JQuery :: If Checkbox Is Checked Then Display Required Dropdown Field?
Dec 12, 2011
I'm trying to figure out if it makes sense to use jQuery to do the following. I have a form with several checkboxes. If one particular checkbox is checked, I'd like a required dropdown field to appear. Is this something fairly straightforward to do with jQuery?
<script>
<!--
function s(){}
function test(){

Heres my javascript code that will verify email from email input field and check if the checkbox (I agree condition) was checked:
[Code]....
However, this will work fine when calling with a link "javascript:validate('inputForm');" but if I try to prevent users by submitting form with pressing enter I put it in form onSubmit parameter: <form .. onSubmit="javascript:validate('inputForm');"> which will check the forms and submit data (do return) no matter if it matched or no.

I want to set the color of checkbox and its text to green if it is checked and set to red if it is checked.I know how to do that in CSS.
<td><div class='red'><input type="checkbox" name="choice" value="1" checked>Keyboard is Broken</div></td>
<td><div class='red'><input type="checkbox" name="choice" value="2" checked>Ack</div></td>
<td><div class='green'><input type="checkbox" name="choice" value="3" >Ok</div></td>

I have a credit card field that is only mandatory if they select a credit card as a payment type.
If they select Gift Certificate, then I set the card to not be mandatory:
$('#creditcard').removeClass('required').removeClass('creditcard');
validationRules.rules.CardNumber.required = false;
however the validation still fails on the creditcard field. If I enter this in to Firefox's console:
$("#OForm").validate().element("#creditcard");
it returns false.
To make matters more confusing, this validation only fails on my form when I am passing a particular parameter in the URL string. I've scoured my code and cannot figure out why that parameter would have any impact whatsoever on this matter.

I've added some functionality to a checkbox. So that when the checkbox is checked it will display a div, when unchecked it will hide the div. This is working fine except when the checkbox is clicked, it doesn't display the checkmark in it. And when the form is submitted, the checkbox is unchecked.
Checkbox
<input
type
="checkbox"

I'm currently setting up a site which will have a contact form and I'm using the validation plugin.
Currently the 'This field is required' message shows up after the form's input fields. What I want to do is have the message show up after the name label of the field.

I need to do a clientside check of a form to see if a "required" multiselect list and a checkbox have been left blank or not. To clarify, the user is required to select either one or more options from the multiselect list, the checkbox, or a combination of both.
What they can't do is leave both of them blank. Both the multiselect and the checkbox pass values to a PHPList script on the server as if they were one multiselect with the name "attribute17[]".
***Disclaimer - I am a total javascript noob and am piecing together examples from several days (and long nights) of googling.***
I'm dealing with a very long subscribe form, and so far I've been successful with figuring out the code to validate emails, select dropdowns, and checkboxes. This combination multiselect and checkbox is the last piece of the form that is giving me trouble. Hopefully somebody here has a solution.
For simplicity I've reduced the javascript and the form down to just the part I'm still having trouble with. Here is a piece of the javascript that I'm trying to use:
Code:
<script language="Javascript" type="text/javascript">
function checkform() {
if(document.subscribeform.elements["attribute17[]"].value == "")
{
alert("Please select your Primary Work Locations");
[Code]...

if($j(this).find('input[id^="checkbox"]:checked').length == 1)
{
var parts = $j('input[id^="checkbox"]:checked').attr('id').split('-');
$j('input[id^="checkbox"]:checked').each(function(){
$j('dl#row-'+parts[1]).remove();
});
});
however it only removes the last element.

This function is getting called as it should. the line "if ($("lumode").attr('checked'))" is not detecting the state of the checkbox properly. It always returns false so mode never gets set to 'all'. (#lumodestate is a button I am using to test the function).

$("#lumode").click(function(){

I have a simple form which I am running a validation on a single text box (as shown below, adapted from the milk example).
$(document).ready(function() {
// validate signup form on keyup and submit
var validator = $("#updateModules").validate({
rules: {
guestbookContact: {
required: true,
email: true
},
},
// the errorPlacement has to take the table layout into account
errorPlacement: function(error, element) {
if ( element.is(":radio") )
error.appendTo( element.parent().next().next() );
else if ( element.is(":checkbox") )
error.appendTo ( element.next() );
else
error.appendTo( element.parent().next() );
},
// specifying a submitHandler prevents the default submit, good for the demo
submitHandler: function() {
form.submit();
},
// set this class to error-labels to indicate valid fields
success: function(label) {
// set as text for IE
label.html(" ").addClass("checked");
}});
Now I only want to validate the text box if the checkbox "requireEmail" is checked. Is there an easy way to do this?

I am attempting to use the errorContainer, errorLabelContainer model to display all validation errors. I have a field that is not required, but if there is data in it, it must be a number between 100 and 65535. If I enter an invalid number and change focus, the errorContainer appears along with the error message. If I empty the field, the error message goes away, however the errorContainer is still visible with the it's global error message. Is there a way to get the container to hide also?
