JQuery :: Defaulting Css Values - Cater For No Element Headache?

I could really do with a little help with dealing with an element that does not always exist please.
This is my first dip into jQuery and Javascript but I'm not a developer newbie I have 5 forms that share the same HTML (A Rails partial if it helps!)The shared HTML is a website preview and in one form I am allowing users to choose the height and width of the border around their website. On the forms that do not have the input fields available Internet Explorer throws a javascript error (Firefox handles the issue with no problems)
The idea is that as the values in the uinput fields change the website preview to reflect those changes as you type. The good news is that the code I have works! WooHoo! But it causes problems for other forms that do not have the input fields for the width and height available that also use the website preview HTML
The id's of the input fields are #website_layout_website_width and #website_layout_website_height

In JavaScript (preferably jQuery) how could I create a new element and set its values, but I want it in a specific place In the document. My divs are structured like this :

I know how to do this and insert it before the end body tag, but not like this. I also say in jQuery, as most of my site is written in jQuery (only the js parts)

I have a table with a date field in each row:
The table, and the input id element, are dynamically created from database records and I use jQuery live to initialize the datepicker for each field, like so:
The idea is that when I click in the input field, the datepicker pops up and allows the user to input a date. While the date shows in the input field in the table, the value attribute of the input field is empty. I can't use the getDate() method on the datepicker, since I can't programmatically connect the datepicker element in any particular row with the input element in that row. I tried the onClose method shown below, but that doesn't work either. Has anyone done this successfully?

I'm developing a chess game recorder (records chess games just like electronic score sheet) and i am trying to write a function that handles the "en passent" rule in chess. However, when i try to test to see if a Black pawn is at a particular x,y location, it is always giving me back "50px". where to put <form> tag in dynamic rows? In the below code when i write <form> tag after <BODY> i am getting weird exception. "Internet explorer cannot open internet site ;operation aborted".you can check the code in your browser.
but when i place <form> after end </script> tag then page is coming .i dont know what is the exact problem?Is it browser problem or Coding problem?. My only intention to read form elements at the server side.In the present code when i submit the page values are not coming to the servlet page where i need to read the values and insert into the database.

I'm trying to read a select(dropdown) box from an HTML form along with all its options. My core requirement is to be able to read a select element with all its option and store it in some variable/node using one JS function. Use another JS function to pick the node and convert the values from node back to the options of select box.
We can probably make use of jQuery as well, provided it is supported by IE6.

I ended up having to preset style with JavaScript.
Here is what I did.

The first time I hit toggle, nothing happens. The second time I hit toggle, the hidden list appears, but only because I used JavaScript to set the display property.
My workaround is to do this in the HTML after the element to be toggled.
JavaScript Code:
Putting this code in the elements onload event property didn't work either, which I found odd, but I read that it was not the recommended way of doing this.
I can't figure out why the CSS declaration didn't load into the JavaScript HTML DOM. I suspect it's some sort of order of execution thing, like the difference between the two following function declarations.

I am looking for a way to put all CSS values on my selected elements back to its default. I was wondering if anyone has maybe done this before and if not has any idea's to get me started.
The idea is that when I use for example:
The elements within .setDefault will return to its default font/color/height/width etc... so basically all posible values.

I have two forms with identically named arrays on each. I need to copy the values to the second form's array. Here's a simplified version of the HTML:

i have a menu generated by a list with nested lists. i want the parent link to stay highlighted when the mouse hovers over the sub menus. because those sub menus are also generated by jquery (qtip), CSS alone won't do it (triedul.topnav li:hover a {background-color: #F00;}).is there a way to do this using jquery?

I have a list of products where they have minimum quantities in a hidden input. Some products have multiple colours, though the same minimum quantity and I'm trying to implement a jQuery check that entries made are at least equal to the minimum.
Blank or '0' entries are fine but if it's below the minimum quantity it should set to the minimum.

Is there something obviously wrong with this? It isn't performing the minimum check and I'm really not sure why.

I'm having some problems understanding the append() function. What I'd like to do is select an element using it's ID and add a row to the table with a HTML form element. The table is dynamically generated using a Django template ( form.as_table() ) so I'm not able to alter the original HTML markup too much.

I have created a form with malsup's Form Plugin wherein it submits on change of the inputs. I have set up my jQuery script to index drop down menus and visible inputs, and uses that index to determine whether keydown of tab should move focus to the next element or the first element, and likewise with shift+tab keydown. However, instead of moving focus to the first element from the last element on tab keydown like I would like it to, it moves focus to the second element. i have got about 50 definition lists on one html-page witch all look linke this:

if the dt-element in one of the definition lists has a specific css-property (e.g. length > 100px) then the dd-element with the css-class "subtitle" in the same definition list should be removed.

Is this possible with JQuery? I have the following code which I think Should do this, but it's not working :/These are two different functions which I've been testing, and the html element is supposed to create a dropdown list via some PHP which will have the option "Other" within it. fadeout an element then insert someting in that same element then fading it in again all this without using setTimeouts.. i simply dont want to append, before the fadeout animation is done, i cant seem to achieve this unless i use setTimeout. im doing this atm but its often out of sync :/
