JQuery :: Small Code - Work - In IE8 It Says "expected Identifier"
Feb 21, 2011jQuery.fn.hoverToggleClass = function(class){
The code is too simple to cause a problem i think, but in IE8 it says "expected identifier".

This works perfectly fine in firefox but i need it to work in IE
the form variable names are all correct and everything but in Ie it keeps telling me when i submit the form that there is an Expected Identifier problem. Code:
IE 7 is throwing a JS error and I can't figure out why (probably because I am new to JS). FF and IE8 do not throw any JS errors. The JS error I get looks like this:
Line: 42
Char: 3
Error: Expected identifier, string or number
Code: 0
URL: http://dev.emsketch.com/
I'm not sure which JS file this error file is referencing.
Here is my JavaScript code:

I have a feeling its something other than just braces missing somewhere, I have looked carefully and I'm:confused: just having bad luck!! I cant proceed to the next stage of my code unless I get this bit perfected with no syntax errors.

I have a table that looks like:
And a function to add a row and cells in the row that looks like:
The problem is the insertCell won't insert that first cell with an x in it (which will allow users to click on the x button to delete the row) in the first cell in Google Chrome. Firefox inserts a row with the first cell containing the x button but no other cells with the text boxes.
I've tried setting the index on the cell insert to 0, 1, 8, nothing and Chrome either inserts a row with nothing in it (no text boxes, no x button, nothing other than a slight addition of space below the title row) or it adds the row correctly except the x button always winds up in the last cell. IE adds it correctly with no index value or 0. Firefox needs the 0 index (no index creates a blank row with nothing in it. It looks like there's a tiny blank row of nothing being inserted because you see the table get a tiny bit larger vertically but there is no x button, text boxes.
What am I doing wrong? How do I make this work in all 3 browsers? Well actually all browsers ideally but....
Further, if I supply the 0 index to get a row, clicking on the x button to delete it works correctly in IE and Chrome but does nothing in Firefox.
That code looks like:
So what is wrong with both the addRow and removeRow functions that is causing Chrome and Firefox to behave incorrectly?
I have a HTML/Javascript code which dynamically calculates the entries and gives the grand total.I have it working in table form using textboxes, but when I try to transform it using iWebkit to Form using small fields, the calculator does not work.I want to simply subtract 1 text field from another and user presses a button and gives an answer in a 3rd text field

This works fine when I place this code under the html in the main source, but if I try to add this Jquery code to an external js sheet it doesnt seem to work?
Currently my js sheet is called in the header, when I move this link to the footer of my page the code works again, so Im guessing this has something to do with where the jquery code is placed in relation to the code Im trying to hide?
How I can keep my js in the header but still make the content disappear on click?
I wanted to create a small DHTML code that created a unordered list of input forms dependent on the number selected from the select dropdown menu. Problem is that it doesn't seem to want to generate the list. I think the variables are within the scope of the function too, and I didn't get an errors from the javascript console when using firebug. The script itself runs, I tested it when I used the old standby alert(); to see if the script was active. Here's the code:

I am a novice, almost to an intermediate-level JavaScript guy, so much of this is new to me. I appreciate your patience reading this.
I have a routine that creates some HTML on the fly (updateFilters() function) and after the HTML is created, I attempt to access some fields (elements) on the form itself.
I works fine if I place an alert() statement after the HTML is created, but when I remove, the code errors out.
I have tried the setTimeout() statement, but I cannot grab the element --- undefined or null is returned. It seems that the form is the only element I can get a handle on --- everything else is undefined or null...
Here is the code:
function editQuery() {
var f;
var x;
var myForm = document.forms[0];
// Get the row filters that were used in the last query..
for (f = 1; f < 16; f++) {
var filter = eval("myForm.FilterList_" + f);
if (filter.selectedIndex > 0) {
var methodElement = element("FilterMethod_" + f);
var methodIndex = methodElement.selectedIndex;
var savedFilterMethodValue = methodElement.options[methodIndex].text;
var choicesElement = element("FilterChoices_" + f);
var choicesIndex = choicesElement.selectedIndex;
if (isNaN(choicesIndex)) {
var savedFitlerValues = choicesElement.value;
}
else {
var savedFitlerValues = choicesElement.options[choicesIndex].text;
}
updateFilters(filter); // update the filters
// take the saved methods and values and then update the selections
// Alert here makes the code work..
// alert("Try this");
// Wait for HTML..
setTimeout("completeEdit()", 1000);
function completeEdit() {
// Since the object was updated, get the object again..
var methodElement = element("FilterMethod_" + f);
for (x = 0; x < methodElement.options.length; x++) {
if (methodElement.options[x].text == savedFilterMethodValue) {
methodElement.options[x].selected = true;
break;
}
else {
methodElement.options[x].selected = false;
}
}
// Since the object was updated, get the object again..
var choicesElement = element("FilterChoices_" + f);
for (x = 0; x < choicesElement.options.length; x++) {
if (choicesElement.options[x].text == savedFitlerValues) {
choicesElement.options[x].selected = true;
break;
}
else {
choicesElement.options[x].selected = false;
}
}
// Only display next row if f = 2..
// If only one row was used, no reason display the next row..
if (f == 2) {
displayNextFilter(f - 1); // display it
}
}
clearTimeout(timeOut);
}
}
}
Do I have to pass the object (the form, the elements) to the completeEdit() function in the setTimeout() statement?
I've tried to address this issue multiple times, and yet IE 8 simply ignores it. I know jquery has the capability of operating correctly with other examples, but the below code just doesn't seem to satisfy it.[code]

I'm trying to run through the simplest tutorials on jquery and for some reason I can't get any of the jquery code to work.I've downloaded jquery and I've made sure that this file is in the same directory as jquery-1.3.2.js.This is the code taken from the tutorial:
<html>
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8">[code]....
when the user clicks on the link it shouldn't take them to [url]....instead it should display an alert box. but it takes me to[url]...every time.
This code works on ie7, but it does not work on firefox. it just shows a alert when focus occur on an element. you can just click something on the page and you will see alert at ie7.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am developing a html ordering system that does not use a database but sends the data via email. To differentiate between two orders I would like to generate and add an unique identifier to the email. One approach I have seen is using data object to generate an unique id:
function uniqid()
{
var newDate = new Date;
return newDate.getTime();
}
This is not guaranteed to be unique as two people can send their request at the exact same time. One question pops up, the data being generated, is this local or utc time? Also, the number being generated in this situation is quite big and not so easy to differentiate two orders for a human. Ideally I would like to generate a global sequence starting at 1 and incrementing by one for each user that clicks on the order button regardless of timing, timezone etc. Is this possible given the constraints given at the start of the post?
I an supposed to write a java script script that has subprograms nested three deep
and in which nested subprograms references variables defined in all of its enclosing subprograms but I dont know how to do it.
function/subprogram
function Identifier(par1, par2, ...parN){
executable block
return value;
return value for functions only
}
calling a subprogram function
call a subprogram by the subprogram identifier.
Im trying to use JavaScript to submit this form. Why doesn't this code work anymore? It worked before and now it won't?

I've built a website and have used JQuery for the 1st time. Everything works fine in Firefox and Safari but IE is really giving me a headache now! The site can be seen HERE When you roll over the main links a sub menu rolls out, when you roll over the next main link the sub menu in view scrolls back in and the one associated with the new link scrolls out - please view in either FF or Safari to see it working.
In IE the functionality of the menus just doesn't cut it??? the 1st two (Company and Services) seem to work as expected when you roll back and forth over them, but the last 2 (Portfolio and Contact) are really flakey??? They stay scrolled out when they should be scrolling back in, although sometimes they do actually scroll in, and on the last one (Contact) only one of the two links in the sub menu appears and then its not clickable????? Again please conpare between FF and IE to see what i mean.
Can anyone offer me some advice on solving this, i'm looking to get the IE version to work just as well as i have it in FF. Unfortunately I don't have any experience with javascript / jquery to fall back on so i'm just hitting my head against a brick wall at the moment.

I am trying to create some divs that hide and show when a link is clicked. There may be multiples on the same page and it each needs to functionindependently.
I've added it to jsfiddle : [URL]
When the user clicks a show more link the first time nothing happens. If you do it again the div expands as planned (great!). If you do it again to close it slides back up but then bounces straight down again (Not Great!). I can't figure out what I've done wrong!. Eventually I'm going to add more functions to show some hidden data as well.
I'm very new to JQ, I was looking for a solution to expand a div on mouse hover from its center to display some dynamic text wrapped in a code tag, I found and tried to fit to my needs this little piece of code, however is not exactly what I'm trying to do.
