JQuery :: Check Browser Width & Compare & Remove Something?
Jul 27, 2011
I'm looking for some simple code that would look at the current width of a browser window and then compare that to a value, say 800. If it's true then would use remove command to get rid of an element.I found this remove command, but unsure of the rest.$j('#elementToRemove').remove();

I"m looking for a cross-browser (Firefox 1+, IE 6+, Safari whatever+) to calculate the width of the viewable browser area. Note that this is different than the screen width, which would always stay the same value, even if you started resizing your browser.

I'm using JQuery in site I'm building and I can see that it works on my browser and a majority of other peoples browsers. However, there are a couple of users for whom the features that make use of jQuery don't work. Unfortunately, these users are remote so it makes troubleshooting difficult. Is there a quick way to check if the browser (Internet Explorer)

Has any1 got any idea how it would be possible to remove the URL from appearing in the bottom right hand corner of the internet browser?
I.E. When I put the mouse button over the an anchor link, the whole URL for the link will appear. Is there any way of changing this to just show the name of the site and not the whole URL?

[URL]If you go to that site on Firefox, the "Return Code #" expands. But if you use IE, you'll see that it doesn't.I could add a fix in there for the fields if they were static, but if you see my javascript, they are dynamically loading fields.
This "class":"wide" is not working:
Code:
invoiceInput.appendChild(createElement("input", {"type":"text", "name":"invoice[]", "size":"8", "class":"wide;"}));
I am using a script I found on a jQuery board [URL] and it works for them, but not for me because my syntax is probably wrong. And they also are just using 1 field and not near-unlimited dynamically loading fields like I am.How would I add in a fix to have the browser 'only' use the expansion if the user is using IE6 or IE7?

I am currently working on an internal browser based application for my company and I would like to remove the toolbar from the Browser window.
The JSP screens have a typical header, body and footer structure. I have tried putting in a javascript in the header that blocks the back button but it seems to only work on some of the screens. What I would like to do is just remove the whole toolbar tp prevent anymore problems. Unfortunately the Users want keep the address bar and they do not want to have the application pop-up in a new window after they login.
Is there any way that I can have the toolbar disappear after the User logs in and goes to the next screen?

I'll be the first to admit, I am not skilled with javascript, but I can do a little work here and there. I remember learning there is a way to detect a user's/viewer's browser. Is there a possible javascript that allows me to detect a viewer's browser, the based on the browser, selects css/html to use so that the website is viewed correctly?

I currently have a website where i share thoughts with my friends (some kind of forum) and within this 'forum' people can post pictures they made but most of the time these pictures exceed the max width of my website so my website gets all streched out!So this is what i want: all images on the page must run thru some sort of function which checks if the image image width exceeds the max_width. if it does then the script must calculate how many pixels the current width exceeds the max_width and get this number so that the script does: current_width = current_width - (max_width - current_width)

I've recently start using Flexigrid (old JQuery grid plugin), and, as you may know, one of the few issue this really good grid plugin got is the lack of liquid layout option. My personal idea to solve the problem is to set the "width" parameter depending on $(window).width. Here is the problem (and here's why i post this question in "General use" and not in "Plugin").
The starting, and working, code is:
$(document).ready(function(){
$("#flex1").flexigrid
(
{
[Code].....
This work fine for me, but I supose it could be done way much elegant... maybe somethin without "IF" that could emulate the "%", like var percentage = $(#div.id).width()*0.XX with the 0.XX picked from an array of percentage, one for each column. Probably I should set up a function... ahhhh, as you may easily see I'm a total beginner with JQuery (and JS in general...)

I'm looking for a JS code that will check the current browser and then use a different background image accordingly.Mainly for browsers like Flock and etc. that aren't yet CSS3 friendly (background-size:cover; etc.)I'm not looking for an alternative to CSS3, because, well, I like it! Just a way to check if the current browser is CSS3 friendly.[EDIT]I just started reading an article about Object Detection ttp://www.quirksmode.org/js/support.html). Seems like a better alternative to browser detection. However, how do I use JS to check if the browser supports a CSS3 statement???
