JQuery :: Image Cross-fade Using Navigation?
Apr 1, 2010
I'm working on a simple mouseover function to swap div/image fade IN and OUT and I'm getting this white flicker in between. It seems like the fadeIn waits for the fadeOut to start, hence the flicker. I've searched and found solutions, but can't implement them correctly as I am more of a beginner with JS and jQuery.

Simple question really. The cross fade option used by default with cycle is not a linear one...it looks like it uses some kind of S curve because during the crossfade animation the background (meaning the area behind the images being cross-faded) becomes visible. Example screenshot taken mid-transition. The pink should never be visible behind the grey, but it is:
[Code]...
at the moment, which is leading to background visibility. Is there another fx option I should be using?

Simple question: Is there a linear crossfade for cycle?
Here's the problem: the "fade" transition isn't linear: fades out the first image faster than it fades in the second. This leads to the problem where the background is slightly visible behind the images being faded during a transition.
Put another way: if the cycle plugin is set up to fade two white images over a black background, the slideshow should always be 100% white; but it's not...during the transition the black is visible through the white, making the transition pulse from white to grey.
Setting the BG colour is not the solution I'm after. I'd like to have cycle do a linear fade.
Is there a way?

This is a really awesome script that I'm sure all of you can put to use if you haven't yet heard of it. However, I'm trying to get it to fade a background image on my css styled navigation for my a:hover. Here is the script with a little simple tutorial on how to set it up: [URL] My only other knowledge is in PHP, so after about 2 hours of fail in this client-side language
This is the link to my site so far: [URL] You can see the script working as it is on my little yellow MW logo on the right side of the navigation. So in my scenario, I am looking to fade button.png to button-hover.png (both repeating on the x axis).

I'm trying to find a javascript/DOM navigation tree to use in a
web-based content management system, to allow navigation of > 10,000
folders/files.
The javascript (non-DOM) tree we currently use is running too slowly
as it cannot dynamically load in nodes when users select a node to
expand. This is critical for us. The top level of the tree hirarchy
only has 20 or so nodes, but each node might contain up to 1,000
nodes.
So what we need is for the tree to process and display the first tier
(20 nodes) and then only process sub-nodes if the expand icon is
clicked.
Does anyone know whether such a tree exists?
It needs to be compatible with all modern browsers (IE 5+, Netscape
6+, Opera 7+, Konqueror 2+, Safari etc). I've looked at several
different examples, but none of them (AFAIK) appear to be fully
compatible with the above list of browsers.

I am trying to find the simplest, most cross-browser friendly dynamic navigation for my site. I tried to use a CSS version (Suckerfish) and it worked ok but it destroyed the formatting I had. I would really like to implement this kind of dropdown on my main navigation so users don't have to click and wait for a page to load. If possible, I'd like very few lines of code. That's why the CSS option was good... there was very little javascript.

I am trying to create a slideshow like the one on this site: [URL]
However, I would like to use JavaScript and CSS instead of Flash. I would be super grateful for any suggestions on how to do this. I am currently using the InnerFade plugin, which works great for the slideshow part, but I can't figure out how to integrate the navigation; I'm not even sure where to start! I'm open to starting over from scratch and not using InnerFade.

The objective is to have an image fade to another one progressivly while the mouse is over, when its not it fades back to the original, whether or not it faded to the target completely or not. That is, if it takes 1 second to fade completely to the other image, and you take your mouse off it at 0.5 seconds, it will begin to fade back to the original. I have a problem where I want to give this ability to multiple images (thumbnails) on a page, without having reams and reams of code and instead just have one function accomadate any number of images.

I haven't used jQuery before (don't know JS either), but am building a site with a slideshow image viewer "Cross slide" [URL] and it seems simple enough for a newbie.
I have the files for the plugin, jquery.min.js. and jquery.cross-slide.min.js inside my root folder. I think i'm doing everything right but am getting error messages in the FF error console:
Error: jQuery is not defined (this is associated with the closing bracket and parentheses in blue below) Error: $ is not defined
Also, about my images: Is the script currently written to know to look in my "images" folder for them or do I need to change something? i.e. { src: 'images/home_image1.jpg' },

I have a simple navigation bar using an ul with images.
I have the following script that swaps out the images on mouseover and mouseout to create "hover" effect.
The issue is when I try to set the src attribute of the image that has been clicked the image does not change. The first part of the click event is working and resets the src of all the images as expected, but the second part that sets the src for the image clicked does not either run or runs before the reset.

I have a navigation menu. Right now, when you hover over a menu item an image flies over the top of it. This image is set in my CSS as "nav li em". However, that image flies in to the same spot for every menu item. This is what I would like: When you hover over Item 2, em2 is invoked for the FlyIn. When you hover over Item 3, em3 is invoked.
Here is my code:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "[URL]">
<html xmlns="[URL]" xml:lang="en" lang="en">
<head>
<title>help</title>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />
<script type="text/javascript" src="jquery.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function () {
$("#nav a").append("<em></em>");
$("#nav a").hover(function () {
$(this).find("em").animate({ opacity: "show", top: "-34"}, "fast");
var hoverText = $(this).attr("title");
$(this).find("em").text(hoverText); .....

Anyways, I use the Jquery UI Tabs plugin for navigation within a page on my website. I have two tabs on this page and I would like to have one image at the bottom of the first tab content that just simply opens the second tabbed content. I read this wiki on the documentation section of the plugin page:
..select a tab from a text link instead of clicking a tab itself var $tabs = $('#example').tabs();
// first tab selected $('#my-text-link').click(function() {
// bind click event to link $tabs.tabs('select', 2);
// switch to third tab return false; });
This is the code that I have for the image (it also uses a simple javascript image hover effect on it as well)
<a href="#" onmouseout="MM_swapImgRestore()" onmouseover="MM_swapImage('consultation','','../weddings/pagegraphics/consult_b.png',1)"><span><img src="../weddings/pagegraphics/consult_a.gif" alt="set up a consultation now" name="consultation" width="293" height="36" border="0" id="consultation" align="right" /></span></a>
So when I read the the above wiki, i assumed that you put it in head like this:
$(function(){
/* $('#tab-me').tabs(); */
$('#tabmain').tabs(4, { fxFade: true, fxAutoHeight: true});
$('.scroll-paneMap').jScrollPane();
var $tabs = $('#tab1').tabs(); // first tab selected
$('#consultation').click(function() { // bind click event to link
$tabs.tabs('select', 2); // switch to third tab
return false;
});
Where I used the id of the image as the first "blind click event to link" and the name of the first tab that is opened when you view the page as "tab1" and the name/id of the tab that I would like to open on click is tab2. This is my basic code setup:
<div id="tab1" class="tabContent">
<div class="scroll-paneContact">
MAIN CONTENT GOES HERE
<a href="#" onmouseout="MM_swapImgRestore()" onmouseover="MM_swapImage('consultation','','../weddings/pagegraphics/consult_b.png',1)"><span><img src="../weddings/pagegraphics/consult_a.gif" alt="set up a consultation now" name="consultation" width="293" height="36" border="0" id="consultation" align="right" /></span></a>
</div><div>
<div id="tab2" class="tabContent">
<div class="scroll-paneContact" >
FORM TO LINK TO FROM TAB1 GOES HERE
</div></div>

I came across this awesome image slider: Thumbnails Navigation Gallery with jQuery. The problem is ..you have to click on "best shots" to see the thumbnail navigation...
1) How do you show this thumbnail navigation straight away on loading the page? (ie "best shots" and other list items dont need to be there)
2) and get the thumbnails show near the bottom of the page?
3) and also get the next image to fade in automatically say after 5 seconds, without having to click on a thumbnail, although one can?

I have 3 thumbs, and when I click on one of the thumb, the background of my site has to fade to the same image as the thumb. This code is working for me, but it is fading to white first, and after it fades to the new background.
function changeback(backname){
var newsrc = "<?=SITE_WEBDIR?>img/bg/"+backname;
$('#backimg').fadeOut(300, function(){
$(this).attr('src',newsrc).bind('onreadystatechange load', function(){

I want to let the background fade to the new background directy, and not a white background first.

I'm making a landing page and wanted to fade a css background image (actually 2 of that part of my divs)
<body>
<div id="outer_wrapper">
<div id="inner_wrapper">
<div class="content_info"></div>
</div>
</div>
I couldn't find an exact example or of a way to do this. I've been struggling on this for hours. All I'm trying to do is fade in those divs after a certain time has passed (like 5secs after the page loads)

So I wrote a code to simply display an image when a link is rolled over:
[URL]
The problem (which you may have already noticed) is that when you rollover the two links fast, the images appear below each other. What I want to do is find a way to make the images appear on top of each other so it will look more like they're crossfading without changing the shape of the site.

I wrote a couple of lines of code to simply fade in an image when a user rolls over a link:
[URL]
The only problem (which you probably already noticed) is that when you rollover the links quickly, the image appears below the other for a quick second until it completely fades away. I want each image to appear on top of each other when the user rolls over a link fairly fast, so it doesn't change the shape of the website like that. In other words it will look like they crossfade pretty much.

I am having a bit of trouble attempting to get this button roll over stuff working. I have looked up some really simple code to create a image rollover action for my navigation buttons. But nothing happens when I hover on any of the buttons though. When I use firebug to figure out what is wrong, it says that $(this) is the document and not the image button. The example/preview is here: [URL].
This is the jQuery code here for quick reference:
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function(){
$('#navigation img').hover(
function() {
$(this).src = $(this).src.replace("Red","Yellow");
}, function() {
$(this).src = $(this).src.replace("Yellow","Red");
}); });
</script>
