In an HTML5 document I have a form code...
At the bottom of the form, I have a submit button that calls Javascript validation code...
Result: Error: document.ContactForm.submit is not a function
If I place a page from another site in this site and modify it as needed to work with the cgi document, everything works. Then I can copy the validation code that worked into the HTML5 page and it fails.
The only difference I can see is that one page is XHTML Transitional and the other is HTML5 so apparently there's a trick I don't yet know about using Javascript and HTML5.

I have a dropdown menu and i want it to be populated based on certain values of other dropdown menus. I'm therefore using ajax to send the values of the other form elements to the server based on the onchange event of the other dropdown menus. I have written a function in my js file that sends the values to the server using ajax and the request is sent to the same page (php file) that is supposed to receive and use the values. Thus a portion of the page sends the request to itself and another is supposed to receive the values of the request ad use them. I realize the values don't get sent at all and the onreadystatechange function returns the html and js content of this php page as its response text.
Here is the code for the js file
function fac_sem_lev(fac_arg,sem_arg,lev_arg)
{
get the selected indices to be used to find the selected items
var f=document.getElementById(fac_arg).selectedIndex;
var s=document.getElementById(sem_arg).selectedIndex;
[Code].....

Why this submit event is not executing? It works fine if I change it to a "click" event and serialize the submit buttons parent form but I'd like to know why wont this work?
[code]
$(dialog).delegate("form#stayplanselect", "submit", function(event) {
event.preventDefault();
$.post("/admin/viewer/rates", $(this).serialize(), processResponse);
});
[/code]

I've attached a text file that includes a form and its associated jQuery code.Before I removed the action and post from the form (as commented in the code), the form worked fine using either submit button. But now the page only refreshes - the alert in the jQuery click event doesn't fire.

I'm a jquery newbie and am trying to use it in a simple web application. This application has a controller servlet that forwards the request to a 'login.jsp' page by default. In the login.jsp page, I used Jquery for the hover effect on the submit button. It works absolutely fine if change the extension of the file to html. If it is changed back to jsp, it the javascript is not working. I see the following error in Firebug console:
Syntax Error
[Break on this error] <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"
"
***Please see the attachments for the login.jsp and login.js files.***
I have the files 'login.jsp', 'login.js', 'jquery-1.3.2.min.js' under the webapps/QT/jsp/ folder.

I have the following bit of jQuery:
Code:
$("#save_photos_all_continue").click(function() {
event.preventDefault();
var $black_white_all = $("#black_white_all").is(':checked');
var $color_all = $("#color_all").is(':checked');
var $other_all = $("#other_all").is(':checked');
[Code]...
In Google Chrome it works fine but in Mozilla/5.0 it actually goes to the save_edits page instead of just using the post and staying on the original page.

I have this boiled down to the following code: [URL]. I have two text inputs in a form, and a keydown handler to catch the arrow keys. When the focus is lost on an input, it is supposed to call the submit handler on the form. When I use the tab key, it works as expected, and calls my submit handler. However, when I use the arrow keys, it submits the form and goes to the action url, not running the alert in my custom submit handler. It's as if it either loses the bound submit handler or it calls a new default one or something.

I'm using the submit and ajax functions to check a form. When the form is submitted the submit event executes and within that event the data (a code the user has to fill in) is sent to the server to check if it's correct. If it is correct, the submit event supposes to return true (so the form submits), if it's incorrect the submit event supposes to return false (so submitting the form cancels).
Here's my code that should do this:
$(function(){
var submit = false;
$('#login').submit(function(){
$('span.error').fadeOut('slow');
$.ajax({
url: '/ajax/login',
type: 'POST',
data: 'code=' + $('#code').val(),
success: function(response){
if (response != ''){
$('span.error').fadeIn('slow').text(response);
submit = false;
}else{
submit = true;
}}})
return submit;
})});
But here's the problem: While jQuery does the ajax request, the script continues. So it will return false - even if the code is validated - because the var submit has been set to false at line 4. When I submit the form again, the form is validated because 'submit' is true (but that's set to true the first time). How can I ensure the submit function waits for the ajax request to finish?

I have this very simple code and if I focus on the textfield or button the backgrond color changes to red. If I click submit, the page refreshes and the red background color is no more.
How can I keep this background color after a page refresh or submit? The php in the head with the parse thing is just to load some jquery and css files your can replace it with '<script src="jquery-1.4.2.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script>' etc to test the code.
This is the code:

<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">

I am trying to find a particular tutorial on the web that I used to create a REALLY simple script that made use of jquery.form and jquery.validate.
The script would use the simple validate command to validate inline, then when submitted, a loading graphic would appear, call upon the php script referenced in the form action, process, then spit out a message on the same page without any refresh.
I have a few questions about modifying it..
Here's the script.. noting that Im also calling jquery.validate and jquery.form:
I would like to have the message that appears, to fade out after being displayed for 5 seconds. I don't know how or where to add the fadeout command in the function above.

I'm submitting a form using the following code and sometimes, it
doesn't get submitted. I have Tomcat 4.1.24 on the backend and I am
trying to grab some extra information from the server for my current
page. I do this by submitting a form and setting the target as an
iFrame on my page. It works like 85% of the time. The other 15% of the
time, IE just sits there and times out. When a place a sniffer on the
port, the Post is never going through. I can't hit anything on the
current session anymore either. Is this a known issue with IE? Does
anyone know of a workaround? Code:
