaining 5 dropdown boxes are now populated (ie. list options all stored client side)
3) User can freely input the remaining 5 dropdowns without the page reloading.
The second menu is populating correctly from the first menu. The third menu doesn't work because it is not pulling the cat1 & cat2 values. I suspect it is the "checkNew" function, which I tried (with limited Javascript knowledge) to copy and alter from the "checkSelected" function.
I've been searching for about 3 days on this topic. I'm trying to get a template field inside of an ASP.Net detailsview control inside of an ajax updatepanel to work with the jquery datepicker. Very frustrating! I'm using VB with VS 2010. I can get the datepicker to work fine with a simple text box inside of an update panel but when I put it inside of a detailsview control it stops working.
Unable to scroll down an ajax dropdown box in IE. as doing so causes the dropdown box to hide.
I have been told that I need to have a different DOCTYPE but using a 'scrict' doctype causes the menu to scroll downwards with each item on its own line and not across the top of the page.

Can anyone suggest how I can get this to work on most if not all browsers.
oh, i have previously been told that I should use Jquery for this and the other functions on the page but I tried this at the first stages of setting the page up and it failed to work correctly.
I have a page which has a dropdown box.On selection a value is sent to a php script (Ajax), based on the value a html table is created and sent back to the responseText.The table is outputted to the html page, I want the table to have sortable columns, so I have used jquery datatables for this, but it is not working.I have cut and pasted the exact table into the html and ran the page, and then sorting works.

I need to create three dropdown boxes (box 1:colour, box 2: price, box 3:brand) and when the user presses "GO" they are returned with the correct information, pulled from corresponding fields in my MYSQL database.
For example, colour: silver, price £100-£200, brand:samsung...should return 5 items on the page. I do not need the dropdown boxes to populate depending on ther previous selection - they are static, so to speak. If possible, I would like the information to be retuned to my page without the URL changing, which leads me to think I will need to be ausing ajax....?
I am using Roshan's Ajax dropdown code for my two ajax dropdown menus. All is working fine, but when I want to use $_POST in the submitted form with FireFox, its not working...??? Its working fine in IE.
I'm trying to populate a triple dropdown menu based on Roshans code The first dropdown populates the second one fine but when I clidk on the second it populates itself instead of the one below! I thought at first it was a simple problem with the element ID its not and I can't figure it out.

I just needed a simple dropdown. So what better solution than jquery right? Well, when I finished it, I tested it out and it works until you try to click a link in the dropdown. It then disappears. Not sure if theres something overlaying throwing it off but I didn't see anything in firebug.

I have code for autosuggestion while typing in a text box written in Javascript and PHP. When I start typing a number I get a list of matching numbers and I'm able to select one of them with the mouse click. Now I have an other text box which should display a list of numbers based on the selection from the first textbox.
On selecting abc(a) in first dropdown the 'a' must get selected in second dropdown,on selecting cde(b) second dropdown must have 'b' and so on,also the second dropdown value should be disabled(grayed out) for user.Need the code in javascript.
I have 4 strands of hair left... I have been fighting with this one for almost a week now. I'm trying to pass the value of this dropdown to a function and enable another dropdown(and in the future create the populated dropdown based on this choice). If the original 'Select...' option is chosen it will then hide that second dropdown. In the following code the function actually resides in a js file which has been imported and is working properly. I have tried this as text and as value and both seem to be passing a null value regardless of the option selected.
