JQuery :: OnLoad Hide A Few Ms Then Fade In?
Oct 5, 2009
here's another newbie to jQuery. I just watched some tutorials and did a search over here but could not find what I'm looking for. Here's what I want to do. I have a div (#layer1) with some content in it which I want to hide for something like 3000ms and then fade in in about 1400ms. All by itself so not triggered by button actions or anything.
Now I understand that jQuery does not have a real delay command so I have to fake something with maybe the $fadeTo("3000,0") followed by the fadeIn command? Is that the correct way to do it?

Is there any way of fading in some text without using <body onLoad()>?
I need something that works like this
Code:
<html>
<head>
<script language="javascript">
var r = 255;
var g = 255;
var b = 255;
function fade(id) {
document.getElementById(id).style.visibility = "visible";
document.getElementById(id).style.color="rgb(" + r + "," + g + "," + b + ")";
r -= 5
g -= 5
b -= 5
if(r>0)
setTimeout("fade('"+id+"')", 40);
}
function startfade(id) {
window.setTimeout("fade('fade');", 100);
}
</script>
</head>
<body onLoad="startfade('fade');">
<p>
<span id="fade" style="visibility: hidden;">This text needs to fade in 8 seconds after page load!</span><br>
test
</p>
</body></html>
But that doesnt require the body part.

how to properly evaluate a value in a document onLoad. Caveat - I am working on this via a CMS (BusinessObjects), so don't have 100% control over what's passed in to the page.
HTML:
<div id="home_alert"><hr />
<h2>MEMBER ALERT!</h2>
<p><a href="/member-home.htm">LOG IN to read new items!</a></p>

I have several elements that I can perform show hide and fadeIn animations on but I want the action to continue on an endless loop. Is this possible? If it is, are there any cpu usage issues when using a loop?
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function(){
$(".upright").hide(300);
$(".cntrlg").show(300);
$(".cntrlg").hide(300);
$(".cntrmed").show(500);
$(".cntrmed").hide(300);
$(".cntrlg, .lowleftmed").show(100);
$(".cntrlg, .lowleftmed").hide(100);
$(".lowrightmed").show(300);
$(".lowrightmed").hide(300);
$(".cntrmed").show(300);
$(".cntrmed").hide(300);
$(".upright").show(2000);
$("#dai1").fadeIn(3000);
$("#dai2").fadeIn(3000);
$("#dai3").fadeIn(3000);
$("#june1").fadeIn(3000);
$("#june2").fadeIn(3000);
$("#june3").fadeIn(3000);
});
</script>

HI'm working on a website and i was asked to add a fancy fade in effect which after a ton of scourcing the web i managed to find and get to work
function fadein(){var fade=0,
fadein=document.getElementById("Astuces").style,ms=(fadein.opacity==0)?0:1,
pace=setInterval(Fade,30);[code]....
Now for the index page there are multiple images that i want to have fade in one after another. What i did was copy the above code a 5 times and change the function names. It worked like a charm in both Chrome and Firefox however IE as usual is being a partypooper. it appears that IE does can not handle multiple "window.onload" which causes only the first image to slowly fade in.Here is my current code, how can i make it IE competable?
function fadein(){var fade=0,
fadein=document.getElementById("Astuces").style,ms=(fadein.opacity==0)?0:1,
pace=setInterval(Fade,30);[code]....

The ones I find on Google all consist of white backgrounds that fade out to reveal an image... What I have at the moment are thumbnails that have hide/show div behaviors... But they look really boring at the moment and make my site boring... How I could make a png (a thumbnail border) fade in on the thumbnail whenever the mouse goes over it...

I have loaded DIVs that by default should be hidden as the page loads. The problem is that the content is visible while it is loading and after it has finished loading, the DIVs set themselves as hidden. Is there a way to set this script so that the content is not visible for those first few seconds?

This is a really awesome script that I'm sure all of you can put to use if you haven't yet heard of it. However, I'm trying to get it to fade a background image on my css styled navigation for my a:hover. Here is the script with a little simple tutorial on how to set it up: [URL] My only other knowledge is in PHP, so after about 2 hours of fail in this client-side language
This is the link to my site so far: [URL] You can see the script working as it is on my little yellow MW logo on the right side of the navigation. So in my scenario, I am looking to fade button.png to button-hover.png (both repeating on the x axis).

I have a gallery style page with rectangular images on laid out like a grid of nine. When the user looks at the page there is just the images and no information, but when they hover over the image I would like some text and a bar underneath to show up over the top so the user can read some information.my images sit in "a" tags. There is also a div tag in there which has it's z-index and position (absolute) set up so that it sits over the top of the image element in the "a" tag. stripped down e.g.
<a href="#"><img.... /><div>the info</div></a>
I need the div tag withinin the "a" tag to be set to 0 opacity. When the user hovers over the image the div tag slowly fades in to 100% opacity. Once the user moves the mouse away from the image the div tag slowly disappears again.I need each one to work independently so that it only changes the one currently being hovered over.

I'm having problems with my text appearing aliased and turning blue when it fades in and out. I've tried using the Newsticker plugin and the Easyticker plugin, and I'm getting the same result in IE7 and Firefox 3.6. I'm using jQuery 1.2.6-min Specifying a background color doesn't fix it. The examples on the plugin websites look fine, but when I try and implement the effect myself, my orange text becomes aliased and fades to a light blue color before dipping to white. Same thing happens on the fade in. attached is a screenshot of what I'm seeing.

I found this script for a navigation fade-in/fade-out and I want to modify it so it'll only trigger the fade-in/fade-out functions of the span class is NOT set to active. Here is the javascript:
Code:
$(function() {
$("#nav ul#menu li span.active").css("opacity","1");
$("#nav ul#menu li span.active").hover("opacity","1");[code].....
It's the part of the code beneath the comment CONDITIONALS BELOW that I want to be able to only trigger it if span is not set to class .active.

Simple question really. The cross fade option used by default with cycle is not a linear one...it looks like it uses some kind of S curve because during the crossfade animation the background (meaning the area behind the images being cross-faded) becomes visible. Example screenshot taken mid-transition. The pink should never be visible behind the grey, but it is:
[Code]...
at the moment, which is leading to background visibility. Is there another fx option I should be using?

I wander what gets loaded the fastest (1-2 or 3) in what succession:
<head>
<script type="text/javascript">
function andAction() {
// doing stuff
}
</script>
</head>
<body onload="andAction();">
<script type="text/javascript">andAction()</script></body>
just in the head and nothing more
This I am sure off:
<head>
<script type="text/javascript">
window.onload = function andAction() {
// doing stuff
}
</script>
</head>
<script type="text/javascript">andAction()</script></body>
just in the head and nothing more (should be 1)
Third and last which is faster:
body onload or window.onload

I'm learning javascript, and was wondering if it was Possible to have buttons/links that you click, the whole page fades out, and then fade's in, with different stuff. here are my ideas for just changing the stuff
Text: 1. having a javascript src file to start, and then when the button is clicked, that is formatted to white, the text layer is moved down, and a new javascript file is loaded?

I'm seeing a difference in behaviour between
window.onload = f();
and
<body onload="f();">
Specifically, window.onload appears to fire before all the elements of
the page have been rendered. As the difference is consistent across
IE/Moz/Opera, I'm assuming it's deliberate - can anyone point me
towards where this behaviour of window.onload is defined in the
documentation? TIA. Code:

jquery:
$(document).ready(function(){
var config = {
sensitivity: 8, // number = sensitivity threshold (must be 1 or higher)

Now do try to do the same in IE (6.0). The images don't fade into each
other. Instead, they hesitate, which is annoying, and then jump from
one image to the other, suddenly, with no fade.
Can anyone tell me why that is? Does IE not recognize opacity?
