JQuery :: How To Reference Form Elements
Feb 25, 2011
how to reference a specific form element within a page with multiple forms and common element names, example below.
<form id="Form1">
<input id="UserID">
</form>
[Code]....
I thought something like this would work, but I can't get it to work.
$("#Form2.UserID").change();

I can see the raw HTML in firebug etc, but the dynamic elements (the ones created by jquery for example), obviously don't appear there. I struggle referencing some of them - Ideally I'd like to be able to trigger a display showing what handle to use for any given element - for example by clicking on them.

I need to do a function in javascript to check or
uncheck all checkboxes with the same id. I want this function to work
in every form and every page of my site, as I will use the same id
("sel") for all checkboxes in the site. So I need to refer to these by
id. Code:

I needed access to the form that's being submitted in the options.success() function (in order to hide the form after successful submission). I ended up modifying line 222 in jquery.form.js. I added $form as the third argument for all callbacks, like so:
options.success = function(data, status) {
for (var i=0, max=callbacks.length; i < max; i++)
callbacks[i](data, status, $form); // added $form as third argument.
};
Is there a better way of accessing the form from the callbacks or would the plugin developer(s) consider adding this or another similar modification to the code?

Is it possible to get a reference to a form's document object exclusively from a reference to the same form? I mean, for example, if I have:
var f1 = document.forms["form1"];
var f2 = parent.document.forms["form2"];
var f3 = top.document.forms["form3"];
Is it possible to get the document object of each form only from these vars? Is there something like, i.e., a "form.document" property?

I am fairly new to JavaScript, have been using VBscript before and JavaScript comes off a bit illogic...
Anyways, here's what I am trying to do:
function TestFileType(formname) {
fileName=document.[formname].img1.value;
apparently I can't reference a form object like this. What is the correct way of going about it?

I have a bunch of forms in my page, and want to pass a reference to the current form to a javascript function - when, say, a user clicks on a particular element. Normally, within any type of input field, I'd just add something like this:
onclick="my_function(this.form)"
Then, in my_function( form ) I could refer to form. No worries.
But here's the interesting bit. I also want to run the same function when the user clicks on any <a> tag within a form, like:
<a href="javascript: my_function(this.form)"> ... </a>
Problem is, with this code, the form reference isn't passed to the javascript function. the "this.form" bit doesn't work...
I find this rather curious. So the question is, how do I pass a reference to the current form from within a non input field?

I am running some javascript code which generates a popup window associated with a spell checking program. The way the program works, is that it takes the text out of a text field (passed as an object), spell checks the string, then puts it back into the text area field.
My text area is located within a flash form, and I am having trouble pointing to it. I am sure my spell checking program is working, as it works fine if I point to an html text area. Do I have to do something special to point to a flash form object?
Here is my code:
<!--- Source the JavaScript spellChecker object --->
<script language="javascript" type="text/javascript" src="../Spellchecking/spellerpages-0.5.1/speller/spellChecker.js">
</script>

I am trying to automate some information retrieval on a subscription web service I belong to, and have had much luck with similar sites using the XMLHTTP com to automatically POST the form data. However, in this case, I can't find the submission handler. The line in the form Code:
<form action="/servlet/Login" target="_top" method="POST" enctype="x-www-form-encoded" goodform()'>
the goodform() function is a simple client-side character validator, and does not change or alter the form's ACTION property in any way.
I have never seen a relative ference in a form's action property -- didn't know it could be done. AND, the XMLHTTP POST method will not allow a folder reference -- it has to be a specific file.
Any ideas on how I could find the specific filename for the form submission handler? I have triedalmost every variation of a name I can tink of -- all to no avail. I have also looked at other forms on the server, and all refer to a subfolder under the "servlet" folder, but with no specific file name. For example, the searcvh page form would have an
"Action" property of "/servlet/Search"
I have asked the site developer, but they get sketchy about stuff like this, because theoretically, I could allow anyone to access their entire site with just so much as a click of the mouse on my server. I don't want to do that, but it would save enormous amounts of time if we didn't have to do all of this manually.

so I have a html page with the following code included in it:

how would I reference the contents of the text box in a separate Javascript file? I have tried document.form.UserInfo.value and many, many variations and just can't get it to work. I presume it has something to do with the paragraph having the same name?

I've been struggling trying to get a small order form to work the way I want it to. Here is a link to the live page: [URL] And here is the code in question:
[Code]...
I have two questions...
Question 1 How can I make this piece of script act a little smarter. Look at the order form, I'm catering for up to 4 people and providing lunch for them. If they select 3 people and the spaghetti bol for lunch, it's only adding $10 where it should be adding $30. Obviously this is simple multiplication but since the values in my form are prices it makes it a little tricky. I'm guessing an onselect on the first part of the form which changes the pricing of the other items would be the way to go, but how do I do this?
Question 2 The "Total Price" is placed before the <form> tag by the script. This is ok but it's not where I want it. How can I position this text elsewhere in the document?

I have a grid that I'm adding rows to that include form text input boxes using addRowData. I know I can use the "editable:true" for that but I'd rather not at this time. Anyway I have the <div id=list1></div> surrounded by a <form></form>. Also statically I have a couple of text input boxes and a submit button. When I press the submit button the only parameters that show up in the POSTED data are the static ones. Is there a way to get the form elements "registered" with the form? I know I can always use javascript to extract the data and save it via an ajax call, but if there is a way to do it "correctly"
Example
var myRow = {id:"0",call:"<input name='callt"+boxNo+"' id='call"+boxNo+"' class='calls' type='text'/>",amount:"<input name='amt"+boxNo+"' id='amt"+boxNo+"' type='text' value='"+defaultDep+"'/>",residual:"",calculate:"<input type='button' class='buttons' id='b"+boxNo+"'/>"};
$("#list1").addRowData(boxNo,myRow);

I have a form that is pretty large, so to break it up I hide certain fields unless the information is required.
The problem is this. Lets say that I select that I a have a dog, put in some information in the newly shown fields, and then decide I don't want to say that I have a dog. If I select no to the dog question (the radio button that shows or hides the fields) the information I entered is still there. I need the information in those fields to be cleared when the fields are hidden.
this is the structure of my current HTMl [code]...
If the person says the have a dog, then all fields with class .dog_hidden will be shown, otherwise they are hidden. How can I select all form field types contained within a div of class="dog_hidden" and clear there value (either reset or set to an empty string " ") .
The goal is that every time the fields are hidden they need to be cleared or zeroed. Its important that this information never get put into the database (all fields with a value will be entered).

I have a FORM with many elements, and some of them have names like "name1[]", "name2[]", etc..
I would like to create a button that, once clicked, will clone all the elements whose names end in "[]" (including labels, and select's options), giving them the same name (and possibly a different ID, but it's not important).
I am completely new to jQuery and almost new to javascript.
I came up with this code to clone the entire form:
<script type="text/javascript">
$(function(){
$('input.cloneMe').live('click',function(){
var f=$(this).closest('form').clone(true);
[Code]....
But how can i tell him to only clone the elements whose name ends in '[]' ?
i need to us instead of closest, but i really don't know what.

I need to pass user input from a form to one database field. I'm relatively new to JS but the idea I had was to have several form elements and use JS to collect the users input and send all the values through a hidden element. What's happening is the variable names are being sent rather than the values. The code below is only passing to the next page. Limitations: I am editing an intranet site built by a 3rd party so a lot of the files we've been given are encrypted. I cannot change the method to post.

I've put together what I think is an illustration of my problem at [URL] Quite simply, I need to be able to access the elements of the form without referring to them by ID as the whole form is intended to be cloned. I intended to do this using parentNode and childNodes[] together with the 'this' keyword. My understanding of 'this' in this context is that it should refer to the HTML element calling the function, i.e. one of the radio button inputs. However this gives the error "Error: this.parentNode is undefined"

I'm building a custom component in Joomla. All the Jquery up till now is working just fine.
I'm not sure if I'm using the wrong keywords or what, but I'm not having much success finding a way to make the following happen:
I have a form that asks for a bunch of information. First it's name, etc... Then it asks for vehicle information: The code for that is this:
<table class="rsmformtable contentpaneopen">
<tr>
<td colspan="2">
<div class="rsmformtablediv">
[Code].....
So, what I want to happen is that there is an add vehicle link or button so that when someone hits it, it allows them to add in another vehicle. Of course it should also add some index to the id's of all the inputs as I will use the post data to add the vehicles to a database.
Now at first I thought I had found a solution, that works a little bit. But then when the PHP comes into effect things break.
Also, this is an aside: the truck vin row is controlled by jquery now. If the plan type selected is for a truck, it will show that row, if it's not then that row is hidden. I'm pretty sure I'll need to build a loop in the Jquery script that will allow that hide and show feature to work based on the index added to the truck row.
in my searching, the only thing I've really been able to find is that I might have to use AJAX, but that's not something I familiar with just yet.
