JQuery :: Safari Displaying/hiding Content?
Sep 28, 2010
I have enabled a hover() event on a DIV that includes an H2 element that is always displayed and a child DIV that needs to be shown/hidden. This code works wonderfully on Firefox and IE. However, it's not working in Safari (I have not tested Opera or Chrome yet)Here's my (very simple) code:
jQuery("div.category-text").css("display","none");
jQuery("div.category-item").hover(
function() {

When you click the text "info" in the column "comments", a row should be displayed below with text information that is related to the "comments". Need also to click the text "Info" again to hide the text information of comments. Problem: I don't know how to display the row when you click one of the comments with the text "info". When clicking one of the link the remaining rows with the text "info" should not be affected. In order words, the part should be independent Need also some help hiding the text information of comments.
There are some things that you also need to take account to: - The amount of data that will be displayed in the table will be changed from day to day. The data is taken from a xml file.- Would like the sourcode to be written in jQuery.- Only html, css and javascript is allowed in this context.- html code in tr and td will be generated by javscript code.The class "firstDataRow" is the added in the tr row that has the text information of commentsPlease remember that the text hide and show is only for temporary.

Getting myself back into jQuery and have an issue which I didn't previously fix, and was wondering if anyone would be able to assist me. I have multiple DIVs (up to 50 on one page) that I wish to individually be able to hide and close an extra DIV once pressing the 'Details' to show, and 'Hide' to hide the extra hidden DIV.

I have a div (representing a form) with a number of images positioned absolutely within it. The images represent buttons and what I'd like to do is click on one of the images/buttons and the whole form to fade out with the exception of the selected button which merely changes it's opacity from 1 to 0.5 (to remind the user it was clicked). Here's the code I'm using:
$(this).parent().fadeOut("fast");
$(this).stop().css("opacity", 0.5).fadeIn("fast");
However, despite referencing the elements in a number of ways (they have unique id's), every time I run this, $(this) won't show - the opacity is being set but it seems to remain steadfastly invisible whilst the parent div is invisible/hidden - am I barking up completely the wrong tree here ?

I have some code that hides all Flash objects on a page. It's working
fine on IE and Gecko but doesn't work on Safari. There are no errors
(shown in the console) when it runs on Safari, and when I alert the
properties they do show the correctly changed status, but the screen
doesn't reflect that. It maybe a bug in the Flash player for Safari
(I'm using player 9.0) which is just ignoring that it's been hidden.
Here is the Firefox/Safari part of my logic:
for(var i=0;i<document.embeds.length;i++)
if(document.embeds[i].type=="application/x-shockwave-flash")
document.embeds[i].style.visibility="hidden";
If I alert the visibility beforehand, it's set to "visible" and
afterwards it's set to "hidden", so clearly the code is doing what's
asked of it, but still the Flash continues to persist on-screen. I
tried a browser resize (with the mouse manually) and it still remained,
so it wasn't just a bad rendering issue. The Flash remains there and
remains animating and interactive. I've considered resizing it to zero
x zero but that may have page alignment issues if that embed was
filling a hole.
Ideas anyone? That code above works on all non-IE browsers I've tried
it on. The IE version of course looks through the objects array and
checks the classid but when it comes to hiding, does the same thing.

I have a menu with a div displaying onmouseover, and hiding onmouseout, it works great except in IE if I click on the <select> tag, it triggers the mouseout event, interestingly enough the same does not happen when I click on a text field..
Code Example:
This is obviously not the real code, it's just to give you an idea, I don't think I can post the real code, cuz it's really long and complicated...
I'm using the prototype framework, and I'd like to keep it that way if possible...

I am trying to display three different types of forms of the same page. One of the three will appear based on the selection. Right now my code has everything shown when you first reload the page and then when you select something it all disappears and nothing comes back. I am trying to use divs because the forms will perform the same action just with different parameters. It is a lot of code but the forms are the same thing just wrapped in a different div and I know they work. hopefully this will cut down on the amount of time you have to look at it.
Below is what I have so far:
Code:
<html>
<head>
<script type="text/javascript" language="javascript">
function choose()
{
document.getElementById('notes').style.display = 'none';
document.getElementById('tests').style.display = 'none';
document.getElementById('homework').style.display = 'none'; .....

I would like to be able to display either one or the other HTML table
in the same place. I.e., there are 2 buttons on the screen. When the
user clicks one button, the table A is displayed below. When the user
clicks the other button, the table A disappears and the table B appears
in the same place.
When I use the classic div tags followed by table code, they are
displayed sequentially on the page, rather than in the same place.

1) I have a series of divs embedded into a page, sort of like an FAQ setup. Each has a unique id like id="service1" etc.
2) i'm using an unordered list with each li being a hyperlink to the div id's
3) the div's are set up as name anchors ( <a name="service1">Service One</a. ) so I can hyperlink to them via the <a href="#service1">Service One</a> method
4) There's 22 divs and they need to be hidden until summoned. Therefore, I set $('.service').hide(); to make them all disappear.
Now, where i'm stuck is in how to summon them individually and have them appear when the appropriate list hyperlink is clicked. I'm using:
$('.servicelist a').click(function() {
var toLoad = $(this).attr('href');
}
So it's telling it to load the info found at the appropriate link. This is where i'm stuck. I need help on
1) how to 'unhide' the proper div id containing the related data
2) how to point it to the right location in the page (target div)

I'm working on hiding all of a page's content immediately via Javascript. I want to avoid using CSS to display none just incase I run into users who don't have JS enabled.
I wanted to get advice from others and see what the difference is between using jQuery actions within $(window) or $(document).ready. From what I understand, $(window).bind("load, function(){ etc. will only use the script once all contents on the page are loaded, including images?
And $(document).ready(function(), etc just requires the DOM to be ready but will still execute code even if images, etc. aren't loaded.

i have managed to make things work how i wanted quite quickly but to be honest jQuery is so easy that i'm not sure i completely understood what i was doing .. but it's working anyways ... well almost ...I have an empty div into which i load HTML content from another page. When i click a link on the page, the content from the other page should load and then the div should change background color and then be displayed with a fade animation. When i click on another link, the displayed content should fade out and the new content fade in.Everything works more or less only that when i switch from one loaded content to another, i can briefly see the old content before the new one is displayed, so the DIV fades out, then fades in again with the old content loaded and then only the new content switches in.I think probably i have my code wrong, could someone have a look ?
$(document).ready(function() {
var href = $('.bodytext a').each(function(){
var href = $(this).attr('href');

I'm making a quick and dirty Google Calendar displayer with help from Full Calendar and am struggling to display the details of each Google event correctly. As you may know, if you're not logged into Google Calendar, if you're given an event link or invitation you will be taken to a dynamically generated page displaying the basic details of that event. It includes a <link> ed stylesheet and inline style="..." for each element. I have attached a screenshot of a typical event page.
I'm trying to strip out all the style and just display the content:
eventClick: function(event) {
if (event.url) {
$("#details").hide().load(event.url);
$("#details *").each(function(){

i've hit a brick wall with this one and hoping someone can help. I'm using a simple tabs script (a customised version of one that jimmyP and pmw57 came up with on this forum) and IE7 is giving me the dreaded flicker on page load where you can temporarily see the content of all the tabs, before the JS is executed and only one of the tabs is displayed. I think i'm not noticing it in FF and Safari simply because they're executed the page too quickly for me to notice.
The page can be seen here I thought I would be able to set .tabs to display:none in my main css file, then in the JS, simply use show() and hide() as necessary, but doing this hides everything for some reason, without restoring the desired tabs. I'm using jScrollpane in conjunction with my tabs script, so there may be a conflict there as there are so many divs being created dynamically.

You've all seen it before banner codes/rss feed displayers/twitter feeds/etc. All you do is copy and paste a <script src="[URL]"></script> somewhere on your website and it retrieves the html from the remote server and displays it on your site. I have a back end php page that pulls the required information from my DB based off a userid passed to it i.e.:
mywebserver.com/display.php?id=xxxx
Is the javascript just a simple ajax call to my php page passing straight on the userid passed to it or is there something more complex to it? I was always under the impression you couldn't do remote ajax calls to a page on a different server, which if I get this right a script off my server included on another domain becomes a member script of that domain and not my own?

I have content inside a DIV that I want to display only the first time the page is viewed. I'm assuming this can be done with a cookie and javascript with little difficulty.
So basically it needs to write the cookie and the code for the DIV on the first load and then anytime that person returns to the page, the source for the div is omitted.
I've been researching this for a while but just am not getting anywhere.

I'm using the following css code which wrapped around a dynamically populated field;<span class="ui-widget-header platform ui-corner-all"></span>
When the span is empty I want to hide it, and I've used this jquery to do this.
However, the ui-widget-header class appears to be stopping it from hiding - if I remove this class it hides fine.

basically I have the following code:
<a href = "javascript:void(0)" onclick = "document.getElementById('light').style.display='block';document.getElementById('fade').style.display ='block'">View Availability</a>
This pops up a divs with a black alpha background, so that it appears the new content is displaying over the top of the current content. This all works fine, however the content I am displaying in the top level div is (or should be) dynamic.In order for the content to be useful I need to grab the id.Normally I would simply do this:
<a href = "url.php?uniqueidentifier=<?php echo $row['id'];?>" onclick = "document.getElementById('light').style.display='block';document.getElementById('fade').style.display ='block'">View Availability</a>
However what happens in this instance is that the page loads with the javascript and the id in the url but it then disappears...

I'd like to put a script on the home page of one of my sites that automatically rotates content for a specific day of the week.
You can see the site HERE.
I'd like to take the first story in the NEWS & EVENTS section and make it change with each day of the week to match the corresponding stories in THIS PAGE.
I'd like to do this all with Javascript rather than server-side includes. Unfortunately, I know very little Javascript.

I have a simple script for showing my content (pictures) on other websites, but it generates the content by reading the users date (1-31), and because of that can show only certain amount of content/pictures (31) on a mountly bases. Can I edit this simple script to randomize the way the content is being displayed, so I'll be able to display a greater number of content? Example of the way the content is displayed: [URL]
Code that displays the script:
Code:
<script language="JavaScript" src="[URL]"></script>
Script:
Code:
var msg = new Array();
Stamp = new Date();
today = Stamp.getDate(); .....
function writeTip() {
document.write(msg[today]);

document.write(msg[today]);
document.write('<br>[<a <a target=_blank href="[URL]</a>]');
