JQuery :: Reset Index Value In $.each Method For Endless Loop?
Dec 9, 2011
I'm trying to get a endless loop going, for example for looping continually through a group of photos. So what I have is:
$(function(){
var ima = Array("johnny_100.jpg", "beau_400.jpg", "mofat_400.jpg");
$.each(ima, function(index, val){
[Code].....
so basically how could I reset the index, or maybe there is a better way to make an endless loop?

I have a form on my page, which I want to validate on submit. The code looks something like this:
$('#form').submit(function(){ if ($('#field1').length == 4 && $('#field2').length == 3) {
$.ajax({
url: someAjaxUrl,
dataType: 'html',
type: 'get',
success: function(html){ if (html != '') {
//show error
} else {
//submit form
}}});
} else {
//show other error
} return false;
});
Now, if I try to use
$('#form').submit();
In the else statement within the success function, the validation keeps getting triggered in an endless loop.
But if I use
document.form.submit();
- or document.getElementById('kbaFormSearch').submit(); -
The form gets submitted correctly. Is this because the anonymous callback function within the earlier defined
$('#form).submit()
gets triggered again? And if so, is there a way to get this to work without using "native JS" (not that I'm against it, but it would not make much sense to me unless there is no other way).

I figured out the one question but I am thinking the code below would get into an endless loop if two items to sort were equal because it never returns a 0 to alert the javascript sort function that the two items are equal... Is this correct?
The code ...
$(document).ready(function() {
$('#ascending').click(function() {
SORTER.sort('.sortable');
});
$('#descending').click(function() {
SORTER.sort('.sortable', 'desc');
});
});
var SORTER = {};
SORTER.sort = function(which, dir) {
SORTER.dir = (dir == "desc") ? -1 : 1;
$(which).each(function() {
// Find the list items and sort them
var sorted = $(this).find("> li").sort(function(a, b) {
return $(a).text().toLowerCase() > $(b).text().toLowerCase() ? SORTER.dir : -SORTER.dir;
});
$(this).append(sorted);
});
};

I'm not sure if the subject describes what I'm asking very well, but it's the best I can think of. In this example:
$(".nav a").bind("click", function(event, i) {
});
Is there a way to get the index of the a you clicked passed into the handler? Like if I clicked the second A i would = 2.Same question for any jquery method actually. Since they all work off of collections I'd like to be able to get the index on anything.

Given the following HTML:
<ul>
<li class="">1</li>
<li>2</li>
<li>3</li>
[Code].....
Unfortunately that doesn't work. I understand that the index() isdocumentation (though confusing) correctly tells you that the above code doesn't work. Maybe I'm just weird, but I feel that the way .index() is implemented for string arguments is very counter intuitive. I have an expectation that .index() is similar to indexOf() in javascript.

I have seen this question asked several times while searching the internet and all the answers seem to be workarounds. Is there a way to do an animation forever with jQuery? All I get are recursion errors; not on my code but on jQuery. Line 580 of jquery-1.4.2.js
So this is what I am doing. I have a complex function for smooth extremely slow animation (clouds in the sky) my function moves an object one pixel at a time. If I take out all recursion, the clouds move one pixel with no error. If I leave the recursion in then I get the recursion error. I am not posting my code first because every time this question is asked they focus on the code. I want to know how to do this regardless of my one scenario.

The following code results in the exact same output. Is there an advantage to using i++ over ++i (or visa-versa) in the loop? :confused:
<script type="text/javascript">
var tarr1 = []; for (var i=0; i<10; i++) { tarr1.push(i); }
var tarr2 = []; for (var i=0; i<10; ++i) { tarr2.push(i); }
alert(tarr1.join(',')+'
'+tarr2.join(','));
</script>

I have a table (not in a form) that has several input text boxes. I want to have a reset button that acts like the form RESET button. I thought I would use the following jQuery method:
Here's my reset button code:
Here's one of my table input lines:
I thought this would be simple, but I can't seem to figure out how to target the text that the user types into an input field before he/she decides to "reset" and start over.
I'm thinking that my problem is that I can't find the correct syntax for my line: $('input.firstname').value('')

I am trying to get the index of a li with a specific class. I know I'm selecting the right object because I can apply a CSS class to it (eg change border colour) but when I try to get the index it returns -1. But I know the object exists as I can alter it. :-s
jQuery(document).ready(function() {
var active = $("#tertiarynavigation .bordered").get(0);
var num = $("#tertiarynavigation li").index(active);
alert("Index: " + num);

I have a problem with layers. In my example there's a link inside div#msg with 'z-index:1' and a overlay with 'z-index:2'. Now when "mousedown" fires, will change the div#msg z-index value from 1 to 3 to be on Top, so the link become a clickable link.
The question is, it is possible to make the link on top and open it with just one click?
This example can do that but won't open the link!

I'm trying to do something, but I don't know if it's possible.
Basically, I want to have a public static class method that could
access a private object's method. I would like to be able to do :
Class.method(InstanceOfClass);
The method would then access a private function from Class by doing
something like
function method(param) {
param.privateMethodOfClass();
}
I've done a lot research and experimentations but just can't come up
with a solution... I don't even know if what I'm trying to do is
possible.

Why is the callwhy is the slice method only a method of an Array instance? The reason why I ask is because if you want to use it for the arguments property of function object, or a string, or an object, or a number instance, you are forced to use Array .prototype slice.call(). And by doing that, you can pass in any type of object instance (Array, Number, String, Object) into it. So why not just default it as a method of all object instances built into the language?In other words, instead of doing this:
function Core(){
var obj = {a : 'a', b : 'b'};
var num = 1;[code]....
//right now none of the above would work but it's more convenient than using the call alternative.
}
Core('dom','event','ajax');
Why did the designers of the javascript scripting language make this decision?

I have a form with 40 radio button lists. Each radio button list contains 2 radio buttons = "OK" and "NA". The radio button lists are given ID's like "page1RB1", "page1RB2" etc. The radio button lists are assigned a class "rbOK". I am trying to reset all of the radio buttons to "OK" using the following code:
function clearChecklist(){
$('.rbOK').each(function(intIndex){
var theText = "#" + $(this).attr('id');
var theDL = theText.replace('RB', 'DL');
$(theText.replace('RB', 'CP')).css({'color':'maroon'});
$(theDL).css({'color':'gray'});
$(theDL).val(-1);
$(theDL).attr('disabled', 'disabled');
$(theText).css({'color':'black'});
$('input[name=' + theText + ']:eq(0)').attr('checked', 'checked');
});}
As an aside, I also have a drop down list and label associated with each radio button list using a similar naming/ID convention where RB is replaced with DL for the drop down list or CP for the label. That is, page1RB1 is associated with page1DL1 drop down and page1CP1 label. In this code, what I am trying to do is step through all radio button lists; read the radio button name/ID; use it to set the color and value of the drop down list and label and set Radio Button checked to OK. It is the last part that is not working. the above code handles the drop down list and label perfectly. But for the life of me, I can not get the radio buttons to reset to OK. When I click on the NA, they stay checked.

I have been looking at this code for two evenings now, and rewrote it 4 times already. It started out as jQuery code and now it's just concatenating strings together.
What I'm trying to do: Build a menu/outline using unordered lists from a multidimensional array.
What is happening: Inside the buildMenuHTML function, if I call buildMenuHTML, the for loop only happens once (i.e. only for 'i' having a value of '0'.) If I comment out the call to itself, it goes through the for loop all 3 times, but obviously the submenus are not created.
Here is the test object:
test = [
{
"name" : "Menu 1",
"url" : "menu1.html",
"submenu" : [
[Code].....
'Menu 2' and 'Menu 3' don't show up! I'm sure it's something small that I'm overlooking.

I'm looking to send a loop variable (i) to a function inside the loop, but I can't seem to get it to use the value I want, it keeps making it a reference of i and therefore the function is always called using the last value of i rather than the one it was set with.
So if i have 5 Tabs then Tab 1, when clicked, should call DefaultTabClick(0) and so on rather than always using 4 for any of the tabs.
