JQuery :: Simple Image Rollover Action For Navigation Buttons
Aug 20, 2011
I am having a bit of trouble attempting to get this button roll over stuff working. I have looked up some really simple code to create a image rollover action for my navigation buttons. But nothing happens when I hover on any of the buttons though. When I use firebug to figure out what is wrong, it says that $(this) is the document and not the image button. The example/preview is here: [URL].
This is the jQuery code here for quick reference:
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function(){
$('#navigation img').hover(
function() {
$(this).src = $(this).src.replace("Red","Yellow");
}, function() {
$(this).src = $(this).src.replace("Yellow","Red");
}); });
</script>

I'm really just playing around, trying to be as unobtrusive as possible, meaning that I didn't want to just do the standard on mouseover/onmouseout event actions inline in my html. My attempt was relatively close, I just need a way to be able to capture the event action without passing it into a function?
Code:
<script>
var getTabs = function(){
var allTabs = document.getElementsByTagName("div");
for (var i=0;i<allTabs.length;i++){
if (allTabs[i].className == "tabs"){
if (allTabs[i].id == this.id){
if (this.onmouseover != null){
//alert("MouseOVer");
document.getElementById(this.id).style.backgroundColor = "#465D77";
} else if (this.onmouseout != null) {
//alert("MouseOOut");
document.getElementById(this.id).style.backgroundColor = "#1a3757";
}}}}}
onload = function(){
document.getElementById("tabHR").onmouseover = getTabs;
document.getElementById("tabHR").onmouseout = getTabs;
}
</script>
HTML Code:
<!-- Begin Tabs Container -->
<div id="tabsContainer">
<div id="tabGlobal" class="tabsActive">
Home
</div>
<div id="tabHR" class="tabs">
HR Edit
</div>
<div id="tabReports" class="tabs">
Reporting
</div>
<div id="tabData" class="tabs">
Data
</div>
</div>
<!-- End Tabs Container -->

This code works:
Code:
<html>
<script language="Javascript">
if (document.images) { [url].....
What happens: You see both image1 and image3, but when you mouse over either of them, nothing happens...So I'm trying to have "multiple images" rollover...
Edit: So by adding in the red, that's when all rollovers cease to function.

I've tried to make a simple hover effect about small images but it won't work. I also tried to make the following script: 2 seconds after page loading image1 changes 2 seconds after that image1 returns to back state and image2 changes and etc.
<html>
<head>
<style type="text/css">
#as:hover{
background-image: url(images/numr.png);
} #ad:hover {
background-image: url(images/numr.png);
}#af:hover{
background-image: url(images/numr.png);
}
</style>
</head>
<body>
<input type="image" src="images/num1.png" id="as">
<input type="image" src="images/num2.png" id="ad">
<input type="image" src="images/num3.png" id="af">
</body>

I want to have my JavaScript rollover buttons change an image on my site, how do I do this?
Say for instance I have the following buttons; "About Me" "Contact Me" and "Feed Back" I have a picture for each of these buttons and I want them to show up in a designated space when someone highlights the appropriate link, so when nothing is highlighted, there's the main picture there, but if you went over to About Me another picture would take its place.
I'm not sure what that's called and if its possible to do in JavaScript, and if not, what would. Anyone out there with an answer?

I'm looking for a super-simple sliding gallery plugin that would produce something similar to this: http://labs.paulicio.us/viewport/ .The only thing is I'd like there to be no visible "next" and "previous" type button until the user mouses-over the gallery. I KNOW I've seen this somewhere but it appears I forgot to bookmark it!

I am using the lava lamp plugin on my navigation page and I am having trouble fixing an issue I have got. I have it working perfectly, it sits right within he height of the nav and when I rollover it works. The only problem I have is when I rollover the lavalamp line does not align with the navigation text. I have attached a screen shot so you can see how it is working and if you wanted to have a look I have attached the code:
This is the CSS;
Copy code
ul, li {
margin: 0;
padding: 0;
} #line {
width:auto;
height:15px;
position: absolute;
z-index: 1;
top: 35px;
float:right; .....
This is the Jquery;
Copy code
(function($) {
$.fn.spasticNav = function(options) {
options = $.extend({
overlap : 20,
speed : 500,
reset : 2000,
color : 'none',
easing : 'easeOutExpo'
}, options); .....

I'm building a WordPress site with a nice jQuery effect that fades/unfades images within a navigation menu on rollover. So when the mouse moves off the image, the colored image should fade back to reveal the original non-colored image. This works perfectly as-is, but client wants the active page to keep its colored/ highlighted menu image when mouse has moved off of it. The bolded line of the code is where I tried to set that up...
Code:
<?php wp_nav_menu( array( 'container_class' => 'menu-header', 'theme_location' => 'primary' ) ); ?>
<script type="text/javascript"><!-- this is from [URL]-->
// make nav images highlight on hover
// when the DOM is ready:
$(document).ready(function () {
// find the navigation elements and hook the hover event
$('#mainmenu li').hover(function() {
// on hovering over, find the element we want to fade *up*
var fade = $('> div', this);
// if the element is currently being animated (to a fadeOut)...
if (fade.is(':animated')) {
// ...take it's current opacity back up to 1
fade.stop().fadeTo(250, 1);
} else {
// fade in quickly
fade.fadeIn(250);
}}, function () {
// on hovering out, fade the element out
if (!is_page(current)){
var fade = $('> div', this);
if (fade.is(':animated')) {
fade.stop().fadeTo(3000, 0);
} else {
// fade away slowly
fade.fadeOut(2000);
}}});});
</script>
<ul id="mainmenu">
<li id="home">
<a href="/home"><img src="<?php bloginfo(url); ?>/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/sara_inactive.png" alt="home" width="152" height="309" /></a>
<div>
<a href="/home"><img src="<?php bloginfo(url); ?>/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/sara_active.png" alt="home" width="152" height="309" /></a>
</div>
</li>
WordPress should know whether the page is 'current' or not, so why doesn't this work? Currently the nav images remain highlighted when the mouse moves away. If I remove my attempt (the bolded line of code) then nav rollovers work beautifully, but active page still isn't represented with a colored nav menu image.

This JavaScript is linked externally and was written to add a hover action to navigation links. It downloads quick and works great, however, the code is written to apply to all image links on the page. I need a declaration that will make the action apply Only to the navigation links. Not sure the best approach here. getElementById,or another var?
JavaScript:
window.onload = rolloverInit;
function rolloverInit() {
for (var i=0; i<document.images.length; i++) {[code].....

I have navigation buttons that I'll call primary buttons. I also have secondary navigation buttons that I'll call secondary buttons. If you rollover a primary navigation button, it should make secondary navigation buttons 1,4,and 5 go to rollover state A. However, if you rollover secondary navigation button 1,4 or 5 they should go to rollover state B.So the simplest way I can explain it is that the secondary navigation buttons need two rollover states possible.

Before, I had an iframe, and when I moused over a link outside the iframe, it would load a page into the iframe. Background image was part of the page loaded, as well as the text and what not. The problem was, the image took too long to load. I've been learning how to do javascript and I came across some code for preloading an image before the mouseover so there was zero wait time. For the past few days I've been trying to figure out how to have the preload image appear BENEATH the iframe (now with no background image or color) with the allowtransparency attribute set to true.
I've figured out the code to do both individually, i.e. I have the code so that when the link is moused over, the new image will appear; AND I have the code so that when the link is moused over, the page with load into the iframe. Both work, both do what is expected, but they don't do it together.Below is the script. Here's where it's confusing. If I have the "setupImgRollover..." first inside the if statement: the page loads into the iframe, but there is no image. If I have the "setupImgRollover..." after the "document.link..." commands in the if statement: the image appears but the page does not load into the iframe.
HTML Code:
window.onload = rolloverInit;
function rolloverInit() {
for (var i=0; i<document.links.length; i++) {
var linkObj = document.links[i];
[code]....

I'm working on a website and am having trouble figuring out where I can add/edit the text for the navigation buttons, HOME, ABOUT, CONTACT, etc. There is a rollover.js file and the rollover effect works fine, I just can't figure out where to put the text for the navigation buttons and after a week of trying different things I thought I'd come here and try to get it working. My meager JS knowledge isn't enough. I started this website from a template in case you're wondering. Here's some of the code starting with where the images are preloaded then a few lines farther on are the onmouseover and onmouseouts.
<body id="page_1" onload="MM_preloadImages('images/bt_2_sel.jpg','images/bt_3_sel.jpg','images/bt_4_sel.jpg','images/bt_5_sel.jpg')">
<div class="main">
<!--==========header=========== -->[code].....
Are the mousseovers DHTML and not js I assumed they were js and were connected by the external rollover.js file.

I got a simple rollover with a little twist to it… and I have a little glitch.
The two only images that I am trying to get to swap are:
Button_on.jpg
Button_off.gif
That’s it. And it’s the same images for all 5 links
This means that …
all 5 links should start with button_off.gif. And any of the 5 links should swap to button_on.jpg when I get my mouse over it--while all others remain with button_off.gif.
The rollover works, but the only image that swap is on link #5. That is whether I bring my mouse to link #1 or link#2 or any other link. The only image that keeps swapping is link #5.
Check it out and try moving your pointer over the links and you’ll understand
MY TEMPLATE
Afterward, I’ll add text links above these rollovers using CSS. PS: is there a way to create a similar effect using CSS?

I think this might be possible with javascript:

- go to next prev in the list of 10 files

I seem to have a problem with rollovers. The problem is that in Firefox, when I roll over the button with my mouse, nothing happens (It's supposed to light up). When I roll over the button using IE, I get an error:
"A runtime error has occured.
Do you with to Debug?
Line 45
Error: Home_on_on is undefined"
And
"A runtime error has occured.
Do you with to Debug?
Line 63
Error: Home_off_off is undefined"
Home_on and Home_off are the file names I'm using for the rollover images.
I checked out the lines, and the lines are:
butOff = eval ( imgName + "_off.src" );
and
butOn = eval ( imgName + "_on.src" );
Now, I've tried everything, even tried copying the code from another sites with rollovers. No change.
I find this pretty frustrating, as I can't get my rollover buttons working because of this. Any way to fix this?
I'm using Dreamweaver MX2004 and this happens when I preview the site in my browser.

This question has probably been asked many times, but I'm trying to grasp the fundamental differences in how Firefox and IE, for example, interpret scipted code. This should be easy, I saw this fading links effect and wrote a basic script to gradually change css opacity filter values on an object.
Invoking this script with an onmouseover() event in an image or link tag works as expected in IE, but not in Firefox. My guess is there is some minor error that FF is being extra-picky about. Code:

How do I call those anchor links correctly.I place the javascript call on the links themselves which provided me with the functionality of pressing each one to make the gallery advance forward or backwards, but how would I make it so that as the images rotate the anchor links hightlight giving an indication of what the current image link is?

I have a JQuery script that gives a neat effect on the navigation and want to include a simple fading slideshow on the same page.Any script I have tried for the slideshow either uses JQuery or Mootools and it conflicts with the navigation script.Can anyone recommend a smooth fading slideshow that wouldn't conflict or suggest how I can get around this. I read a bit about 'no conflict' but don't understand how to implement it.

I'm quite novice at javaScript but I have a good background in other similar languages, so I find I pick up things quick. Basically I'm planning on reading through some more solid resources on this topic, but I'm kinda under the pump at the moment for something that I imagine wouldn't be too difficult with a lil nudge in the right direction.
I have a form (using PHP) to update a mySQL database AND XML for flash, for a simple news page. At the moment I have the BBcode style of tags ([b][eb]). I was wondering how I can make a rich editor myself with just three buttons (one for italic, one for bold, one for links) that displays the text on screen to the user as WYSIWYG, and outputs the [b] [eb] tags for my PHP code.

On the page, a person will select an item on a drop down menu, and this automatically updates two spans of text.In one span of text, I've included simple text inputs. I'd like to use Radio Buttons, but the script doesn't seem to operate unless its a text input.I've included the parts of the script that will effect the other span of text, but I don't see how that would be important to you, so I've left those portions in a faint-ish grey.Here is the script...
