JQuery :: Creating A New Tag?
Sep 23, 2009
How do I create a new tag with jquery? I tried something like this:
link = $('a').attr({
class: 'logoLink',
target: '_blank',
href: 'http://www.someurl.com/'
});
And then appended it to another image, but this added every link that already existed on the page.

Is there a jQuery equivalent for the traditional:
document.createElement('span')
Because I'm trying to attach a stylesheet using jQuery. So far all I've found is the add() method, so I've put this together:
$(document).ready(function() {
$('head').add('link').attr('type', 'text/css', 'href', 'script/fancybox/jquery.fancybox-1.3.1.css', 'media', 'screen');
})
But the element will not get added, I presume it's meant to go before the ending '</head>' tag?

I have a tab compopenet object that works by passing a dom element to a constructor... which then finds all the relative elements to that element using .find() and adds the necessary behaviour. Now, since I have multiple tab components on the same page, I'm using each() to iterate through the dom elements and pass each into the tab component constructor function.

I was wondering if it is possible to do something like the following:
$
(
'div'

[code]....
Basically I often want to be able to directly start using the $(this) selector without having to use an existing function like .each().

i am trying to create some markers on an image to point some options. I would like to emulate the same shape as google marker balloon, but i dont know if its possible to create using just css and javascript or not.
i have created a function which creates a rectangular div on the image when we click on the image. but i want its shape to be like a water drop, as it is much more better to see and figure out what it is pointing to.

I've been trying to find out if jQuery has any functionality that can help me with creating bbCode style buttons (ie, like on this forum, click B and a [ b ] tag appears, second time creates a closing, or if you have text highlighted, it wraps it). I've tried Google-ing a lot, and randomly found this forum.I found/modified code using standard javascript a while ago,but I'd like to find out if jQuery has any funcionality that can help, mostly to learn.

If I assigned the object to a variable within .each(), I'd surely be overwriting that varibale with each iteration and essentially doing the same thing?

It's not something that's ever really come up before, but I'm re-creating a desktop application as a web-app and I'm coming across a number of places where:1. A select box may be pre-filled with data from a database, and2. Changing that select box affects the rest of the page.I'm looking for a neat way to perform an action that could happen when the page loads, and/or when the select changes. Knowing my luck it's something stupidly easy.For example, some code that is currently in progress:
switch($('option:selected',$transaction).text()){ // On Load
case 'Comparable': case 'For Sale / To Let':
$.each($priceFields, function(){

Here's an example of the returned json which I'm trying to parse back into a js object:
{"name":"John"}
After setting that string to a js variable called modelJson, here's my code trying to convert it:
var dictModelList = $.parseJSON(modelJson);
then I test to see if it's null or not and it definitely shows null when this alert pops:
alert("dictYearList: " + dictModelList);

if I am loading content into a div using the get feature of jquery, and that content has some clickable objects in it will jquery recognize those as well? What I am doing is building a site that tracks bugs on our software. The site pulls the bugs from a mysql db and displays in a table format. There's an edit link which passes the record id number of that bug (via ajax) to a php file, where a form is filled in with the bug data and passed back, a hidden div is then shown with the form in it. Part of the code I pass back has a submit button and a close button (css styled anchors) and I'm using the same process on them as I am on the edit link but not getting any results. My script looks like this:
<script src="js/jquery.js"></script>
<script language="javascript">
$(document).ready(function(){
//hide edit form
[Code].....
how it works. Does it sneak peek the page after it loads and get all the objects into some sort of array? I'm thinking it is doing that and because I am adding other object through AJAX it is not seeing those, since the page is not being reloaded.

I have a delete button span which when pressed shows a confirm or cancel buttons which are hidden initially, If i have more than one item in the list is will show and hide them on all the items in the list, heres the code
$('.source_delete').live('click', function(){
//Fade out delete button
$('.source_delete').fadeOut();
//Show confirm button
[Code]....
I need the show and hide not to apply to all items in list, the issue is im aware you cannot use live and each together, is this correct?? how can I go about doing this?

I have form that asks a simple question: "How many XYZs do you want to create?" Then, for every XYZ, it should create several new labels/inputs in the form.
That is, every XYZ looks like this:
<div id="xyz">
<label>Whatever</label>
<input> blah blah blah </input
</div>
I looked into .each() and .live(), but I can't wrap my mind around how to do this.

With IE 8 when a select element is created and populated the select element appears as if it doesn't contain any options until it is clicked. Once clicked the select element then resizes and the data is displayed. I ran across an article mentioning this issue could be resolved by adding an extra line of code that applies a "blank" style to the element but unfortunately the issue still persists. I'm currently using jquery 1.4.2 and the code I use to populate a select element is:

My question is: Can I use some other metadata to show captions with links in it? I followed [URL] to create this slideshow, but I can't see how to implement links on captions.

I'm new to java script and am desperately trying to understand it all. My first question is, I'm trying to create a "rotator" for my companies home page, much like the one on [URL]. And by rotators, I am referring the the deal that right underneath the nav bar that is rotating pics, etc. I found one I like at a different site as well, so I talked to the web developer and he graciously supplied me with the java script code for it. The code is fine, but when I place it in a document, it has the pics and text underneath each other instead if rotating the pics.
