View 12 RepliesThere is a slideshow on my website that reads in the address of local images and puts them in a slideshow rotation to be displayed on the page. I currently have to "hard code" the addresses in, similar to the JavaScript below:
However, I want to be able to place images in the Images directory without having to make sure the files are named the same as in the code. I would like JavaScript to go out to a local directory, see what's in there, grab anything in jpeg format (regardless of the name), and put it in the slideshow rotation.
I'm working on a html5/javascript app for android using phonegap. [URL]
My app is going to display the daily item from say [URL]
I want be able to have the new image of the item display once it has changed.
here is site that does something similar in a sense. [URL]
what would be best way to do this in JS and/or Jquery
I know that Picasa does give the facility of exporting images as a slideshow, but their version contains user controls which we don't want and it is also in Flash - our IT dept don't really support Flash!
Anyway, the slideshow I would like to use and the image gallery display using Picasa images that I have already done can be seen on this test page [URL].
The gallery pulls the images from Picasa using the API in the page body:
<script src="http://picasaweb.google.com/data/feed/api/user/cycletheyorkshiredales/album/CycletheDales1?authkey=Gv1sRgCKuzudmF-bC5aA&kind=photo&alt=json-in-script&callback=output&access=all">
</script>
[Code].....
- so that the slideshow can be called using the images from the array called fadeimages.
I'm trying to combine two scripts I found online to make a preloader for all the images in a folder. The javascript part works when you manually enter in a list of images, so I was trying to make a php array to get all the names of the images in one directory, then use that to list them. Here's what I tried:
<?php
function dirList ($directory)
{
[code]...
I have some images 5 or 6 that are 800 x 300 i use in my website banner.The start loading but when number one is 1/3 of the way teh next one starts then the next, it looks real messy nee some way to preload them ... like black square or something .code i used below
<script language="JavaScript">
// configuration structure
var A_TPL = {[code].....
I am not sure this is possible but it seems like it should be. I want to populate a javascript array with all the image files in a dorectory. I want this to be dynamic so that when I add an image to the directory it get included in the array.
Any ideas? I am sure there are many javascript wizards out there who can point me in the right direction.
Looking for a little bit of help. I created a simple script a while back in PHP which reads all the images from a directory and assigns them to an array (reading for loading into a document). Would I be able to do this in JavaScript or does it not have these kind of privileges?

The code:
When I go to the site using FF5 or Safari 5, everything pulls up great. When I try to open the page using FF3.6 or IE8 none of the classes show up, I then up Firebug or IE Developer toolbar and refresh and the xml appears without failing.
How do I retrieve the currently selected option string in a select box instead of the value?
<select id="choices">
<option value="value">String</option>
</select>
Using
$("#choices").val();
returns the value if it's set. if there is no value set, jQuery returns the string instead. I want to retrieve the string while a value is set!
I am a newbee and with the help of you all and google reseach and w3schools I have made the below jQuery Ajax method work fine with my data in xml (all the chapters of a childrens book). Now I am constructing a new page, just sample chapters, and I want to use json and 'get' it the same way as I did with xml. 1. I am hung up a little, firstly, this code below is not getting anything from the chap_0.json which
is in the same directory so not a path problem file, 2. and secondly I am not sure just how different the code below needs to be to use the data from the .json file vs the xml file. If someone can atleast help me get the .json data to come in (problem 1) , I have been struggling with it for several hours now. Here is the working xml code:

I'm trying to implement the datepicker and I have two fields on my form:Birthdate& Lived here since? In my header I have:
[Code]...
When I click on the 1st date field (birthday) it mostly works... I say mostly because it doesn't appear to be pulling in that css as the widget is pretty spread out and has no borders etc. When I click on the 2nd date field (here since?), absolutely nothing happens. Surely this supports multiple date fields on the same form so what am I doing wrong?
How can I dynamically get all files name from a directory?I need to have a directory with pictures, and when I copy new ones, on my website to have them listed inside of a div. If jQuery can't do this, there is otherpossibility

Is it possible to use $.post() with the php file in parent directory or a completely different directory?

Here is the abridged version of the file that I'm using, this is included on all pages of my application.

I'd like to know if there's a possibility to select a random image .. but .. from a directory.
I've seen many posts regarding this subject, but all of them show the procedure once you have the image names inside an array.
I need to know how to select a random image from a directory that's filled with them, like let's say /public/images
I'm trying to use the ajax load() method to load a file from a parent directory, e.g.
$("#divTests").load("../tests.htm");
But that doesn't work. I can load a simple html file from the same directory as my html file or a descendant directory, but not an ancestor directory. Nor can I load from an external server.
Is that just the way it is, or is their a way to accomplish what I'm trying to do?
In the head I have:
<link type="text/css" rel="stylesheet" href="myfirst.css">
<script src="myfirst.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
I have the following in 'myfirst.js' file:
var writastring ="<table width="250" border="2"><tr>
<td>Here is my first script text</td></tr></table>"
I have the following in the myfirst.css:
#ontheleft{position:absolute; left:10px; top:50px; }
In the body of the HTML file directly below the body tag is this:
<div id="ontheleft">
<script language="javascript">
document.write(writastring)
</script>
</div>
My problem is that it writes.......Fanfare........exactly nothing.. nada.
And yes they are all in the same path. Even if I change to this: var writastring="OK! Write this" nothing is written. Even leaving out the Div tags nothing changes.
The purpose of this exercise is to assemble content in the
JS file and then write it in any number of pages.
I'm looking for an expanding/collapsing tree directory type of navigation and was wondering if someone knows of a good one that's out there and available.
What I'm specifically looking for is one that is triggered on the click of a *graphic* that toggles the show/hide. Each text nav item should be hyperlinkable to it's own link/page. So for example (the + and - are the collapse/expand graphics, the dot leader is for some formatting) [code]...

I'm doing my testing on my PC and I'm not running a server (apache or otherwise). Just using it as a simple client. Is that possibly the problem? Or is there something else I'm missing? If that is the problem, is there a workaround?
I have a dropdown menu that is structured by AJAX but some of the options have href values within i.e.
<option>Blank anchor - (Increase size - anchor title) text.php?size=1&pg=index.php</option>
when the second part of the AJAX code is sent using this to retrieve the info:
var tester = document.getElementById('test').value;
var queryString = "?tester=" + tester;
it retrieves as
<option>Blank anchor - (Increase size - anchor title) text.php?size=1</option>
I have this software that returns an array like this:
[{"Id":148,"Text":"excellent","Percentage":18},{"Id":166,"Text":"good","Percentage":25},{"Id":167,"Te xt":"fair","Percentage":30},{"Id":168,"Text":"poor","Percentage":25}]
How can I go about turning it into an array that looks like this (just the last integers)?
[18,25,30,25]
