How can I get the json that this url generates?[URL]... It returns a json object as a file to download, I've tried getting the data as jsonp, but it needs a callback in the feed, but I can't generate it cause the server which generates the code is external.

Couldnt make it work using the get method. And using other data type just would make the incoming data as null (even including ?callback=? in the url).
I have this code:

Problem is, I can't access dataValues at the server side once I assign this same URL to the iframe.Is there any other way to POST JSON value through form submission without ajax? or any other way out, I am trying to download file that is based on some parameters and isn't a direct download link.
Is Json considered the better file format for loadind data via Jquery AJAX? I am going to use it either way, but from a cutting edge stand point, is JSON looked at a more cutting edge since it loads faster. 2. And for that matter is anyone using css3 and E4X? All these seem to require the latest versions of all browsers. Since my goal is to be cutting edge I was thinking to do some stuff in the above listed that require only the latest browser if it is detected, if not use what works in most all browsers? What are cutting edge web app developers really doing at this time?

When I run this script I get the alert that lets me know that the variable "theMappableItem" has been established correctly. I click "OK" in the alert box. Then in my console (in firebug) I see a line showing that the .json file has been gotten successfully. Next in the console is an error that says:

Is the first time I try to use this wonderful library so I'm still a little naive Right now I'm having a problem that I have no idea how to solve. Documentation, google, etc have been useless for me in this point (probably because I'm not searching the right terms) So I'm creating an invitation system: simply, a form where you put an email address and when you hit submit it makes an ajax call. The server should answer with some data such 'how many invitations the user have left', possible errors and (if in development enviroment) the url for the invitation (debuggin purposes), everything coded in json.
The problem is that sometimes when sending an invitation firefox pops me up with a download dialog suggesting to save an "application/json" file with all the data that the server processed. My jQuery script should be taking care of handling it and it is not. I have told Rails to render the answer in json format: render :json => message.to_json message is a hash with a format similar to {:error => "There was an error, sorry", :invitations_left => current_user.invitations_left} And I have also specified jQuery the type expected in the return of the call:

The first url works and I get json-data in the data-object. The second url gives a "parseerror", and I can't figure out why. As far as I can see (and using a json-validator) the second url returns valid json, so what's wrong?

The info in the resulting string is correct, but here you can see the [ ] at the start and end of the line. It seems not to be a correct Json string and then it crashes my script !
I have another request like this which gives me the good format of resulting data (without the [ ]) and which works perfectly when i decode the Json string to display it.

I am doing a JSON request to get data back from a PHP file. On the return of that data, I am using a for loop to go through the data and post it up using JS. Here is my code:

Now, what is happening, because there is 10 entries being posted, my JS is looking at the class that is being put together (main-armory button) and making it so that class appends every run through. So, I want one entry for main-armory button and I am getting this:

I have a web service that accepts application/json but returns HTML to place in a DIV. I am not having any luck configuring the .ajax call so that it both POSTs in a format accepted by the web service and does not attempt to validate the HTML response as JSON.

It would seem that I cannot have anything other than 'json' in the dataType, even though from the docs it appears that this only affects the interpretation of the response, changing it's value to 'html' causes the web service to reject the call. I've also tried a converter but perhaps I'm not using it properly. Is it possible to use jquery to post JSON and get back HTML? What configurations am I missing?

The error is the comments before and after the json string. This has been invented for security reasons. As the www says returning JSON directly is somehow discouraged because it can be exploited. I am not a security expert at all but would like to go conform with this recommendation. I am trying out $.ajax instead of getJSON for debugging purposes. Because getJSON did not report an error in IE (6,7 or 8) and I am
trying to figure out why a jQuery plug-in is not painting my returned images to the screen in IE but is in other browsers. So I tried this. Interestingly enough, it hits the error event in IE but not firefox, safari and the rest and I don't know why (this code works great and renders my data just fine in FireFox and the rest). Same result. Firefox and the rest had no issue. IE still exited the $.ajax and my error method kicked in. No rhyme or reason whatsoever and I tried the IE Dev tools... nothing. About the only thing I get is this: Line: 163 Error: System error: -1072896658.Line 163 which is simply the line: function() { alert("An error has occurred. try again."); This has got to be the most f*d up situation I've been in and I need to get this working! I just cannot understand why IE can't parse a getJSON or $.ajax response, that is impossible or else there would be a huge meltdown with jQuery.
