I am using jquery for the dropdown and i want to be able to display background-color / image when i hover over my list item and so it stay active when the submenu shows and goes off when the mouse moves off it
I am not sure if this will require changes to my JS and Html. I have put the page on jsfiddle with that you can see the live code and make changes etc. code....
I think this is just a dumb question, I'm missing some basic logic here about jquery "grammar".
I'm trying to do an image swap on hover that checks to be sure the thumbnail is not the active thumbnail. So mouseover, it swaps. Mouseout, swaps back, unless the thumb has been clicked.

I'm trying to fade in a <li> background when you hover over it. The background is a gradient and not an image. Right now when you hover over it, the background shows up but it's too fast. I'd like to have a gradual fade in and out on hover.

I have a few table cells that have the following class:

background color changed
}
And I have a cell that has an onclick event that calls a function. The function gets all the cells and does this to them:
cell.style.backgroundColor = 'transparent'; // or whatever else
And then the background color of a clicked cell is changed to indicate that it has been selected. The problem is: when I change a backgroundColor of the cells, their :hover states no longer work: if I try to hover the mouse over them - nothing happens.
When I hover back and forth over a link in one area of a page, the background-image of a div in another part of the page needs to change back and forth. I have been trying all sorts of things in jquery with no results!

The link's id is "about-lifebook" and the div in question has a class of "spacer-bg-off". This ain't working at all. I just read this off of the jquery website: "The .hover() method binds handlers for both mouseenter and mouseleave events. We can use it to simply apply behavior to an element during the time the mouse is within the element." So perhaps the behavior has to be applied to the element being hovered over? How can I change the css of one element while hovering over another one?

I have been trying all afternoon to achieve an effect where the background colour of a hovered on link in a list fades out slowly when the mouse rolls off it. I have found a few tutorials online which are similar to what I want to achieve (but none that are exactly right) like these:[URL].. but despite playing around with them for hours I have had no luck so far... in fact I have yet to have anything have any effect on my links whatsoever!

but this is not ideal for a couple of reasons - firstly as it is css3 it only works in modern webkit browsers and secondly there seems no way to have only a fade out without a fade in - in this example I would like the fade out to be longer but if I increase the transition time from 0.3s then the fade in becomes too long and it feels a bit clunky and unresponsive.
I use sprites for rollover effects so the hover attribute just changes the background image position. Everything works cool with the rollovers. What I would like to do, is make a text link that when rolled over will change a separate background image to it's hover state. I should add, that the the rollover image has it's own div and is separate from where the text link is located. To get a visual you can check the website [URL] In the body section I would like to make each of the dark red section titles a link that when rolled over will change the hover state of the corresponding "more" button.

I was trying to develop something where on hover of a paragraph the background colour of a div tag that contained all the content changed correspondingly.So the html is something like this:

View 1 Replies View Relatedim trying to make the left Product Categories background position "rollover" menu work on this page: [URL] at the moment the page loads and CSS hover works to set the background position so that the graphic behind makes a roll over effect. i put some javascript to set the background position permantly to the roll over on click (so the user can see which one they are on) but then this knocks out the roll over effect on all other categories - it knocks out the CSS hover: onclick="setStyle('c1','backgroundPosition','0px 0px');
it means that c1:hover no longer works.. i tried putting !important in the CSS c1:hover background position and this fixed it in Firefox but not IE. So how can i write something in Javascript to also say: onclick="setStyle('c1:hover','backgroundPosition','-276px 0px');
i know Javascript does not do hyphens and the way to get for example "background-position" in CSS is to ditch the hyphen and make "P"osition capitol. perhaps something can be done also to get to the CSS hover attribute?
