I have a site that look great in all browsers except IE. There are some hover effects on the menu and a few other items on the page that look terrible in IE but if I disable the scirpt that calls the hover effects then the items look great.How can I use jQuery to stop another jQuery script from loading on my site in IE only?

I am trying to get to where it will check to make sure either one of the checkboxes are selected, then if not, show alert and do nothing else, but it is still loading the next page in the form action. How can I get this to not load the page when the check fails and only when it passes?

I have a website which includes stories with multiple chapters. These chapters have a set of clickable arrows at top and bottom to take you forwards and back through the chapters, including a "last chapter" arrow.When a story is in progress, the URL of the last chapter changes with each chapter added. Rather than having to go back into every previous chapter and change the URL of the last chapter by hand, I set them up so that the "last chapter" arrow is actually in an inline frame. That way, I only have to change the URL once, in the file go_end.htm which is the source for the frame. So both the picture of the arrow and its hyperlink are being accessed from outside.
My web pages are also set up to run on all major browsers and to detect the window width and resize all the artwork to fit, regardless of the browser and whether or not it accepts percentage sizes. Go_end.htm is no exception - it contains Javascript code which resizes the arrow so it is the same size as the ones which are actually in the parent page, outside the frame.This setup works perfectly in IE and Netscape, but Google Chrome either fails to display the arrow or makes it huge so it doesn't fit the frame. This seems to be because their superfast new Javascript editor is *too* fast. If I bung an alert command into go_end.htm, asking it to say the value of picWidth (the variable which sets the width of the arrow) as it loadfs, what happens is this.
Google Chrome displays an alert saying that picWidth is zero, then loads the first instance of the inline frame with no got-to-end arrow. Then it displays an alert giving a proper value for picWidth and loads the second inline frame with the arrow correctly displayed and sized. If I take out the alerts, it doesn't load the arrow in *either* frame. It's obvious that inserting the alert command somehow forces it to recognise the value of the variable which it then retains for long enough to load the arrow on the second pass.Any ideas for some command other than alert which would trick it into not loading the image until it's recognised the variable? If I put a time delay on loading the frame I can't see that that would help - the problem is that from the point at which it starts actually loading the frame it needs to wait for the variable to be set.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a site that is very jQuery and image heavy. The main sections of the site link to sections that are built with several Tabs, and as it loads, you briefly see all the content load and then it is hidden by the Tabs code.
The plan is to have a full window DIV that sits above all the content with a loading icon that plays until the entire page loads, and then it fades down.
After some hair pulling and research I have code in place that does exactly as I ask, however it does not seem to work in IE6+7. It works in all other browsers.

I have this loading.gif image that is 750px, when it should be 32px. The reason it's huge now is because my original solution was displaying two images: one 750px version of the loading.gif image and one 32px version (in the center of the 750px) of the same image. Now I'm at least down to one image, even if it's the wrong version.Click any of the thumbnail images here, and then again on the thumbnail at the top of that popup product gallery to see what I mean: need that huge loading.gif to be 32px like it should be, and then expand to 750px once the image is loaded. Im trying to add some simple display features to a web application and am running into some unexpected IE8 behavior. Basically, the app runs some database retrieval from the server using Ajax techniques, and during that time (say, 30 seconds), I want to just give the user a clue as to whats going on. It could be as simple as a wait cursor. More interesting, I prefer to unhide a div with an animated loading icon, then hide it again when loading is complete.

I have a lot of javascript functions that request information from an iframe hidden on the page. I see other sites do this, but their browser does not do the loading action (like the processing circle in Firefox). When I do it on my site, each browser shows the loading icon, as if a page was loading. Is it possible to not have this?

I can't just put the loading gif behind the images (as you would normaly) because you can see it with each image fade in and out. how I can have a loading gif show "only" while the images are initially loading, and then it goes away?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a jQuery script that loads and displays a small window on a mouse hover. I use jQuery AJAX to load the content on that window. Having that, I noticed that loading the response from php file (which does not have a php code, only the file has .php on its name) is slower than the same file content with .html name. I wonder if this is a common problem or there is some issue with my codes. I will post my code if needed (if that seems to be the problem).Note: I mentioned that there is no php code in the php file because I am only testing the performance currently. After it is developed, there will be (obviously) php code in it.

Therefor I want some of loading image to be displayed while the page is loading. Anybody has an idea how to pull this of? I don't know how.
In detail: People come to my website. They click on "events" and a loading.gif pops up and and makes the background darker. After the page has completely loaded the loading image disappears and the website shows.
I have 2 div blocks next to each other.
Whenever the mouse enters block1, an animation is started.
Now when I move the mouse from block1 to block2, the first animation needs to stop and the animation for block2 needs to start.
So I have a function:

The problem is now, as soon as the mouse leaves block1, the animation stops for a second before it starts the animation triggered by mouseenter into block2.
What I need is a smooth transition with no stop of the animation. Is there a way to realize that with jquery?

And what this is doing is when a mouse is put over my div 'hireMe', the background position is animated upwards and in fades in my text with an id of 'resume'. However if halfway though the FadeIn you move the mouse out of the container, it will permantly be stuck in this limbo world and will never return to 100% opacity again. Am I utilizing the stop() properly?

I am trying to find a way to stop a DIV from reloading with the rest of the page content.
I have a fixed position div at the bottom of the browser with image thumbnails. I am trying to figure how I can get this DIV to NOT refresh when a link inside it is selected. This will allow the scroll position in this div will remain in the correct location.

But the event isn't working all the time. It stops working after I change to another window and come back to the browser window.
I'm using prettyPhoto for a gallery on my page. I'd like to keep it the same size independent of the photo size. So if the image is too big, the image shrinks down to the size of the box (although I don't mind the way it currently works of mostly filling the window). More importantly, I'd like it to not shrink to fit smaller images. It would be best if it would just center a too-small image.
Unfortunately, one of the images that is in the gallery is only 200x150, while most are around 800x600.

Somehow, I just now realized that the default dimensions don't seem to apply to anything (or at least they're not limiting anything as far as I can tell).
Perhaps something from how it works for iframe? The images don't thumbnail properly for the gallery if I put the width/height in the anchor href...
