JQuery :: Change Event On A Select Field When The SelectedIndex Or Val Is Set?
Nov 1, 2010
Is it possible to trigger a change event on a select field when the selectedIndex or val is set with jQuery? I've tried it and it doesn't seem to work. I'm attempting to replace a select field with one of my own design. The issue is if i attached a change event to a select field, when the index is changed it needs to fire that event. Basically if a select field is replaced with my list and a seperate script is set on the select list, I need that seperate script to fire without knowing what it is.
I am trying to figure out if there is a way to get the selectedIndex of a select by its value, without going through a loop to check for it.
I know the value of a select, and I want to make the option be selected. But I don't know the selectedIndex. Was hoping to do it without going through a loop to determine the selectedIndex
I'm using selectedIndex to change an option in a listbox, but I'm finding that the onChange event doesn't fire unless I manually make a selection. Is there any way to effect the change by JS so that the event works?
why does this work under FF and only ONCE in IE but the problem remains the same as the firefox only code crashed IE's javascript.so it works only once still.SOLUTION -> changed event from onchange to onclick for my checkbox calling that function !
I'm using jquery autocomplete to fill a textbox with some text but I need to get the ID of the item too. For this purpose I thought to use the on select event to fill an hidden field the problem is that the on select event is never fired.
I'm currently having a problem with getting a change event to fire when changing the values of a select box. I've put together the sample code below to show what I mean.
In IE only, the change event on a select does not seem to fire if the change is made by typing on the keyboard instead of clicking with the mouse. However, when the focus leaves the field, the event fires.
I have a two level dependent select function, when level 1 changed, level 2 will change content with level 1, level 2 only change when level 1 "changed", if I use javascript to change the level1 value, level 2 won't change,for exaplme:
$('#level1').val(3);
the level 1 select will change to the option which value is 3, but it won't trigger the change event, therefore level 2 does not change anything, how to change level 1 by and trigger change event.
I've got this weird label re-writing issue with my change event which I'm using to reset a fields value if the user isn't entering a valid number.The label I'm having written is re-writing itself in a loop like fashion but it looks tied to the opacity change - I think?
Code JavaScript:
$('.amt, .wmn_amt').change(function(){ //make sure the user has entered a real number if (this.value == '' || /[^d.]/g.test(this.value)){
I have a <select> object that i've set up an onchange event that fires in IE fine when I use the cursor up and down in the list, but If I use the cursor up and down in Firefox the event doesn't seem to fire until I've left the field....If i use the mouse all is fine, only when using the cursor keys does it not fire the onchange event in FF.
I am having a bit of trouble with a change event. I am trying to make a simple address book that will allow you to add or modify contacts. This is a piece of the code that I am working on.The script runs without error and initializes the form. The click events for the buttons work correctly, but the change event for the select box will not fire. I have been searching for an answer and cannot find one.
var init = function () { var selectCell = document.getElementById("select-box-cell");
$(function(){ $('input').bind('keypress',null,b).bind('change',null,a); }); function a(){
[Code].....
this script bind both keypress and change of the text box to functions b and a. at keypress event handler if user type a char on input box the value of input box change to x and the user char discarded. In this case we expected to run the onchange (change) event because the textbox value is changed BUT this doesn't happen.
I have a php function that list all of the countries from my database as a select option, then based on what the user selects for their country im using jquery to make an ajax call and get all of the states/regions for that country. This part works fine. I'm running into an issues, as when a user login's in to edit their profile, how would I make the select change based on what is in the databse.
This is my sample code so far. Currently it only works for "Akali" under the "Select a champion..." dropdown list.
The way it works is, you select a level from 1-10 from the "Select a level..." dropdown list, and then you select Akali from the other dropdown list and her "Health" is calculated by "lvl * 80 + 510" which works perfectly. But the problem is if you change the level that value does not update automaticly. Instead the person using it has change the level to the new level they desire, change the champion and change it back again for it to update. Which normally would be ok, but I will be adding much, much more data to the page and I can't ask people to have to update stuff 10 times just to get accurate figures.
I took this from the w3schools jQuery tutorial and built a button, so ignore the way it currently works. I guessed that with a button it would when pressed it would take the latest, aka current selectedIndex values and all would work fine, and it does actually. But I just wanted to ask if there was any way to keep all the information updated at all times without a button, or maybe a button that will update everything on the website with just one click?
This is what I'm trying to do:When a user selects a group in the first SELECT box, another SELECTbox should be loaded from an external PHP-file (using MySQL), based onthe group-id of the first SELECT box.I use this code:
what i want to do is have a selection from 'tst' trigger an input into 'choose' from the data inputted into the 'fname' and 'lname' fields. for example, i want option '1', when selected to draw the input from 'fname' and place it into 'choose'or i might want to select the data in 'lname' instead, so i will tie option 2 to it, so when the user selects option 2 the contents of 'lname' go into 'choose' instead.
I have one select, I can say wich element is selected:
<select name="myselect"> <option value="100">A</option> <option value="101">B</option> <option value="102">C</option> </select> this line will select the option B
myselect.options.selectedIndex = 1; but, how can I do if I want to select the option B without knowing it´s position? I mean, I want to select the option B and the value 101, but I don´t know it´s position
I am using IE5 and have a select-box with options that have different colors. Is there a way to read out the style attribute of the selectedIndex (here: color)? See simple demo script here under...
