JQuery :: Adding Class To <a> Tags
Oct 15, 2009I have wrote some jQuery thats adds a class to any <a> tag that contains an external link. That way an icon can be applied to the <a> using CSS!
Code JavaScript:
$("#contentPg > p > a[href^='http://']").addClass('icon').addClass('wwwDoc').attr('rel','external');
However, I want to try and modify this script so that it only adds the class if the <a> tag is directly after a <p>, however I am not sure how to achieve this? The reason I wish to achieve this is so that Icons are not applied when the link is in the middle of a line of text, but only when the link is on a line of its own!
Show / Hide DIVs With Same Class Names Independently
Mar 7, 2011I've got a PHP while loop spitting out an article title and it's content from a database and I have links to show or hide the content of the article under each title. I tried simply putting using jquery hide/show on the divs, but as you'd expect this will show and hide every div at the same time. I want to show and hide the content of the article selected as you'd expect.s!

But this only adds the "myClass" to the first <li>, I'd like the set of <li> tags directly underneath to have the same css class. I have a menu structure and it's only the first set

Sep 26, 2011I need to insert a "</td><td>" after an element with a class that is generated dynamically by PHP. I've discovered that jQuery automatically reverses this back to <td></td>. Is there any workaround? I've tried .after and .insertAfter -- they work for inserting everything except "backwards" element tags.

JQuery :: Drag & Drop To Sort Categories And Post This New Sort Order To DB?
Jun 9, 2009OK so Ive been using jquery for a little bit now and love it. I am a ColdFusion developer. I have a need where I would like to present the user with a list of categories and the user can drag and drop to sort, but then I need to post this new sort order to the database. So I see there are a ton of cool drag & drop plugins for jquery. I understand how they work and I can get it to work as far as spitting out DIVS or spitting out ULs that can be sorted, but then what? So now they are sorted on my screen and not really part of the form. How do I translate that into something I can do a post to the database with? Do I do an AJAX call every time they drop an item and try to extrapolate the sort order on that item after they drop it? Do I populate a hidden form field with the constantly updating sort order list? MAybe a list of ID's? How does everyone else go about this this task? I'm sure there is more than one way and I'm sure this is a common task.

The script is written in javascript and I expect the functions to be in javascript syntax.

Mar 9, 2011I'm trying to figure out which selector is faster (assuming that the class 'foo' only appears on input tags)...
$('.foo');
or
$('input.foo');
From what I've seen online, it seems that people recommend $('input.foo'), but in some limited testing it appears that $('.foo') is much faster in both FF and Chrome. In IE, both methods seem to produce similar results. Here is a fiddle with a simple example...
