Javascript: Img-Change-Problem With IE

Jul 20, 2005

I've a problem with JavaScript and IMG-Objects.
On my webpage I use a big image and several small images. If you click
on a small image, it executes a JavaScript to change the source of the
big image to the source of the small image.

It's working fine, but on some browsers (I use IE 6.0.2800.1106) the
image doesn't change properly.
I click on the image and the big image turns white. Now I have to
click on the image again and sometimes it works and changes the image
(without reloading the site). I've found no logic, why it's working
only sometimes. Code:

If Then To Change A Parameter In Javascript

The following information is passed to a script to generate an email
from a form.
<INPUT TYPE="hidden" name="param_recipient" value="me@mycompany.org">

In the form further down on the page, a user enters a value in the ru
field. I want to write something similar to:
if ru=122 then sendformto="me@mycompany.org"
if ru=144 then sendformto="you@mycompany.org"

the paramater above would then become something like:
<INPUT TYPE="hidden" name="param_recipient" value=sendformto>

How would I go about doing this?

Can I Change An Href In Javascript?

Jul 20, 2005

I am using some javascript code to change an image on an html page. I would
like the user to click on the image to bring them to another page. I need to
change an href to include an id value based on the image.

Here's the process:

1. select an image from a drop down list.
2. view the image on the same page.
3. click on the image to bring user to another page.

Here's my attempt at it:

function nextimg() {
txtString =
document.Topics.sel_val.options[document.Topics.sel_val.selectedIndex].value
document.image1.src = txtString.substring(txtString.lastIndexOf("&") + 1);
document.frmPic.href="details.asp?id=" & txtString;
}

I also think that txtString is not what I need. I believe it is a text
string (12345.jpg). So I will need to parse the string as well to get the
"12345".

Change The Domain, Keep The Path..with Javascript?

May 25, 2007

I'm currently at http://www.domain.com/the-path.jsp, and I would like
to be able, with JavaScript--and possibly the click of a button, which
I will most likely attach to IE's toolbar--transport to
http://domain.dev.domain.com/the-path.jsp.

Here's the environment: My browser is set to the page http://www.domain.com/the-path.jsp
and I plan to add a button to IE's toolbar via the registry that I
would like to execute the JavaScript, which contain the code to
perform the aforementioned procedure.

My JavaScript knowledge is, as I'm sure you've already surmised,
limited.

Here's what I know (or what I think I know)

The .js file header:
oShell= new
ActiveXObject("WScript.Shell");

the object: window.location.replace [or href].

I have a feeling a "and if" statement is needed here. Am I correct?

BTW: As far as the registry button addition is concerned, I'm set on
how to do that.

JavaScript Function That Will Change XML Style Sheets

Dec 14, 2007

I've been trying to make a Firefox extension and I am finding a need for a style sheet switcher. I have found several sites that will give you stylesheet switches for HTML, XHTML, but not XML. When I search for an XML stylesheet switcher I'm getting information on XSLT. Which I do not want to use at this time. I want the stylesheet switcher to be a JavaScript function since I know how to evoke functions with XUL menu overlays the form of XML used to create Firefox extensions. I'm not looking for somebody here to know XUL. I would just like a function which you know would work with XML to try in my XUL form of XML to see if it will work. A link that would give me this function or information on how to write it would be good to. I am a newbie to both XML and Firefox extension writing. I spent all they reading about XML hoping it would give me the answer but it didn't. I have seen some information which seems to say that XML as similar stylesheet capabilities to HTML so I know that.

How would I do this? Would I be able to reference them all at once or would I have to reference each individual cell one at a time.

Slide Show, Want To Change Some Text As Images Change.

Oct 2, 2011

I'm a real newbie with Javascript, but I'm having fun. I just bought the book, "Simply Javascript" (have only just cracked it so far). I'm reasonably familiar with PHP (I use a lot of it to do simple things). I'm a Web desinger and do custom CSS Websites (I'm fairly new to that too couple of years or more working with CSS and I've never done a table based layout.

[Code]...

But when the button is clicked, nothing will call the showCaption() function again, and I can't figure out how to call that function as the images advance. I have tried a lot of things with a lot of weird results, one being the tne next caption will display in a blank browser window, without the Webpage! I'm not sure why that happens, but I have a clue.

Is there an easier way to do what I want to do? I only want to show a few lines of text that will describe each image. Seems simple enough to me, but I'm just too new to make it work.

Change All Divs/inputs, Then Change Them Back

Jun 23, 2010

I am trying to change my cursor to a help cursor for a webapp I'm helping to develop. It partially works, except when an element has a CLASS attribute. For example:

HTML Code:
<div id="outer">
<input type="text" id="textouternoclass" />
<input type="text" id="textouterwithclass" class="foo" />

[Code]....

So now to my questions:

1) Is this okay? Is there a better way to do this?

2) With doing this, any divs/inputs that do have their cursor attribute set will lose it. What's the best way to store this info so it can be reset?

Dynamically Writing Html/javascript From A Javascript Function

Jul 23, 2005

I'm working on some code and am running into brick walls. I'm trying
to write out Javascript with Javascript and I've read the clj Meta FAQ
and didn't see the answer, read many similar posts (with no luck
though), and searched through the IRT.ORG Faqs
(www.irt.org/script/script.htm).

The Javascript is designed to open an popup window and then inside that
window call another script which will resize that window. There may be
another way around this but the reason I tried this approach initially
was that I wanted to call the onload handler in the popup window to
resize the image only after the image had completely loaded. I've had
some code in the primary Javascript file (showimage.js) before that
works if the image has been cached but on the first load, it doesn't
resize properly which tells me it is probably because it is trying to
resize the window based on the image size but it isn't completely known
at that point. So I removed that code and tried placing the resizing
code in the second Javascript file (resizewindow.js). BTW I've tried
other code to open a popup image and automatically size it ie Q1443 at
irt.org but that doesn't do exactly what we need.

Even if there is another way to do this with one file, I still want to
figure out why this isn't working in case I run into it in the future.

I thought what I would need to do to use document.writeln to write
Javascript would be to escape any special characters and to break
apart the script tag ie

document.writeln('</SCRIPT>');

would become

document.writeln('</SCR' + 'IPT>');

I have a HTML page and 2 Javascript files. All files are in the same
directory and have permissions set correctly.

Here are the 3 files (keep in mind wordwrap has jacked up the
formatting):

index.html
----------
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN">
<html>
<head>
<title>Test</title>
<SCRIPT type="text/javascript" LANGUAGE="JavaScript1.1"
SRC="showimage.js">
</SCRIPT>
</head>

<body>
Click the house<BR>
<A ONCLICK="newWindow1('house1.jpg','Nice House')"><IMG
SRC="house1thumb.jpg"></A>
</body>
</html>

showimage.js
------------
function newWindow1(pic,sitename)
{

picWindow=window.open('','','width=25,height=25,sc rollbars=1,resizable=1');
picWindow.document.writeln('<html> <head>');
picWindow.document.writeln('<SCR' + 'IPT type="text/javascript"
LANGUAGE="JavaScript1.1" SRC="resizewindow.js"></SCR' + 'IPT>');
picWindow.document.writeln('</head>');
picWindow.document.writeln('<body onload="resizewindow();">');
picWindow.document.writeln('<img src=' + pic + '>');
picWindow.document.writeln('</body> </html>');
picWindow.document.close();
}

resizewindow.js
---------------
function resizewindow()
{
// Do resizing here.
// Right now this isn't being executed
alert("resizing window");
}

Can anyone provide some pointers as to why this javascript is failing?
I'm using IE6 on Win2k and when I click on the image to open the popup
window, it does open the window but it is white with no content and the
system immediately goes from about 4% CPU usage to 100% and
consistently stays there until I kill that window with the task
manager.
