So essentially what I'm trying to is put an image inside all my td's that have "opinionAxis" as their id. The image has to be equal to the value in the title attribute in addition to the sub folder and file type. How do I access the current item's attributes?

I am currently making the first steps with jQuery and it went quite fine so far but now I am stuck. My servlet provides an ArrayList of java objects and I need to access some of the attributes of the objects.
So, there are 2 things which I don't know how to implement.
1. Iterate over the ArrayList
2. Access the attributes
I make use of new HTML5 data attributes to attach data to DOM elements like so:<div class="foo" data-randomdata="bar">jQuery is awesome.</div> It would be nice to have a specific method to accessing the attributes without having to use the .attr() method like this: var foo = $('div').attr('data-randomdata'); It would be nice for it to work something like this: var foo = $('div').DOMdata('randomdata'); //equals bar

However, this returns -1 for all selectors I pass to it in the variable. Why is this? Is there another way to find a div's position within its container easily?
I have an image gallery where every image has an index number ("data-index"). How do I access that index number when the image is "current" and then add +1 when it's "next" or subtract -1 when it's "previous"? Below is part of my code.

I have used the feature of setting a class on the current menu item so that it will be highlighted (highlit?). The trouble is that if the menu item has a submenu this submenu is displaying already opened when you hit the page.
I've set the menus up with the following options:

I would like to change this so that the class is removed from the item I have just moused out of instead of specifying the exact item. This is so I can use this function for multiple items. I tried replacing the '.bar8' with 'this' but it didn't work.
I've created the simple select box below that will "onchange" when an item is selected. I'm trying to apply the "selected" or "selected="selected" attribute to items that are chosen from the menu. Example: The goal is to show " <option value="/1" selected="selected"> " when page "/1" is chosen and to show <option value="/1"> when /1 is not the current page. I've follow a few simple tutorials with no luck and even tried php conditionals to trigger the "selected" attribute with no luck.

I have a small script which adds a class to the current menu item selected.
Currently on the page load (this menu is within one page) the first menu item which is loaded does not have this .mywork_active class. Its not until you click it or another item that the class is added.
What would I need to do make the script add this class to the first item on load.

the first function(start: function ..) displays an attribute (title) of the dragged item once the sorting starts. supposedly, the second function (stop: function ..) would display the same attribute but of the item replaced by the dragged item once the sorting stops.

i have a Drop down list with 10 choices (skillset). users must choose one skillset and the corresponding level (beginer/intermediate/master). ( they have to do this 10 times for all the sillsets) what i want is :

I have a suggestion based on the assumption, which I think is correct but feel free to prove me wrong, that the .attr() method returns "undefined" in two different cases:1) when the attribute is actually not present in the dom element2) when it is present but it has no value, think for example <input type="text" disabled/> which I not is not standard HTML but I've seen it pretty often...wouldn't it be better to return undefined only in the first case, and return null in the second case? In this way, it'd be clear that the attribute is set but no value is specified.
