JQuery :: Changing "hitarea" On Treemenu?
Jun 24, 2010
get my menu to drop down when people click on the head-menu alternatives "text".
For an example
* Example 1
* Example 2
* Example 3
I dont want the dynamic drop down effect to activate when u click on the "*" <-- star sign, instead Id love to make the "Example 1" clickable as Hitarea for the dynamic drop down effect to apply...
I will send the code for both CSS in which the "hitarea" is explained as well as the HTML treemenu code :)
HTML Treemenu code:
<html>
<head><title></title>
<script type="text/javascript" src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.4.2.min.js"></script>
[Code].....

I am using the treemenu from here [url] It works great, but my clients wants to have the functionality that (if there was only two levels) that if you expand into one level and view all the sub items and then click on the another main node that it would contract all existing items and then display the new sub node?

My web page has one unordered list that disappears in Firefox. The
unordered list in question has the class="dir". I double-checked the
source code and verified the markup's semantics. Everything looked
fine. So I placed the code in the W3C validator and it passed with no
errors. Then I placed a regular unordered list with no class before
the previous unordered list. Upon a reload, the new unordered list did
not render, yet the unordered list with the "dir" class appeared. The
whole situation was strange.
After reviewing web page with the DOM inspector, the disappearing list
had been assigned {display: none}. Apparently, my JavaScript for
TreeMenu functionality was the culprit. I attempted to debug the
JavaScript. Sadly, my JavaScript knowledge is elementary even though I
successfully implemented the approach from
http://www.bakketun.net/listmenu/. When my web page became more
convoluted, the JavaScript began faltering along its seams.
Here are my discoveries while debugging (using Venkman). The
elementHasClass() should match the "element.ClassName" with
"TreeMenu." If not, the function return false. Unfortunately, another
function passes the div element to the setMenu(); then the said
function assign the display attribute; block or none.
But I can not pinpoint where the code goes down the wrong path;
needless to say develop a solution.
Please review the site below and let me know if you have suggestions.
View source and search for class="dir"; the disappearing list has the
text "test." Problematic code JavaScript area may include the line
listed below. This posting was intended as a short description.
Further clarification will be gladly provided if someone shows
interest in a particular aspect. I have pages of notes on the
debugging process.....

I am trying to dynamically clear the value of a form input field and then submit the form.When I used $('#my_field').val('') to clear the field, it was cleared on the screen but when the form was submitted the original value of the input field was posted.My browser is FireFox and I can see using FireBug that when the field is cleared, firebug is still showing the html code with the old value. E.G. <input type="text" value="old_value" />The same situation occurred if I used $('#my_field').attr('value', '') to clear the field.The same situation occurred if I actually changed the value of the field rather than just clearing it.To work around this problem I ended up using the $('#my_field').removeAttr('value') to clear the field before it was submitted.

I currently have a normal link like Code:<a href="http://sitepoint.com" class="link">sitepoint</a> and when a user clicks on it I want to be able to change the "link" class to a different class. However, I don't want to add anything to the actual link html. Is it possible to do this using javascript without modifying the original link code?

I am a complete novice when it come to Javascript. I copied the script for displaying random images at a specific interval (from javascriptkit.com). I would appreciate knowing whether the following is possible:
The pages are based on tables, so the parts that change are all cells.
1. Can I define text instead of an image in the array? i.e. can I have the image change to say an apple in one cell and the next cell have text explaining what an apple is?
2. Would it be possible to put a countdown timer for when the image/text is going to change?

Ive got a small image of a power button and when pressed the inner section on the button changes to yellow, but when its pressed down Im also trying to get part of my H1 (main header logo title) to change to yellow.
Ive created a span with an id surrounding the letters of the H1 that I want to change, the id being : "power";
The javascript that I have come up with so far and works is as follows:
<img id="poweron" src="http://www.sitepoint.com/forums/images/power.png" alt="Power on button" onmousedown="this.src='images/poweron.png';" onmouseup="this.src='images/power.png';"/>
I understand Im not really supposed to be using inline JS, and I know Ive got to create a function for the onmousedown event to trigger changing the H1 text, so am I under the right impression that the JS so far written is redundant and will have to be re-written so thats contained within a script placed just before the closing </body> and an external script for invoking the main function ?

What is a good way to switch a number at the end of a string?Im trying to change the value 0 to value 1 at the end of a URL when a button is clicked. (And vise-versa)So if I have this:<a class="important_ajax" href="projects/important_ajax/0"></a>Them the part here should be simple but im unsure of a good way to do this easily:
$(".important_ajax").click(function() {
$obj = $(this); // So I can use THIS object inside of other objects.
$url = $obj.attr('href'); // This is the URL: projects/important_ajax/0

I'm gradually changing the color of some list items like this, but since i is decimal, I'm not getting the full Hex range. Is there a simple way to change i to Hex, so I go from 0 to F? Does jQuery have a function to do that?
jQuery('li').each(function(i){jQuery(this).css('color','#'+i+'0f')});

I'm having fun changing items inside divs, spans, or anything else with a simple html() function: $("#somediv").html("text here"); But what about meta tags? I figured adding an ID to the title tag would work, but I was mistaken.
For example, I'm working on an online chat form. When someone receives a message, I'd like it to show in the title tag too, much like meebo. I've scoured the internet for this, but I've found nothing.

So I have a navigation I am working on that could beadaptableto any site. You click on a link and new content arrives with fade in / out. Pretty standard. However, I would like the URL to change so it can be copy/pasted and/or bookmarked. The code below works, but the fades don't work. Also, I know this 'breaks the back button' and I plan to tackle that next.
$(document).ready(function() {
$("#nav a").click( function ( event ) {
event.preventDefault();

My code is pretty simple:
var runUpdate = true;
$.get("FirmMaintServlet?action=checkfirmid&firm_id="+$('#new_firm_id).val(), function(data) {
if(data) {
[Code]......
When this runs, if the first alert shows it is supposed to set runUpdate to false, as you can see. But when the second alert shows it is still equal to true.

I'm planning on making a website which is mainly just a gallery of images.
The site will essentially look like one page with a jCarousel on it, when the user clicks left or right on the carousel, I would like the URL to change but for the animation not to get interupted.
I would also need to change some HTML on the page too, essentially each image will have a Facebook 'like' button and that will need to change to the corresponding URL.
The carousel is going to be database driven and dynamically built up with potentially 1000's of images, so I'm not sure what the best technique for this would be? I'm building it in ASP.NET / Ajax and using the SlideJS carousel [code]...

I'm looking to give viewers options for changing the colour scheme of a site. I've had a trawl through through the basic jQuery and UI capabilities, and it looks like toggleClass is the best option.
Has anyone other suggestions, from the range of other plugins?
The options will likely include changing the body backgound color, and background-image; changing text colour on certain classes; and changing the *content* of a div, which is the background layer for one area of the window.

I have external links on my website which are added by users of the system. I want to do the following:
1) Change the HREF value via jquery of any external hyperlink to be a page on my site that opens in a new window
2) This page will be a 'Please wait, we are redirecting you to your chosen website
' kind of page
3) This page then redirects the user to the URL they clicked after a couple of seconds
I thought of doing something like the following:
$('a[href^="http://"]').attr({target: "_blank", title: "Opens in a new window", href: "/redirect/"+$(this).href});
So the idea being that I open all external URLs in a new window but I load a page called /redirect (which is my own page) but I pass to it the URL I want to redirect too.
This is not working as each time I click my link my URL is:
/redirect/undefined
