But the problem i face is that when my active link goes to first element of unordered list and then i press up arrow key, then i lose track of my active link...
I want to create an own horizontal navigation and so the navigation is a nested list like

An existing JSP is generating the HTML page and table. I have retro-fitted it so that it adds to each input field a 'trigger' to the onkeyup event.
The purpose of this trigger is check for the the cursor keys being pressed (UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT) and then if it is a logically valid move, shift to the next cell in that direction.
Now, the function it calls, doOnKeyUp, for the most part is working fine... when the input field in the table cells are a textbox or textarea, my method can re-focus the fields appropriately.
HOWEVER, I am having a huge headache when the input field is a combo box. Basically, the value of the combo box is changed with the cursor keys (which is default combo box behaviour (I think)), instead of moving to the next editable cell in that chosen direction.
Problem #1: My question: Is there a way to intercept/override the various onKey events or similar for the combo boxes. For the combo boxes, I want to continue to move between table cells UNLESS a do something specific, like press the spacebar to entire an update/modification mode for the current cell. Everything I have done so far does not prevent the combo box events from triggering.
Problem #2: Also, I tried a nasty hack to try and get it to work, by trying to switch the combo box's value back 1 spot (if it appeared to be needed) by changing the <combo box>.selected value. However, that change never appears to be taking hold, so it is staying at whatever the original selected value was. For this one, I am just curious as to the correct way to have javascript change the selected value in a combo box and make it "stick" and make it applied to the view/UI?

You can probably tell by the code that I had been trying various things to change the combo box's selection via javascript, but none has worked for me.
Is it feasible to use jQuery to perform the following steps:
1) From a home page, click on one of two buttons.
2) The buttons disappear and in their place another pair of buttons appears with different options.
3) After clicking one of these buttons, an 'accordion' style selector appear with a final set of options.
The key thing is that the objects dynamically appear and disappear within the same area of the webpage.
Would jQuery be the tool to make this happen or should I look elsewhere?
How would I go about creating a javascript navigation bar?
I want it to be a drop down where you can click on it and the bar drops down or just a cool navigation bar.

I'm trying to use spry to create an accordion navigation system. At the moment I have just inserted it using dreamweaver, and I have been able to change the look of it through CSS. However, I would like the panels to only open as large as their contents, rather than a fixed height, if you understand what I mean. I have a jquery statement that enables or disables a button depending on whether a checkbox has been selected in a grid. This works fine in firefox but in IE the button is still displayed as disabled after checking the box. When you move the mouse pointer over the button is instantly becomes enabled. Showing an alert dialogue also makes the button display as enabled. Is there anyway to force IE to refresh the button display after running the statement?

I am so stuck on making a virtual keyboard using jquery. I found a great tutorial on nettuts however it requires you to click the letters on the virtual keyboard instead of using your actual keyboard and typing it. By using this tutorial Stylish Collapsible Fieldset using CSS3 and JQuery, I have created asp.net web form with collapsible fieldsets. When this web page/form loads all the fieldsets at that time they are collapsed/closed but when user clicks on any legend the fieldset becomes expand/open.
Now I want to add another feature that when user finishes entering data in the controls of first fieldset and he/she wants to move to the very next fieldset. Then he/she (currently in the last control (that may be a textbox or a dropdown list) of the previous fieldset) can open/expand ***only*** the very next fieldset by just hitting/pressing tab from the keyboard.
