I tried to create a mouse over effect using jquery. When user hovers #box1_trigger link, the #service_box1 div should change it's background position. The code I created is the following it's not working for some reason.
html:
<div class="service_box box1" id="service_box1">
<a href="#" id="box1_trigger">
<h3> </h3>
<p> </p>
</a>
</div>
javascript:
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function() {
$("#box1_trigger").hover(
function() {
$("#service_box1").stop().animate({backgroundPosition:"(0 -250px)"}, "slow");
},
function() {
$("#service_box1").stop().animate({backgroundPosition: "0 0"}, "slow");
}
);
});
</script>
css:
#service_box1{
width:318px; height:282px;
float:left;
background:url(images/services_panel.png) 0 0 no-repeat;
}
a#box1_trigger{
width:100%; height:100%;
float:left;
display:block;
}

When I hover back and forth over a link in one area of a page, the background-image of a div in another part of the page needs to change back and forth. I have been trying all sorts of things in jquery with no results!
Here's the jquery script...
Code:
$function() {
$("#about-lifebook").hover(over,out);
function over (event) {
$(.spacer-bg-off).css("background", "url(images/spacer-content-bg.png)");
} function out (event) {
$(.spacer-bg-off).css("background", "none");
});
The link's id is "about-lifebook" and the div in question has a class of "spacer-bg-off". This ain't working at all. I just read this off of the jquery website: "The .hover() method binds handlers for both mouseenter and mouseleave events. We can use it to simply apply behavior to an element during the time the mouse is within the element." So perhaps the behavior has to be applied to the element being hovered over? How can I change the css of one element while hovering over another one?

Is it possible to swap the link image that is hovered with another image and at the same time swap different images on another place on the page? I was trying to do it in CSS but I couldn't figure out how to do both at the same time. Basically I want to go from:
after hovering over linkimg1. I can get it to do both separately but not at the same time unless I am missing the combining factor or something. Let me know if you need anything else (i.e. site, missing code) Here's the code I'm working with:

I'm trying to achieve an effect where background image will change once you hover over a different link, but not sure how to go about that...Here's what I got:
HTML
<ul id = "list">
<li id="home"><a href="#">HOME</li></a>
<li id="about"><a href="#">ABOUT</li>
<li><a href="#">PORTFOLIO</li>
<li><a href="#">WORK</li>
<li><a href="#">CONTACT</li>
<li><a href="#">GET A QUOTE</li>
</ul>
CSS
body {
background-image: url(Images/home.jpg);
} ul li {
list-style-type:none;
font-size:36px;
font-family:Impact, Charcoal, sans-serif;
} a:hover {
background-color:#7EB6FF;
-moz-border-radius: 15px;
border-radius: 5px;
width:40px;
} a:link {
text-decoration:none;
}
And JS should probably go something like this:
$("#about").hover(function() {
$(this).css("background-image", "url('Images/about.jpg')");
});
Though this only leads to image being show only partially (given that its li element only, I suppose).

I've been trying to make a html link <a> change an image right below the link. I need to do this for about 5 links (Navigation menu) and all the code I seem to stumble on and try does not work.
I have found the below code that works however it's setup to only replace ONE image. How can I set this up to accommodate about 4 more?
Javascript to make it all work
Code:
<script>
function changeimage(towhat,url){
if (document.images){

I use sprites for rollover effects so the hover attribute just changes the background image position. Everything works cool with the rollovers. What I would like to do, is make a text link that when rolled over will change a separate background image to it's hover state. I should add, that the the rollover image has it's own div and is separate from where the text link is located. To get a visual you can check the website [URL] In the body section I would like to make each of the dark red section titles a link that when rolled over will change the hover state of the corresponding "more" button.

I've been trying to figure out how to change the background image with javascript, and I've tryed a whole bunch of code this being one of them
var imageURL = "/images/content/rotator/IMG_2019.jpg";
document.body.style.backgroundImage = "url(" + imageURL + ")";
or
document.body.style.backgroundImage = "/images/content/rotator/IMG_2019.jpg";
or
document.body.background = "/images/content/rotator/IMG_2019.jpg";
With using the last one I get 'document.body' is null or not an object, but I do have a <body> tag in my page.And if I do
if (document.body){
alert("hello");
}
I dont get anything.How can I get this code to work?

I am using PHP and Javascript to create a user generated page editor. I have everything working except one thing. The user can select the background color of the page using preselected colors. They can also enter in a hexadecimal code to change the color of the background if the color they want isn't one of the preselected ones. These two things work good, but when it comes to them entering in a web address to make an image the background instead of a color, I can't get the background image to change. I have tested it out and when I enter in a predetermined url in the javas source code to test if the pic will display it does, but it doesn't go away after being displayed. So my question is using the code below, how can I get the change the background image using an input box and how can I make it go away when a color is selected instead of an image. Explained below:

After you click on the last button 3 times it should change the background to the zombies image however it isn't working. I haven't found tutorials for doing it exactly as I am attempting it but I don't see why this isn't working.It runs through the code just fine and the button works as intended except for the fact that the background image isn't changing.

I'm having a problem with changing the background image on an element when I use the .hover() and .toggleClass() methods. Here's some code:
First the CSS:
Code:
.down-arrow {
cursor: pointer;
background: #efefef url(images/arrow-down.png) no-repeat 13px 13px;
[Code]....
It seems to work ok(ish) if I use the .css() method and change it directly in the code, but I want to try and keep my styling only in my CSS file and use classes to make the change.

I have found a method which works in FireFox (2 - 3.6) & Mozilla but obviously it is not generic and IE is proving difficult to provide an attribute I can change. This (in essence) is what I am doing. I do have CSS styles and set the background (fixed, repeated) there in a style called body. The one below is an exapmple - I change the URL of the IFRAME contents several times before dumping the filtered table in the innerHTML. This leaves the background as the last one set.
Code:
body{
background-attachment: fixed;
background-image: url(images/gcount.jpg);

as you can see, I am a beginner at coding in general. My assumption to why it doesn't work is that I am combining javascript with CSS, but I am most likely wrong.

I can successfully change the background image using the following:
jQuery(document).ready(function($) {
$("div#largeimage").randombg({
directory: "http://path/to/imgs", //directory to image folder
howmany: 3 //how many images are in this folder
});
});
But, what I want to do is change this ONCE per user session. So instead of change this on every refresh / page load I want to load it once, store that setting in a cookie/session, and not do it again until the next session.

I have a few table cells that have the following class:
.tc {
some declarations
}
.tc:hover {
background color changed
}
And I have a cell that has an onclick event that calls a function. The function gets all the cells and does this to them:
cell.style.backgroundColor = 'transparent'; // or whatever else
And then the background color of a clicked cell is changed to indicate that it has been selected. The problem is: when I change a backgroundColor of the cells, their :hover states no longer work: if I try to hover the mouse over them - nothing happens.

The following script produces a box that opens on mouseover and closes on mouseover.
Code:
$('#triggerReg').hover(function(){
// do something on mouse over
$('#menuReg').show();
[code]...
It works fine for displaying brief text messages. But if you display a column of links, it closes as soon as you try to put the cursor over a link. how to modify this so that the menu stays open until you manually close it again? I changed hover(function() to click(function(), and it now opens when you click it - and it stays open. But I can't figure out how to close it.

I have been trying all afternoon to achieve an effect where the background colour of a hovered on link in a list fades out slowly when the mouse rolls off it. I have found a few tutorials online which are similar to what I want to achieve (but none that are exactly right) like these:[URL].. but despite playing around with them for hours I have had no luck so far... in fact I have yet to have anything have any effect on my links whatsoever!
[Code]...
but this is not ideal for a couple of reasons - firstly as it is css3 it only works in modern webkit browsers and secondly there seems no way to have only a fade out without a fade in - in this example I would like the fade out to be longer but if I increase the transition time from 0.3s then the fade in becomes too long and it feels a bit clunky and unresponsive.
