JQuery :: Ajax - Page Refreshes To A Blank White Page?
Aug 31, 2009
Im doing an Ajax call which calls a Java struts 2 action. This action basically just does a DB update. There is no data being returned to the client. The page refreshes to a blank white page. I dont want his to happen. I want a pop up box on my page. The ajax call happens when i press a save button. Here is the jquery code:
[Code]...
Im a Jquery newbie. As far as I can gather JQuery is expecting data back. It gets nothing back (which is what I want). But Jquery does a refresh with this. Hence why my page goes to a blank white page. I think this is what is happening
I was thinking of putting in my dummy div and loading the blank/empty no html into the dummy div but there has to be a way to stop the white page showing up. I dont get pop up boxes either as shown in code above:

I have written code that looks like this. The code works great for about a split second and then the page refreshes itself and I am back to square one. How can I prevent the page from refreshing itself and wiping out my jQuery changes. The page I am working on is located here [URL]
[code]
<script type="text/javascript" src="jquery-1.5.min.js"></script>

brighten a page to white when a link is clicked, and then unbrighten to the new page the link sends you to.
Anyone know how to do that?
I want to make the home page be the gateway page, and if you click on any of the links, the home page fades to white really fast/smooth and then the white goes away fast and smooth revealing the link that was clicked.

On the html form the user enters the time to start, time to end, and frequency of a reminder alert.I pass this to my javascript and then am trying to setup a 1 second loop where it checks against the clock to see if it's time to begin the reminders. I get to the function, but the setTimeout doesn't complete and my page just refreshes.

Basically, I have a link that should open the targeted link in a blank page, and upon the link being clicked, the original page's URL should be changed. The reason for this is that the user has to browse information on another website, and then pass the information on to me via a contact form, so rather than make them click back on my tab in the browser, and then find the "Contact" page link to fill in the form, I thought it would a good feature to simply go ahead and load the "Contact" page upon them clicking the link to the external page (which of course loads in a new tab). Here is the code I have in place:
Code JavaScript:
<a href="http://www.othersite.com/" target="_blank" onclick="window.location.href='http://www.mysite.com/contactus.php';">Other Site</a>
This all works fine on my computer, regardless of the browser that I use. One of my partners on this project called me this morning and said that the link was taking him directly to the "Contact" page without opening the "Other Site." This is strange because after I put this in place, I showed it to him and it worked fine. Now, a few days later, and it does not work. He said that he cleared his browser cache, history, cookies, etc. and the problem did not go away. He uses IE8. After he told me it was no longer working, I went to test it myself, and it works fine for me no matter which browser I use (IE8 or 9, Firefox 3 or 4 Beta).
why this might have worked one day and not the next? Is it simply a problem on his computer, or could it be an issue where based on what type of browser you are using, this won't work. Also, I know this is the JavaScript forum, but is there a way to do this in PHP without using the JavaScript onclick event? Obviously, I can't use the header() function since this functionality needs to be present on a link within text of a page.

I'm trying to use javascript to submit a form. I was wondering whether this was possible.
<html>
<head>
<script language='JavaScript'>
function submitURL(url) {
document.mForm.url.value = url;
document.mForm.submit();
}</script>
[Code]...
Clicking on the link puts the correct URL in the input field, but then the page refreshes and nothing gets sent to test12.php.

I had a small problem in my page. There are some select menus that the user can select and there is a download button which on click should allow the user to download a file based on the selected options...I used the following code under the onclick event but the problem is that it allows the user to download the file but the page refreshes itself or in other words all the selections are lost when the download window opens

i have a login area (user/pass text
boxes). when the user submits the form, the page is reloaded with with
a global php variable "loggedIn" set to true. i also store the
username and password in the page in a hidden form -- so that it can be
passed to other pages on the site through standard navigation
(maintaining the "loggedIn" status). however, is there any way to save
this information if the user hits refresh?
as it stands, whenever the
user hits refresh, the user/pass data is lost, and loggedIn is set to
false. can this be worked around without using cookies?

My site has a menu + iframe layout. Clicking on the menu link loads a page in the iframe. The iframe is set to a specified dimension.
I only have a single page that loads in the iframe. Clicking on the menu link loads a specific section on the page using the name anchor. The specified dimension of the iframe allows for the selected info to be visible.
I can create a new page for every link, but to the site's nature (its like a catalogue), I rather have it on a single page and have it called by the name anchor. I am trying to set it so that every time a menu link is clicked, the single page refreshes itself, and then goes to the anchored location.
I need this for a reason.
I have tried many things but I have not got it working.
Here is my iframe:
Code HTML4Strict:
<iframe name="data" id="data"></iframe>
Some of the codes I tried messing around with:
Code HTML4Strict:
<a href="info.html#red" target="data" onclick="window.location.reload()">Red</a>
Code HTML4Strict:
<a href="info.html#red" target="data"

A website I've been working on has a black bar across the bottom. Under some conditions, however, there is a gap between the bar and the bottom of the page -- white for the body. The conditions vary between browsers and OSes. To keep things simple, I'll describe what happens with my principle development environment -- Chrome under Ubuntu.
The main body of the website is fixed width, centered against a neutral background. If the browser window is narrowed so that a horizontal scrollbar appears, the gap appears.
I have tried various things to find the gap so I can move the bar down or whatever but nothing seems to work. I tried using the document height but I found that it is greater than the actual display area which probably means that it is including something not visible (which is fine) but how do I reliably determine the extra? Or is there another solution I should be looking at (I won't bother listing all that I have tried)?

I'm building my portfolio website. I'm an illustrator and graphic designer (for printing). My website uses html and css. I introduce a jquery plugin to create a slide show with my work. Until then, everything was working well. The problem appears when I introduce php to my code in order not to repeat the navigation bar all the time. With php and the jquery together I get a blank page in my browser.
This link shows the blank page I'm getting using php and jquery together. [URL]
This is an example of the site without the jquery. [URL]
Could someone please help me with this thanks.

Here's what I'm trying to do: I need a div to pop-up below a list item with more information (that will basically describe the list item in detail). I also need the div code to be included on the same page- not called from a separate php file.
I've cut out the bulky content and included the styles attached to the elements in the code below (instead of leaving the classes I'm using).
Code:
<ul>
<li><a href="javascript:document.getElementById('1').style.display='inline'">First List Item</a> <br />
[Code].....
This works fantastic in Safari... but for some reason, not in firefox. (these are the only two I've tested). In Firefox, clicking the links opens a blank white page with the sinlge word inline.
Or a more efficient way of accomplishing this task (without a mess of attached .js files),

I found the below script that works fine for the actual countdown, but when the user refreshes the page, the countdown starts from 5 minutes again.
What I am trying to do, is handle users that put something in their shopping cart and then get side tracked or what ever reason and that same product then being purchased by another person when I only have 1 left.
So using PHP I am going to subtract the qty of that product by 1 and then I want the website to either put it back, if the users checkout times out, or if a normal process it is taken out permanently.
So long story short I think I need some sort of 'memory' for the javascript, so the user can't just keep refreshing and it starting from 5 minutes each time. Also it needs to be carried through to other pages.

I'm using an swf on a page that contains javascript function calls that relate to an external js file linked to the swf's parent html document.
Still with me?
Ok.
The idea is that when javascript is enabled all the extras work, and when it is not enabled, they don't (though the page still displays the initial content).
This behaves as intended in Camino with javascript both on and off.
This also works fine in IE5Mac when javascript is on.
Problem is, when javascript is off in IE5Mac, the first instance of javascript in the swf causes the entire browser window to go blank (no html content, no back button, no reload. Nada).
I've tried conditionalising the function ( if (document.geElementById) ) both in the function declaration itself and the function calls within the swf, but the problem still occurs.
Fwiw, the function calls within the swf relate to a function that alters html text using the innerHTML branch of the DOM.
Is this a documented bug with IE5 (Mac?) or is there some way round this that simply gets IE5Mac to ignore the function calls coming from the swf when javascript is disabled?
Alternatively, is there some way of getting the swf itself to ignore any javascripts contained insied if the browser is not javascript-enabled?
