View 30 RepliesI'm currently working with a bit of javascript to dynamically add
<option>s into a select box. My code currently works fine in Internet
Explorer, however in Firefox the dropdown only displays the first
option in the list, and when clicked the other values aren't displayed.
Here is the code;
//ar_options is an array with the option to be displayed in.
for (count=0; count<number_of_options+1; count++)
{
document.forms['enquiry'].enquirytype.options[count] = new
Option(ar_options[count],ar_options[count]);
};
As I said - fine in Internet Explorer, but not in Firefox. I did
discover some discussions about this, which were talking about an issue
and workarounds but I couldn't get any of them to work. I have also
tried simply using the document.write() function to output the HTML in
the correct place. However this is just hte same, works in IE but not
Firefox.
im trying to get the syntax down to find all img tags that are NOT surrounded by tags and wrap those img tags in tags. I can get the selector to get all img tags and wrap it in a tag but i need to further take it to disregard the img tags that already are wrapped in pseudocode $(img parent tag not equal to p).each().....

I am trying to wrap <a> tags around text in <li> elements. How can I get the index of the <li> in the <ul>? I tried something like this: $('.tabbed-list li').wrapInner('<a></a>'); That works fine. View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm pretty sure this is a Javascript issue, despite the subject line of this message.I'm using Javascript to create a popup window on my site. Users click on the link and get a popup with supplemental information about the item they clicked on. Works great. The html link to open the popup looks like this:
<a href="javascript:popup(xMoreInfo_popup)" onMouseOut="clearEl();">Click HERE for more information</a>
...where "xMoreInfo_popup" is a variable that tells the "popup" function which information (html code) to display. This then connects to a Javascript function that looks like this:
var popupWin
var wholeWin
function popup(term) // write corresponding content to the popup window
[code]....
Now to my problem. This works as expected and just perfectly in IE. If the user clicks on the GO TO SUPPLEMENTAL link, it autoscrolls down to the supplemental information. In Firefox, however, it behaves quite oddly. Instead, when the link is clicked, the popup window displays the html from the original parent, rather than the information in the popup window! Now I can click on the original "parent window" link in the popup window, then it shows the popup information again in the same popup window, but autoscrolled to the proper place this time.
For some reason now in Firefox 4 my JavaScript is not working for my carousel function. Check it out at [URL]
It works in IE, Safari, and Firefox 3 and before. Not Firefox 4 though.

What's the best way to wrap all the nodes between two nodes in DIV tags? Is it possible with the DOM? I have code similar to the following:
HTML Code:
<h3>First header</h3>
<p>First paragraph</p>
<p>Second paragraph</p>
[code].....
How can I achieve this with the DOM, without resorting to doing something like a string replace?
I have about 13 ul li a items in a list and some have nested lists within them e.g. ul li ul li a and some don't. I want to prevent the default action on only a elements that have nested lists within them but not prevent default action for ones that don't. Here's an example of the markup.
[Code]...
However, instead, is there a way to tell jQuery to only apply this preventDefault to ul li a elements that have ul li a descendants/children (not sure of correct terminology here) so I can have the list items in any order?
I have my website getting a value as a result of an ajax call. After that, I would like to insert that result (a string) into a tag. However, I would like to insert that result in a way that (1) it must have opacity = 0, then (2) it will slideDown() so the whole content list being pushed down using animation, and finally (3) change opacity = 1. Imagine this is just like a Facebook message list insert process The way I am planning to do this is to return the result string from ajax to opacity=0 first. However, I don't know how to use jQuery to select a tag from within a string. I know jQuery only select from the DOM. So how to do this?

I have some auto-generated code in a similar format to this:
<li class="item">

Text I want to remove

I want to select the line of text ("Text I want to remove" - with no HTML tags around it) and hide it using CSS (or remove it all together, if I can). I have tried using insertAfter to put a start <span> tag at the start of the line, and insertBefore to close the </span> tag at the end of the line (so I can apply CSS display:none; to it), but clearly JQuery doesn't work like that.
Is there another way to get rid of this line of text?
I have noticed that when doing animations (moving an item across the screen), at times the animations are choppy in firefox. It is hard to explain how to reproduce this problem as it seems it is dependent on random elements of the page. I have tested the same page in Opera, Safari and IE and the animations are very smooth.[code]If I put the code block anywhere but inside the content div, the animation is smooth. However once put where it belongs, the animation becomes choppy in firefox. I was playing around a bit and found out that doing some random changes causes the animations to become smooth. For instance, removing height: 100% on the nav makes the animations in the content div smooth. I lucked out with this as it doesnt change the layout of the website at all. Another solution I found is that if I remove the box shadows I have on the mainsection the animations become smooth. These attributes are no problem for Safari and Opera though.I recently rewrote the plugin I was working on and ran into this problem again. However, removing the height:100% trick did not work.
I know this is most likely a problem with Firefox, I just wanted to see if any of you know a solution. Also, have you seen any related tickets in mozilla bugzilla? If not, I may have to create a new ticket for it.
I need to remove the checkbox and label when a checkbox is selected. For example: I check the checkbox "flashlight". --> The checkbox and the text "flashlight" slowly fade away

$('#content >').hover(function(){

I have several pages, all with multiple select boxes. Each select has a different name, but contains the same values (ok, not ok, fixed, needs fixing). I am trying to write a single script that will loop through each select box on the page, find all the 'not ok' values, then send the select box name, with the option value to a holding area (probably an array) which will be emailed to someone once all the pages have been entered by the user.
At this time, I am just trying to figure out the looping through one page of select boxes. The script is currently tied to an onclick event for the submit button.

I am currently seeking help on how to best approach finding a solution to this. Essentially I have a textarea which a user is supposed to be typing a text based email message(no HTML) The textarea has a column width of 80 However there is a recommended width of 53 characters per line. Obviously the user can just keep on typing away past the 53 character recommended width if they want, but I want to add either a form button or a link with an onClick thatanalyzes the contents of the textarea. It should insert a hard return when it reaches 53 characters, but if the 53rd character is in the middle of a word it should count back to the previous space and do the line wrap there.
Can anyone point me in the right direction? I assumed there has to a solution using jQuery, but I am at a loss. I did come across some javascript which works, but it doesn't take into account the fact that the 53rd character maybe in the middle of a word.

I have a textarea with a specific width. I have wrap="off" set because I don't want to force my users to wrap if they don't want to. The reason for this is because this textarea is where the user is typing an email message. However I have a background image set on the textarea with a verticle line going down the textarea which indicates to the user the "Recommend Width"What I want to do is provide them with a link to click on which says something like "Wrap Lines" and when they click on it, the text within the textarea would wrap to the "Recommended Width" line in the background image. The maximum length of a line should be 53 characters when they click on "Wrap Lines" link.So I did some searching around and the code I came up with is:
Code:
function showLines(max, text) {
max--;
text = "" + text;
var temp = "";
var chcount = 0;

I am using the following selctor: $('div img[rel*="Zoom"]')
But I am trying to select all IMG tags which DO NOT contain "Zoom" in their REL attribute.
I figured I could make this work with the :not() selector somehow, but the tests I ran didn't work.
I want to use document.write to output the values of an array. If the array is too long, it totally ignores the width of the container div. How do I get the values to word-wrap when they get to the end of the container?
I've searched on this forum, and also googled for the answer but can't find a solution. I'm still fairly new to Javascript.
