JQuery :: Detecting Field Value On Page Load And Clearing Field Label
Oct 14, 2010
I'm having trouble detecting if there is value in a field when the page loads and manipulating the fields label class accordingly. Below is my code. I'm using it to display the field label inline with the field, and when the user starts typing, the label is hidden. The problem I'm having is, since this is for a login screen, if the user has typed in an incorrect password, the username still remains entered when the page reloads and I see my label stacked underneath.
How can I detect if that field has a value and apply a class to the label to hide it? I don't have to have to specify each field by their ID, because I'd like to use this all over (member profile management area).
I have the following code that I'm using to cycle through each element in a form field, and clear whatever text is in it. If the user clicks out of the field without typing anything then the script is supposed to return to whatever value it started with (e.g. "Enter your name..."). If the user does type something, then it stays in the field even when they click out of it:
I have a page with multiple text fields, each of which has an example for an initial value. I've added the appropriate code so that onFocus() the example is cleared away, and a blank field is left behind. Trouble is, I only want that to happen once, so that the field isn't cleared if the user attempts to edit what they wrote earlier. Anybody know of a way to do that with only a few lines of code? Here's my existing code:
I have my labels on top of the fields and when an invalid field is found, validate moves the focus to the first invalid field, but when it does that the user can't see the label. How can I make it scroll up just a tiny bit to include the label? Also, wondering if anyone has implemented scrolling in general so that the page scrolls smoothly up to the error location rather than the jump you get with a focus change to an off-screen element.
I installed a JS form dependency script. Basically if a checkbox is checked Field A will disappear and Field B will take its place. The script appears to work fine. The problem I am having is this. If someone submits the form using the Field B entry and then they need to submit a form using the Field A entry, the Field B entry is still being passed even though is it is not displayed and Field A has a value in it!So I guess my question is, how do I flush out the form field after the form is submitted? This is just happening with the fields where there is the JS Form Dependency script involved.
I'm currently designing a form with client-side validation using javascript. I've set the input property to display as the value (for example, "your name" inside the name field) and I've set the javascript to clear value using name.focus but everytime I reselect the field to edit the value, it clears again, so I'm trying to make it so that on the 2nd time it get's selected, the nameClear funtion doesn't run. Here's what I've got so far, but it's not working. For some reason, the else statement within the function that runs on .focus is showing as invalid in my debugger, but it looks fine to me.
I have a form and inside the text fields I have a note that indicates: Type here your name...all this instead of having titles for each field. That text is set as initial value and the user has to highlight the text to delete it. What I am wondering is if there is a way to have the text but when the user clicks on the Field the text disappears and there is no need for deleting. I have seen this before but I can recall where.
I have a text field that is for a number. On page load the value is "0.0000"... I want the text field to be blank if the value is indeed "0.0000". Any suggestions on how I can validate and set the value of the text field on page load?
The online banking site I use has autofill=no set in their login form, and I recently switched from IE to Safari, which honors this. I'd like my account number to be filled in automatically like IE did (please, no comments on whether this is a good idea or not, I've already had this discussion in another group and I've decided the account number is not something I consider a big secret, since it's visible on every check -- that's what the PIN is for).
I'm trying to do this with a bookmarklet. The following works to fill in the account number and move focus to the PIN field:
(newlines included to make the post easier to read, they're not in the actual bookmarklet).
But this requires me to use two bookmarks, a regular one to load the site, and this one to fill in the field. I'd like a single bookmarklet that does both steps at once. I tried:
because of the security settings in browsers i can't set the default path value of a file upload field in a form. i was wondering if there is a way to have javascript type one in when the page loads?
I have a webpage which has two radio buttons. There is a label also in the web page. I want the label string to be based on the radio button status. I am able to change when somebody press the radio button using "onclick" function, but now when the page is reloaded.
Here is my code
Code:
I want the highlighted label value to be changed based on the radio button value at the start up itself( ie if the page get reloaded if some error has happend at filling the form)
I'm using Google Maps to calculate distance between cities. I need to use that distance value for some basic calculations. Distance has to be in "Angloamerican" format (1,234.00) but in metric system. So, Google Maps answer for Madrid - Berlin query will be one of these two:
a) <span jscontent="distance['text']" jsdisplay="distance" jstcache="7">2.320,1 km</span> b) <span jscontent="distance.text" jstcache="23">2.320,1 km</span>
notice the differences in span "classes" (jstcache is 7 or 23) and lack of any "id" or "name" attributes.
What I want to accomplish is:
1) Convert these Google Maps distance values to "Angloamerican" format (2,320 km) or (even better) format without thousands separator which would only use dots as decimal separator (2320.1 km)
2) Use that filtered value to populate a text field called distance
Populate hidden form element value with the value of a text field on form submit (jQuery)
It helped me a bit with the auto-populate part, but I can't make it work in combination with this Google Maps code. Here is my current code:
<head> ... <script type="text/javascript"> function submitMyForm(){
I am trying to make some dynamic effect to a HTML page using JQuery.<br/> 1.<br/> When the user clicks a Radio field, the field will be highlighted.<br/> 2.<br/> When the user clicks the Radio 'Man', <br/>a Input text box will be provided immeditely just below it.
Here is my simple HTML page, but I don't know how to do with the JQuery part:
however the validation still fails on the creditcard field. If I enter this in to Firefox's console:
$("#OForm").validate().element("#creditcard");
it returns false.
To make matters more confusing, this validation only fails on my form when I am passing a particular parameter in the URL string. I've scoured my code and cannot figure out why that parameter would have any impact whatsoever on this matter.
I have a text field (field1) already displayed on the HTML page. However, there's a link where you can add additional text fields to the page as well. When the link is clicked, the second text field is added successfully (field2), and when the link is clicked again, the third text field (field3) is added successfully. However, the third field does not add itself to the page, and the text for anything greater than a third field also isn't displayed after. This obviously means that my "fields" variable is not working right
I'm trying to load xml using ajax call and later query the xml using a input field, the results of which should populate into a div. I would be searching by site id or title in the xml.Right now, after the ajax call nothing happens.
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head>[code].....
I am new in jquery and learning it.I am going to make a form validation where if the radio button is checked then the form validation will take place in particular one field ie file field and all other fields will be validated normally. Here is my code:
The following form validation script works, currently if one of the five fields are completed, a message appears the remaining field(s) must be completed etc. Although the information the user has inputted in the first field is cleared. How can this information be available, if there is one problem in the form it doesn't make sense that the user must re-input all the information again. I look forward to hearing your response,
that a javascript which is validating a phone number accepts only digits but if the text field is left empty it should accept the entry as an empty entry...
I want to create a javascript function where I have a dropdown list and onChage I want to update a txt field with the current date in the dd/mm/yyyy format.
I have a text field, call it income, that when the input is > 0 I need to dynamically show the next text box, and if it is blank hide the next text box. I would like to use onBlur but can't seem to get it to work.
my javascript code is only validating one field at a time (as in it validates on field then submits the form, instead of going through the entire thing and then returning it as true and submitting it...) I'm not sure what to do to be honest, I've looked up google to no real avail.. my variables are declared in a seperate file to the actual even handlers and I have heaps of comments through out it, so please don't judge lol i'm still learning Quote:
//Event Registrations (Variable Declarations) found in validation_chkr.js //Validate Entire Form using validate_join() function validate_join()
i have a form with a 'name', 'date', 'type', 'style', 'color' and 'result' field.let's say the user inputs "jones" in the name field, "8/1/2011" in the date field, "new" in the type field, and 'modern' in the style field.i want the 'result' field to take a look at the 'name' field, and if the 'name' field has a particular text, let's say (in this case) "jones", the javascript code will then place the contents of 'date', 'type' and 'style' fields, along with hardwired text like "the information you are looking for is 'date', 'type' and 'style'" into the 'result' field.
