Dec 13, 2011
I am trying to use jquery to layout my form elements. I want to make sure that the script is executed after the whole page is loaded. So i put this script insinde my html file in the head section:

$(window).load(function(){
var css_attr = {"float": "left" ,"width":180};

It seems like when I load javascript code into a page, that each item I add, such as an accordian vertical navbar, image slider, etc, that each time I add one, the page loads a second or so slower with each one added. I would like some of these features, but is this just a part of life, or are there tricks to avoid the slower load time? It is not major time but after the 2 items I mentioned, it added on about 2 seconds.
I read that $(document).ready(function() might slow me down but I do not see that statement in any of my .js files.

I'm trying to scroll/jmp to the #selected div on the current page before it runs the javascript below:
Code:
var hash = window.location.hash.substr(1);
var href = $('.workimg a').each(function(){
var href = $(this).attr('href');
if(hash==href.substr(0,href.length-5)){
var toLoad = hash+'.html #selected';
$('#selected').load(toLoad)
}});
$('.workimg a').click(function(e){
e.preventDefault();
var toLoad = $(this).attr('href')+' #selected';
$('#selected').slideUp(1200,loadContent);
$('#load').remove();
$('#work').append('<span id="load">LOADING...</span>');
$('#load').fadeIn('normal');
window.location.hash = $(this).attr('href');
function loadContent() {
$('#selected').load(toLoad,'',showNewContent)
} function showNewContent() {
$('#selected').css("opacity","0");
$('#selected').delay(50).animate({
opacity: 1,
height: 'toggle'
}, 1200, function() {
hideLoader();
});
} function hideLoader() {
$('#load').hide();
}});
How difficult would it be to do this?

To begin, I'm a novice at this. I'm using 2 JQuerys on a page -
[Code]...
The first fades a page in and out when loading. The second 'smoothly' scrolls the page down to anchor text in the page. The problem is that the 1st script 'overpowers' the second, so when you click on an anchor text link it starts to 'smoothly scroll down, then the first script kicks in an re-loads the page. Is there a way of stopping the first script if the second one is being used?

I am launching a web page in an iFrame and then clicking the "Start Tests" button provided by QUnit. All the tests for the loaded page correctly show asserts for each test. I then do $('selector').trigger.('click') to go to a new page. Since the tests for this page start running before the page is completely loaded I see failed asserts. This is expected.
So then I try something like:
What happens is that I see no assert result in the QUnit test report for 'test C'. If I remove the stop, setTimeout, and start calls then I see the assert, but of course if fails.
I am aware that unit tests are supposed to be independent of each other and not need to run in a certain order, i.e. scenario testing. What I want to know is if QUnit supports some way to pause and then restart groups of tests.

My site, lizbmorrison.net, uses an adapted version of superbgimage and I've been trying to find what controls the visibility of #showtitle. Currently its automatically hidden when the page loads, and can be toggled by the info button in the lower right corner, but I'd like it to be visible by default.

The I use code for most sites looks like this:
It doesn't do anything. If I don't use $(document).ready() it removes all the ads. Is there a way to do that before loading the document or am I doing something wrong.

I was hoping there is some way to fix this, in IE7 and 9beta when you navigate between pages from my main nav the page loads scrolled to the bottom. It seems to be pretty random and will not reproduce consistently. Is there a way to force all anchors with a certain class to scroll to the top?

I need to run a php script in the background after one of my pages loads (eventually it will be 2 or three background scripts depending on the user.) I am guessing I will need to use $.get for this but can not seem to figure out how to do it. Currently I have the following in my code:
$.get("ARS_newEmployeeMailer.php"
, {userid: "1004"
};
[Code].....
However, this php is not being called.

I have a page and there is a 3rd party response that comes in that I have to key off of. IF the third party response exists, then I need to build the iframe and populate it with a src and attributes (height/width) etc...
So basically, the flow is like this..
page loads
callback to 3rd party.
--> is third party connected = yes --> build iframe (in parent page)
---> is third party connected = no --> do nothing

I am new to jQuery and have managed to create a tabbed interface with 4 sections. When the page loads, the tab content of section 1 shows up and the user can click on the others links to show other sections. In other words, tab 1 is always the first to be "active." However, I want to have a random "active" tab every time the page loads, so that other sections can be "active" as well randomly. Once the page loads with the random active tab, then the user can click to look at other sections.
<body>
<div id="tabs">
<ul>
<li><a href="#1">Tab One</a></li>
<li><a href="#2">Tab Two</a></li>
<li><a href="#3">Tab Three</a></li>
<li><a href="#4">Tab Four</a></li>

I have an html page with a lot of JavaScript functions that all work fine. Then I decided to add a jQuery function, but the document ready is not executing when the page loads. As you can see below I've added the document.ready function at the top of the page, below the links. And below that are the JavaScript functions that were there all along. Why the document ready function doesn't execute? (I don't see the "ready" alert, and the jQuery isn't working.)
<link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="css/real.css" />
<script type="text/javascript" src="jquery.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function(){
alert("ready");
$(".CheckBoxClass").change(function(){
if($(this).is(":checked")){
alert("adding LabelSelected class");
$(this).next("label").addClass("LabelSelected");
}else{
$(this).next("label").removeClass("LabelSelected");
}});
});
</script>
<script type="text/javascript" language="javascript">
function showImage(image) {
image.style.visibility="visible";
} function hideImage(image) {
image.style.visibility="hidden";
}

I've ran into a little problem when using resize() function in jQuery as I am trying to call a function after the document loads and later on should window resize occur, but I can't really figure out use jQuery syntax to do the both at the same time within a function.
Here's a example:
$(document).ready(function() {
doScript();
$(window).resize(function doScript() {
// do stuff
});
});
So it is possible to give an instance name to this (resize) function and call it just once after the page loads?

I have a page generated by php specifically for use in jQuery. It has 3 divs with 3 different IDs.
I've been using .load() to get the contents of each div and put it within the page, but I've realized that if I use it multiple times within the page (ex: load the same page, get different div each time) it actually reloads the page every time it's used.
I'm not very experienced with jQuery, so I don't know how to get the html of the page just once and then manipulate it so I can get the contents of each div. I assume with .ajax right? But can someone point me in the direction of how exactly I'd do that--the jQuery docs don't help me out too much with this.

This is a weird one. I am new to jQuery so have been following a tute online. My script works, its just takes ages to load - up to a minute! Things were working fine before when the script was on the same page as the HTML but when I put it on its own file it just slows right down. All these files are just operating straight from my local.All I am doing is changing the color of a list (ul) with jQuery on an external .js file.This is the only code on that .js file (called script.js)
$(function () {
$('#list1 li').addClass('alert');
});
[code]....
