JQuery :: Using .ajax On An External XML?
Oct 14, 2010
Been using jQuery for a while now and I'm sure I'm not using it to it's full potential. I have been enjoying GalleryView and recently updated to 2.0. I now wish to run an externally generated XML script which will be used to build a GalleryView implementation using the data in the XML as the foundation for the gallery. Currently the test page I have written works fine with a locally stored XML: Test Page (local XML)
However when I run the same page but with an external XML I get the following: External test Page
So if anyone can shed some light on how to do this I would be very grateful.

I've used a few jquery things before, but I haven't a clue when it comes to javascript, so I've mainly just modified variables here and there. This is my first attempt at actually writing something, and well.....its not working
Im trying to send an ajax post to an external file, which simply returns 'Complete' after updating the db. My html gives me an ul, with li elemnts, representing names of comics.
Anyway heres my code:

This is my first message and I am extremely new to jQuery. I am using Ajax to call external html pages into a div in my site. I have three external html forms which uses JavaScript and one .file. When I call these pages, the html pages are being rendered correctly but the JavaScript and .pl file (form post) is not being executed. Any ideas on how to resolve?

I created a page (index.html, including the embedded javascript) with a div loaded by an external html content. But in this new content the click function I defined in the index.html page does not work in the new content. Then my question is: do i need to include all javascript in the external html content?

I have an ajax based page, which loads content from external page (html +js) So if i have a div "update_div" being updated with external content (html+js)
Let me be more specifig
Step1: Ajax content along with js loaded into update_div from a.html
Step2: Ajax content along with js loaded into update_div from b.html
What happens to the js loaded from a.html? Is it lurking in the memory or automatically/magically removed from the browser memory? I am afraid of memory leaks, if the js is still lurking in memory, the more ajax calls made, the more js is going to be held up in memory. Unless am totally wrong; i have no idea of the mechanism happening.

I have a page with some links and a div. When I click on one of those link I want it to load HTML into the empty div on that page. The HTML I want to load is on a different page (in the same dir). The different information that each link has to link has been divided into div on that source page.
I'm so far able to load the entire page in my div, but I just want the contents of one of the specific divs, depending on what link I click.
I got this far with the help from Google and a book but I'm stuck now.
This is the function I use to get the content.
Code:
function sendRequest(scriptFile, targetElement)
{
target = targetElement;
try{
[Code]....
sources.html is the source-page and details is the name from the target div where the content gets loaded into. Remember; this works but I want to specify divs instead of the entire page.

I have used AJAX lots before and I wondered if it was possible to set variables from an AJAX file E.g. an ajax file could set
var set1 = 10;
var set2 = 55;
with both variables coming from an external file called by AJAX. Which JS side perform the request and the format of the file that is requested.

I have a parent page say index.html on which I have a div. Now, I want to load some content from the child page (external page) say inner.html into the div on parent page. As far as I have worked on it I found that I can do this via ajax using "obj.responseText" but I am not hitting the right point.

I am implementing Ajax for a new website and I've run into a hurdle.
It seems like Javascript does not 'see' any div elements that are loaded from external file with Ajax.
Is this a common issue, and is there a solution? Or am I overlooking something obvious?
What I'm doing is loading a simple external page via Ajax. The pages loads just fine, and it contains div's with unique id's. If I execute a Javascript function, it seems to not recognize these newly-rendered div's from the Ajax external file. Is this the case? Can Javascript be re-invoked on command, so it can see the new div's?

I need to submit the contents of a textfield to a PHP page.It is working on a <select> tag using the <option> tags to send the contents of the <option> tag to the outside PHP file, but I can't get the syntax right to send the contents of the textfield.

//-----10% Off Coupon-----
if (coupon=="N110"){
form.PRICE.value=-(moneyFormat(fTotal * .10)-1);
form.ID_NUM.value="N110";
form.NAME.value=" Craft Month Promo 10% Off";
location.href=location.href;
return true;
}
I want to replace the .10 with an external peice of data, so users can change the amount with having to open the script. Sorta like those early marquees' where the marquee text was inserted from a text file.

//Access HTML element and append external js 2 (ext2.js) here--->I donno how to add external JS here.
Even if i add the external JS here, the JS uses document.write fn. which replaces entire page.

jquery provides ajaxStart() and ajaxStop() events. Those two events do not seem to be triggered if the ajax requests are made by Microsoft Ajax tool Kit (from ASP.Net code). Is there any way to bridge those two event models? If not currently possible, is there any future initiative or plan out there to make this happen?

Does anyone know if it is possible to control UI tabs from an external URL, is this possible?
For example, right now, the ui-tabs-nav list of anchors correspond to the divs automatically. I would like to make the tabs' navigation controllable from a separate draggable modal or popup window so I can drag it to a second monitor and use the main screen on GoToMeeting, to switch tab panels almost like Powerpoint (but more useful.) In advance I want to preempt suggestions that I do something different entirely, like simply make the browser window span two monitors, etc. Easy idea but doesn't work; I've tried it.

How to link an external JQuery file to my web page. I understand using <script src=""/>. My question is regarding the file I downloaded from Jquery.com. Do I add code to that file and link it, or do I link that file and then create a new file with javascript in it and link that as well? Do I create a javascript file and somehow link the Jquery file to that javascript file? how to set up Jquery using all external files.

I'm trying to link to a jQuery tab (the second tab) from an external source and havent had much luck so far. I found this on the jQuery UI demo's page:
...select a tab from a text link instead of clicking a tab itselfvar $tabs = $('#example').tabs(); // first tab selected $('#my-text-link').click(function() { // bind click event to link $tabs.tabs('select', 2); // switch to third tab return false;
});
But cant figure out what I should be putting in "#my-text-link
", what is itreferringtoo?
My second tab is called '#tabs-2' so I assume that's what I place into'#example'
?

I'm using the following JQuery Popup code to make smooth popups: [URL]
I was wondering how I can use use this to load external pages into the popup?
So instead of having a hidden <div> in the page, there would be some sort of empty <div (<div id='this'></div>). The when I click a link, an external page would be loaded into this empty.
So it would function just as it does in the above tutorial, expect the popup content would be coming from an another page, not within the page

Im loading a div of an external html (#right_in) into a div (#right) in my main movie this way:
var toLoad = divobj.id+'.html #right_in';
function loadContent() {
$('#right').load(toLoad);
showNewContent();
[Code]....
Is it possible to specify that the DIV has to load always at y=0, ie from the top? Because when I load another external div into my main div firefox keeps the latest position (if I scrolled before it loads the new page at that point).

I am trying to refresh the contents of a division without refreshing the entire page when a button is clicked.I have tried
$("#close_add_event").click(function(html){
$("#add_event_div").fadeOut(600);
$("#contents_inner").html(html);
});
I have also tried
$("#close_add_event").click(function(html){
$("#add_event_div").fadeOut(600);
$("#contents_inner").replaceWith($('#contents_inner', $(html)));
});
But all this does is clear the contents of the div. Most of the tutorials I have found are refreshing a div with external contents.
