JQuery :: Removing Item From Array Based On Property?
Apr 27, 2009
I have a question about removing an item from an array.I am looking to remove an item from the array based on the property.Ie.arr = [{a1: 1, a2: 2},{a1: 3, a2: 4}, {a1: 5, a2: 6}]remove first item from array because a1 = 1.I am not entirely sure how to do this. I tried messing around withgrep a bit, but that didn't turn out well.

I'm trying to get a website up and running using WordPress. A particular plug-in for WP makes the site I'm building mobile-phone etc friendly - and I have a question regarding some JS that is part of the plug-in.Before people think badly of me, the licensing terms of the plug-in allow users to modify the code, but the suppliers will not respond for requests for help in doing so. I'm therefore having to see whether I can figure out how to do this myself.If I've understood correctly, the extract of code below will show/hide a search box when the user clicks on the search button on the menu page. However, I would like the search box to always be visible when the user visits the menu page (but not on any other pages).With the extract provided, could anybody tell me please, how to change the code to keep the search box permanently visible? :confused:PS I've only selected what I think are the important lines of code
var touchJS = jQuery.noConflict();
/* Toggling the search bar from within the menu */
touchJS( 'a#tab-search' ).unbind( 'click' ).click( function() {
[code]....

I'm trying to set a width of a span class based on the width of the image inside of it. I've got a container that will also have a bunch of images... some of them will have captions and will be wrapped in a class "caption"... some will not be wrapped in the "caption" class. I'm trying to loop through the container... find all the "caption" classes... and then set the width of the caption class based on the width of the image inside of it. Here's what a basic image with a caption will look like:
<span class="caption fltrt">
<img src="" alt="" />
caption goes here
</span>
I'm able to look through the containing div and locate all the images and then get their width using the following:
// Find all images in the overview section
var overviewImgs = $(".overview-content").find("img");
// Get the width of each image in the overview section
[code]....
I can't figure out how to loop through and find all the instances of "caption" and then set the width of the "caption" class based on the
width of the image inside of it.I can find all the "caption" classes... and I can find all the images and get the image widths... but I'm not sure how to combine these two so I am only finding the images inside of the "caption" class and then setting the "caption" class width based on the width of the image inside of it. The images are added by a separate content developer and can be any size. Not all images will have captions... only the ones wrapped in the "caption" class.

I have a number of DIVs that I want to make 'selectable' on click, which means that I give the DIV you click on a class (just to show it's selected) and save its ID into an array. When I click on that DIV again, the class should be removed and its ID should be removed from the array as well. My code goes like
var selected_items = new Array();
$(".selectableDivs").click(function() {
if($(this).hasClass("selected")) {
[code]....
But the alert at the end of the code always shows my a list of all divs I ever selected, even those that I unselected again. The IDs are just not removed from the array. Is that maybe because items saved in the array are not exactly $(this).attr("id") anymore?

I'm trying to grab values from a set of arrays based on the value returned by my select box.
**Caveat - this is not an area I have any real experience with**
My arrays look like:
Code JavaScript:
I then need to test for each, then associate with one of my fees arrays, then grab each of the values in the array and write those values to elements within my page.
I'm then doing this to evaluate for each degree
Code JavaScript:
I need to first figure out how best to import all of these 60+ arrays and then in each of my conditions pull out each value and write to my page.
There is a unique 1 to 1 relationship between each degree and array so I can't consolidate as the values for each degree differ slightly.

I don' t know what I'm missing here..
$("div#carousel a").each(function(i) {
$(this).click(function(e) {
e.preventDefault();
console.log(myArray[i]);
});
});
it doesn't loop, it always prints the first item in the array (there are 18 <a>'s inside div#carousel, and 18 items in the array...)

I have an unordered list that I am using as a menu. This list contains sub lists.
I found out how to get the index of the primary unordered list item that is being hovered but I am not getting the syntax correct to reference the individual items of this listto get the HTML, the position, height and lengthof this item.
$(" #nav li").hover(function(){
// Locate the index of the singular list item that is being hovered
var index = $(this).parent().children('li').index(this);
// This is incorrect
var $itemObject = $(this).parent().children('li')[index];

Hi, i'm creating my own image gallery using jQuery, and there is a set of thumbnails at the bottom. The thumbnails have been put into an array, using jQuery, but what i am trying to do is to return the position of any clicked thumbnail in that array. i.e. when the 3rd thumbnail in the list is clicked, return 3, when the 5th thumbnail is clicked return 5 etc....
This in turn will dictate which item in another array (the main images array) will be displayed.

Ok so let's say I have this dropdown with a list of these items:
PALCO
TRIBUNA
ORO
And in a button on the page I want to send it one of those names, let's say I send it ORO, and through Javascript select that in the dropdown list. How is this done? Do I have to iterate through everything, and how?

Is there a best way to reorder a jquery group/array, eg bring one item to the first position? Should you do it with a normal array.sort() or splice(), or is it possible with an internal function map()?

I wrote a simple script to remove an element of an array but I don't think this is the best way to go about it. I have a list of about five elements seperated by ";"
I split the array using array.split(";") command and proceeded to update the elemment by assigning the null value to the arrayindex
array[index]=""
This of course assigns null to the element
But there are two problems
1. The array size is still five instead of 4 and my list is now seperated by "," with an exta "," to go.

I've got a drop down with a listing of categories (Books, Apparel, Music, etc) for adding products to a database.
When the user select "Apparel" I want it to reveal a <div> with extra options. But I "only" want it to respond to if apparel was selected. If books, music, etc are selected, it should do nothing.

I'm using the following code to remove an option from a select control based on a selection in a different select control and the option text in the select option that is being removed. The code works as I want it to, but I would prefer to use the option value for identifying the option to remove instead of using the option text. I've tried several different ways to do this, but can not find the proper syntax.

Since the Array.splice() method isnt supported by IE5 here's a script with an add function and a remove function.
function remove(nr) {
var nb = parseInt(nr)
for(x=nb;x<myArray.length-1;x++) {
myArray[x] = myArray[x+1]
}
myArray.length += -1
}
function add(nr,value) {
for(x=myArray.length;x>nr;x--) {
myArray[x] = myArray[x-1]
}
myArray[nr] = value
}
You can test it out by including the following html, and an array in the script (here named 'myArray').
<body>
<form>
Nr to add/remove<input type="text" name="nr" /><br />
Value to insert <input type="text" name="val" />
<input type="button" value="remove" onclick="remove(this.form.nr.value)" />
<input type="button" value="add" onclick="add(this.form.nr.value,this.form.val.value)" />
<input type="button" value="View Array" onclick="aA()" />
</form>
</body>
</html>
And this small function
function aA() {
for(x=0;x<myArray.length;x++)
alert(myArray[x])
}

What's the best (i.e. fastest) way to find out if an array contains a given
value? Other than looping, the only way I know to do it is to use an
associative array/hash instead....
Is there a better/faster way?
I.e if I have a list of names, what's the best way to find out if the aray
contains "jane"?
