JQuery :: Create An Element Dynamically?
Jan 8, 2010
i'm sorry if this question has already been asked, but I searched for the term 'create element' on the jQuery Google Groups and didn't find the answer. I basically want to create html dynamically and be able to add it to my webpage. Suppose I have the following html:

I'm using three elements and jQuery to create a scrollable information element with a sliding animation (similar to this. I'm running into issues when resetting those three elements to prepare for the next prev/next animation, however. The issue is in my logic - jQuery's selectors will reverse themselves using the code I have.
Javascript Code:
Original - javascript Code
$('#name.current').removeClass('current').addClass('prev');
$('#name.next').removeClass('next').addClass('current');
$('#name.prev').removeClass('prev').addClass('next');
$('#name.current').removeClass('current').addClass('prev');$('#name.next').removeClass('next').addClass('current');$('#name.prev').removeClass('prev').addClass('next');
As you can see, the last step will always reverse the first step These elements do need to be reset in one way or another so that the information can be loaded appropriately (from an XML file). and then animated again.

I have a page with a button and a container. When i click on the button, it should redirect to a page where we can create a new customer. On the new customer form ,I have textboxes, radio buttons ,buttons amongst others.What i wanna do is that instead of redirecting to that page. I wanna dynamically create a div with all the controls required in the Container i have on my page itself. So each time the user click the Add New Customer button, on the same page, the textboxes and all other controls is created dynamically.

I'm trying to create an unordered list dynamically and then turn it into jQuery UI tabs... I think I'm having problem with syntax here, I managed to create the list and turn it into the widget, but those tabs don't look right, they have the outline of the widget but the content doesn't have actual tabs, so my guess is it only 'kind of worked'
$
(
"#doc3"
).
append
[Code].....
is this the way to do it? (for now its just the test, eventually i want to use for loop to create the list and pull data from an array)

I have a form where a user enters a number in a text box (txtTickets). When that number is entered, I need to create an equal number of select boxes. I've found code examples which show how to dynamically add or delete options from a select box, but I have found no examples which deal with this specific scenario. The select options do not depend on user input -- that is, I do not need to populate it dynamically. I need to create them dynamically. Has anyone created something similar to this?

I am trying to create portlets that dynamically load their content (usinq jQuery). My first approach was to leave the header + footer + decorations of the portlet OUTSIDE of the dynamically loadable content. It worked just fine but I had to abandon that approach so that I could use the same code both for statically- and dynamically-loaded content (e.g. when no AJAX support was available). So far so good.
Now to my problem: I use the following code for loading my dynamic content
The loading works fine, but after the dynamic content has been loaded I can not seem to get access to it using jQuery!
Short description: Line 3 clears the content (I know! There are better solutions!) Line 4 loads the content Line 6 dumps the data on the console; this is for debuging only, so that I can establish that the correct content is loaded
After the data is properly loaded I did expect to be able to find it by traversing the DOM tree in traditional jQuery fashion (like in Line 10). However, dumping the contents of the 'tag' shows it containing no content at all; it is empty even though the browser renders the expected new result. I thought: Well! The browser holds two copies of the DOM tree; one that is the original page and one that is the modified content used for rendering". Therefore I attempted to manipulate the loaded content within the function (Line 8). The content is visible there, that I have established in Line 6. But I do not know how to access it jQuery-style.
(Why am I trying to modify the loaded content? I want to inject a title row with various decorations and clickable content.)

hi everybody, didn't find this using the search :( this is my problem:
i create a dom element dynamically (<span>) and want to assign a class
attribute to it such that it has some css style, this works in ie, but
not in firefox :( here's the simple code:
<div id="somediv"></div>
var div = window.document.getElementById("somediv");
var span = window.document.createElement("span");
span.innerHTML = "span";
span.attributes.getNamedItem("class").nodeValue = "span_class";
div.appendChild(span);
so this works well in ie6, but firefox gives this error:
Error: span.attributes.getNamedItem("class") has no properties
if i run this code on a statically defined span (in the html file),
where a class attribute already is set:
<div id="somediv">
<span id="spanspan" class="">
</span>
</div>
changing the class to "span_class" works both in ie and firefox.
how can i fix my above code such that it works in both browsers? it
seems that on newly created dom elements the class attribute isn't even
there (to change it), how can i create it, and then change it?

I've found a few posts on adding an event to a dynamic element, but that doesn't really help me. What I'm doing is allowing the user to add a textbox, then when a button is clicked i need to find the value for that text box, but it doesn't seem to pick up that the textbox is there.
Oh and that textbox is part of an array of textboxes, all of whose values i need.

I have the following html:
<div id = "container"></div>
<div id = 'containerItemTmplt' class = "ui-widget-content">
<div class='contentHdr' onclick="test(this)" />
</div>
i then use jquery to clone 'containerItemTmplt' and add it to 'container':
var copiedElem = $('#containerItemTmplt').clone(true).
.attr('id', 'paneI1')
.appendTo('#container');
This works great and i confirm using I.E. 9's developer's tool utility that the element was indeed added with the correct id as a child of 'container'.
However in my test method, when i inspect the element that was copied, the id attribute is an empty string:
function test(elem)
{
var parentItem= $(elem).closest('div')[0];
alert(parentItem.id); //<--this displays an empty string despite
}

I can't figure out how to coax JQuery in to selecting an element that is manually (dynamically) inserted in to the DOM after the page loads. For example:
If I have HTML:
<div id="bar">
World!
</div>
Then I create a new element and insert it in to DOM:
var foo = '<div id="foo">Hello</div>';
$("#bar").before($(foo));
I end up with this, which is great:
<div id="foo">Hello</div>
<div id="bar">
World!
</div>
Now that's very nice, but later on I might want to do something different with the element I inserted, using JQuery to manipulate that new element. But if I try to do:
myHappyEl = $("#foo");
Then myHappyEl will be undefined. JQuery doesn't see it, presumably because it go attached after JQuery was done watching for such things. How I can coax JQuery in to noticing the existence of new elements created not only in exactly the manner shown here, but in general after the DOM has fully loaded.
I've seen lots of suggestions addressing a possibly related but subtly different issue, wherein the solution is to use .live() to attach an event listener when an element comes in to being. That would be brilliant if I wanted to capture a click event or something, but I don't; I want to be able to select the dynamically added element(s). Perhaps there's a simple way to accomplish this using live(), but I haven't seen it yet. If there is a solution using live then I'd like to know what event and what function to trigger!

I am new to query. So far I have found this a huge improvement on coding all this stuff myself. I want to create a button which will add a new div element to the html page. I can do this in php however I want to know if there is a simple way of doing it in query and where I would look to find the documentation and examples of this function.

In my application I render a couple of elements dynamically after the user selects an option in a dropdown list. When the user selects another option in the dropdown, I want to remove all the previous elements that was added dynamically. I've tried with the .Remove() function, but it seems the elements cannot be found in the DOM. I've looked a lot at the .live() events. Does anyone now how I can solve this?

I'm trying to allow a user to add several data items. I'm using append to add a new row where they can enter data. However, the element count only seems to get to one (the newest added) and does not create an array of elements like i was hoping.
[Code]...
In the above, i can successfully add new rows. But the item "the-data" will always alert that it has a length of 1, no matter how many rows are added. how I can add several of an element with the same name and have it recognized in the DOM?
