JQuery :: How To Alter Randomly Order Of TD Elements Of Table
Feb 20, 2011
I'm new in jQuery. I have to alter randomly the order of the td elements of a table. My initial idea is:
- Clone the original table (I can't modify it).
- Disorder randomly the elements of the cloned table.
- Show the cloned table.
The actual code is:
<html> <head>
<script src="[URL]"></script>
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).ready(function(){
});
</script></head>
<body><script>
$(document).ready(function(){ .....

I've new to the dream.in.code community and I've heard you guys are the best to offer advice, so here we go. Right now, I'm working on a assignment where I'm trying to randomly distribute a word string into a 16/16 table. The idea is that it would display the words from the string in reversed order(i.e. the words can only be displayed in four directions in reverse: diagonally up, diagonally down, down-to-up and right-to-left, so something is "FOUR" becoming "ROUF" is allowed). So far, I've created the table and have used the string.split method to make my string to an array, but I'm difficulty figuring out how to get the reversed order and random distribution part down. I've also attached the instructions sheet for further clarification of my task.

So, I have a document like this (leaving the formal body and head tags out):
<ul>
<li>Listitem #1</li>
<li>Listitem #2</li>
<li>Listitem #3</li>
<li>Listitem #4</li>
<li>Listitem #5</li>
</ul>
Now my plan was to make the order of the <li> elements random, so that at certain times it appears like this
<ul>
<li>Listitem #4</li>
<li>Listitem #2</li>
<li>Listitem #5</li>
<li>Listitem #1</li>
[Code]....
But trying to load the HTML it didn't work. Would you be able to explain me why and how this problem could be fixed? I have tried several alternatives, checked the error console all the time, but they all failed as well.

I'm attempting to physically change the index order of the elements returned by a selector.For example, I'm attempting to make it so when someone clicks on a button, it swaps the index position of the element above or below it (depending on which button they press).I tried to assign it using something like $('.draggable :eq(2)').attr('index', 3)But it didn't seem to work. Is there a way to do it using jQuery, or do I have to change it within DOM itself? Or is there another way to do it?

I use PHP to create an HTML table with information from a database, ordered by date. Some of the rows of the table have a class named "new", while the others don't have any class. What I would like to do is to have all the rows with class "new" shown as last rows of that specific date.
So for example:
Code:
<tr>...<td>01-01-2011</td>...</tr>
<tr>...<td>01-01-2011</td>...</tr>
<tr class="new">...<td>01-01-2011</td>...</tr>
<tr class="new">...<td>01-01-2011</td>...</tr>
Is this possible using javascript/jquery?

I've been struggling trying to get a small order form to work the way I want it to. Here is a link to the live page: [URL] And here is the code in question:
[Code]...
I have two questions...
Question 1 How can I make this piece of script act a little smarter. Look at the order form, I'm catering for up to 4 people and providing lunch for them. If they select 3 people and the spaghetti bol for lunch, it's only adding $10 where it should be adding $30. Obviously this is simple multiplication but since the values in my form are prices it makes it a little tricky. I'm guessing an onselect on the first part of the form which changes the pricing of the other items would be the way to go, but how do I do this?
Question 2 The "Total Price" is placed before the <form> tag by the script. This is ok but it's not where I want it. How can I position this text elsewhere in the document?

I am doing some work, where I want to have a table heading that remains in a fixed position, when the window is scrolled (I will ultimately have a very long table). I have written the code below, which fixes the heading.
I am trying to make it so that each body row of the table gets hidden, when the window is scrolled such that the row passes above the heading row.
To do this I need to somehow detect the distance of each row from the top of the window as the window is scrolled so I can detect when it goes above the fixed heading row. I have tried to do this using offsetTop and scrollTop in the code below, but it doesn't seem to be working (in Safari at least, which I am using for my main testing).
Does anyone know a simple way of detecting the distance to the top of the window so I can use it in my code below, which will work in all browsers?
(I don't really want to use div, and overflow-y:auto to achieve the fixed heading scrollable table, because I don't want to have a sub-section with its own scrollbar. I just want to have the main page scrollbar when the list gets long enough to require it.)

I have written some JavaScript that I can use to remove a table row from a table. If I have the table:
[Code]...
I also have JavaScript that will add a row to the same table. I've found that if I add a bunch of rows, when I delete one, there is a small amount of whitespace added between the permanent row and the others. It seems like while the row is removed, some remnants of it remain. Is there a way to get rid of it completely?

I've selected multiple tables and tried to use each for applying cornering to each table. Inside the callback function, I try to find the first/last table cells to apply cornering for each corner. However, when there are multiple tables it looks at _all_ the tr elements for the first/last rows. See example code:
// Add cornering to tables
$('table.corner-me').addClass('ui-corner-all').each(function(){
var $table = $(this);
$table.find('tr:first :first-child').addClass('ui-corner-tl');

So I have a form with a few tables in it. One of these tables is to enter new values, and the rest of the tables are to update existing values. I need to be able to empty all values of elements within the table for entering new values on a button click, but I'm having trouble doing this with jquery.
I'm trying to find all elements inside of the table with id of "new_details" and then set all text box values to "" and uncheck all checkboxes but I'm not getting anywhere.

I've an HTML table that uses the jQuery-datatables plug-in. One of the columns in the table includes a button for adding a new row to the table immediately following the row where the button was clicked from.
My HTML code is as follows :
<table id="contactInfo">
<thead>...</thead>
<tbody>
<tr>
<td>...</td>
[Code]....
With this code, the function() to execute my button's onclick event isn't loading and therefore I cant event see the "button clicked" alert msg.

I'd like to reorganize the third, fourth, fifth and sixth, as well as any
elements thereafter in an array in random order:
var a = new Array('first','second','third','fourth','fifth','s ixth','etc')
In other words, the first, second and third element should remain in
position 0, 1 and 2, while the fourth, fifth and sixth, etc. should appear
in random order.

I have now been playing around for hours trying to figure this out. Swore I would not ask for a solution. Now I have a headache, so I am asking. On one HTML Page (From.htm) I have:
[Code]...
I somehow, need to get the values as shown in the handle function for each of Products shown in From.htm. Keep in mind the only thing I know from From.htm is the class names. I have no idea what products are listed or what the input names are. This table is generated by a third party. Assume that index.htm and From.htm are on the same website.

I have a ASP.NET gridview which is rendered as a HTML table. There are 2 columns in the grid. First column is a checkbox and second column is a input textbox in which the user will enter a amount. I want to be able to loop through the rows of the table using jquery to find out the rows that have a checked checkbox and then sum the value in the corresponding textbox in which the user will enter a amount. In other words how do I loop through the table and find out the elements on the same row on the table.

I've got a div "main" that gets it's width changed via state chart. Now, in main I've got a div "item_title" that needs to change in respect to the width of "main" -90px because I have a fixed width 90px div also in "main". The code I have isn't sizing at all, like the width isn't being applied. In the css I don't have a width declared to the "item_title" to make sure nothing is interfering.

I haven't used jquery for quite a while and I'm trying to simply alter out the text in a div with an ID of "test" but I'm running into trouble.
Code:
var mytest = $("#test");
alert(mytest);
I'm sure it's because I've selected the div as a whole, but I've tried selecting the first child with no success.
I suppose I should first chain in a "p" selector, then select the first item, but I'm not quite sure how to do it. What I think is my closest attempt is as follows:
Code:
var mytest = $("#test").("p")[0];
alert(mytest);

We are working within a CMS and we have a dynamic text header that pulls into the top of the page. The problem is that there are certain titles that are too long and are breaking into other design elements. I'm thinking there should be a way to count the number of characters and then dynamically change the font-size of the header.
