JQuery :: $().load Not Working In Safari?
Nov 10, 2010
i'm new to jquery and javascript and am self taught (so i am always new to everything!!). my concept is to keep a web page side bar and header and to use menu items ( on click and load) to place pages into my main div. I have done that with images on the first loaded page...then if you click on the images another page gets loaded into the same div this works in ie, chrome and firefox...but not in safari.i don't know if i have a code problem, i have placed my javascriptin the wrong areaor it just is not possible..

I'm using Fancy Form Slider and love it. In firefox, it's working great. In Safari, its not so hot. Check it out:[URL].. It renders fine in both, but the animation is acting REALLY weird in safari.
I've used alerts to see if its using the correct data, and it is. Both the "current" and the new marginLeft are properly being set (in fact, it IS being set in safari, because when i inspect the element, it has the right margin-left data thats being alerted. There's no errors being thrown into the error console, either.

My website has a JQuery dialog with a textarea where the user can type a text and submit. The submit is an ajax request to the server.
This is the code:
I can see the request on Firebug, so I added and error_log to my code.
The ajax request works perfectly on Firefox, Chrome and IE on PCs, but it does not work on Mac.

I am having an odd error where the pager generates links but they don't change the slide in FF and Safari. The biggest surprise of all is that it actually works in IE. Here is the page I am referring to: http://76.12.208.222/

I am currently learning jQuery from the book Learning jQuery 1.3 and I have run across a block of code that is not working for me in FF or Safari.
Here it is copied straight from the book (page 64)
I tested the next step that accomplishes the same thing with different code but I would like to understand why this is not working.

I am looking for a solution for many days: my callback - function works well in firefox 5, IE8, but not in safari, opera, IE7 etc. The function "checken" is not executed. There are no error messages in the debugger of safari or IE7.
var session_id = $.cookie("fe_typo_user");
function checken (nummer){
var elem = "#img" + nummer;
$(elem).attr('checked',true); }
var url = "refreshCheckboxes.php?id=" + session_id;
$.getJSON(url,function(data){
$.each(data.posts, function(i,data){
checken (data.number);
}); });
The response of the script:
{"posts": [{"number":"1325"},{"number":"1303"},{"number":"1302"}]}
html (example):
<input
type="checkbox"
id="img1325"
class="merkzettel"
name="merkzettel1325"
value="img_1325.jpg"
/>
You can test it here: [URL]. Activate some checkboxes, load another site and then go back to this site and the checkboxes you have selected, must be activated by the script.

Here is the code snippet. the var url is undefined in some browsers.
$.ajax({
url: "rss.php",
cache: false,
success: function(rss){

This works fine in IE and Firefox. But Google Chrome and Safari fails.
Using an rss plugin produces the same error, so it seems to be with jQuery.

I am not a guru jquery coder and still have to learn alot, recently while learning jquery AJAX I have bumped into a weired issue, I have a apge right and in this page I have a dropdown list for people to select an RSS channel that they wish to know more about, the dropdownlist ahs an onChange event which when triggered it will get the value of the selected item in teh dropdownlist and post it to the other 'mini' pages that load on the same page via AJAX by using the GET method - ie: im passing the parameters like a normal querystring would. The problem is that when I assign the dropdown value to a variable called dropdown in the following line of code "var dropdown =document.getElementById('ddlChannelSelect');" it works in IE but not in the other browsers, I have debbugged this in FireBug and it seems that the variable dropdownlist is not actually getting the value of the actual dropdownlist nad it says 'null' or sometimes 'undefined'. Am I doing something wrong ? why is it that it is working in IE but not in other browsers ? can you pls give me a solution with some examples ?

I am using jquery to do two things: - load a modal popup which loads an html page (I'm using facebox) - in the modal popup, I have before/after states of the image, which is handled by a little jquery code
In FF and IE everything works correctly. In Safari and Chrome, the modal popup works, but once the popup loads, the before/after states of the image does not work. I can't seem to find a solution to this.
I am loading jquery on the home page (index.html) but I do not have it being loaded in the modal popup html pages. Is that the problem?
I have a link to show this, but am unable to post it due to my new membership status. You can PM me for the link.
Here is the before/after image state code:
Code JavaScript:
origImage=null;
$(function() {
$("#myImage").hover(function() {

I want to load an image with JS within the form event "onsubmit" without stipping the submit action of the form.
What I do is the following:
var img = new Image();
img.onload = function(){
myfunction();
};
[Code]....
This logic is a MUST for me, I mean I don't want to use settimeout to postpone the form submit, and I have to call the URL_FOR_PHP_SCRIPT_TO_DO_SOME_LOGIC this way since this code is on a JS file from different domain. This logic works fine on all browsers, and the request to call the image is sent -which is what exactly I need-, however on safari it doesn't call the image request, and start posting the form directly. I tried to add an "onunload" event on the page containing the form when the browsers is safari, but this didn't help too, and the form still submitting data directly without starting sending the request to load the image.

I have a site which displays a selection of advert listings. We log the number of clicks each advert receives via ajax requests.The listings link to both internal pages on our site and external pages, hence the ajax - we cannot log the'clicks' by logging the requests on the destination pages as these are not all on our site for us to log. Also, I don't want to potentially get false positives e.g.from bookmarked pages - hence I am logging the actual clicks, not the requests on the destination.
All is OK in most browsers, but there is a problem with Safari (I am running Safari 4.0 on Windows XP running in Virtualbox OSE) but only where the destination is to open in the same window/tab (some listings go to a new window, some don't). I am logging clicks via an ajax request in the onclick event, which is working fine when the listing is to open in a new window, but it appears that when a new window is not to be opened, the ajax never gets sent.A have constructed the following minimal test case:
index.html
Code:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" [code].....
Note the line commented '****' in index.html which cancels the action of the link. When this is not commented out, the ajax request is sent correctly. Without it (the desired situation) the ajax request never gets sent. Its as if Safari saves up the ajax requests to do later, but never sends them as the new page cancels all such 'saved up' actions.I am using the Safari web developer tools, but I have also checked this test case by checking the Apache logs. Note that as a test case I don't pretend that it will work in IE, but it should work in standards compliant browsers and has been tested on Firefox 3.6.6 and Opera 10.6. The Apache logs show that logger.txt is being requested, unless it is already in the browser cache.Possible workarounds I've considered, but would prefer to avoid:
On the site in question the only such links that currently open in the same window are internal, so I do have the option of logging safari clicks by logging these requests as opposed to clicks and checking the http referer on the server side. As this is not a very flexible solution as it relies on these specific circumstances, also relies on all other links successfully making a new window, and furthermore relying on http referer could result in false negatives I'd rather find a solution within the javascript.I haven't checked whether an asynchonous request would work, but I don't wish to do this anyway just in case there is ever a server problem that prevents the response coming back (note that for these purposes the response is actually superfluous - we are sending the server a message but don't need anything back). I also want to avoid the delay in sending the user to the destination - there is no point having to wait for a response we don't need.Lastly, and my prefered workaround unless I can find anything better, is to make Safari (only) open all links in a new window anyway.

I'm using the quite exceptionally used grayscale.js javascript library, which has the power to change entire web elements into grayscale. More info on this javascript plugin can be found here: [URL] I've got it to work on document ready (jquery call), the script is activated on wordpress generated thumbnails. This works excellent in all browsers except for safari The problem with safari seems to be that it does not load the images correctly before greyscaling them. After hovering them, the (color) images are loaded, and then when removing your mouse it grayscales like it should on page load. For all clearness, i'm using the following script:
