JQuery :: Page Immediately Refreshes Itself Wiping Out Changes
Feb 18, 2011
I have written code that looks like this. The code works great for about a split second and then the page refreshes itself and I am back to square one. How can I prevent the page from refreshing itself and wiping out my jQuery changes. The page I am working on is located here [URL]
Im doing an Ajax call which calls a Java struts 2 action. This action basically just does a DB update. There is no data being returned to the client. The page refreshes to a blank white page. I dont want his to happen. I want a pop up box on my page. The ajax call happens when i press a save button. Here is the jquery code:
[Code]...
Im a Jquery newbie. As far as I can gather JQuery is expecting data back. It gets nothing back (which is what I want). But Jquery does a refresh with this. Hence why my page goes to a blank white page. I think this is what is happening
I was thinking of putting in my dummy div and loading the blank/empty no html into the dummy div but there has to be a way to stop the white page showing up. I dont get pop up boxes either as shown in code above:
THis is very nice effect and more easy to use than the CSS method. I'll use this for some hover states.
Problem is that the opacity starts when the page is loaded. So you see the images 'flash' from normal to 'opacity: 25'.
Is there a method so the images have the opacity value immediatly, instead of when the page is loaded? Like a step before 'document.ready'. Or is the only way, the CSS way?
On the html form the user enters the time to start, time to end, and frequency of a reminder alert.I pass this to my javascript and then am trying to setup a 1 second loop where it checks against the clock to see if it's time to begin the reminders. I get to the function, but the setTimeout doesn't complete and my page just refreshes.
I had a small problem in my page. There are some select menus that the user can select and there is a download button which on click should allow the user to download a file based on the selected options...I used the following code under the onclick event but the problem is that it allows the user to download the file but the page refreshes itself or in other words all the selections are lost when the download window opens
I have the following JS. In this, when I press the submit button, I have a JS function that will create 2 input boxes and one more submit button.
When I type the values in those input boxes and click on the newly created submit button, the addition of the above input values should display. But the entire input boxes and submit button gets lost and the old page is getting displayed.
I'm working on hiding all of a page's content immediately via Javascript. I want to avoid using CSS to display none just incase I run into users who don't have JS enabled.
I wanted to get advice from others and see what the difference is between using jQuery actions within $(window) or $(document).ready. From what I understand, $(window).bind("load, function(){ etc. will only use the script once all contents on the page are loaded, including images?
And $(document).ready(function(), etc just requires the DOM to be ready but will still execute code even if images, etc. aren't loaded.
I have been a mainframe programmer for over 20 years - I have a new project that requires browser pages written in JavaScript. I currently begin with a HTML page that assigns the values retrieved from a third party vendor's API to an array. I pass this array to another page to build a table full of links - when a client clicks on one of the links, two variables are put into yet another array and a third page is called, successfully passing the required data. Ultimately page 1 and page 3 will be .asp pages so that additional third party vendor API's can be called. The problem is this: after the third page is called from the second page, it displays for a second and then returns to the second page. When I click back I can see the third page, followed by the second page, and finally the first page. My question is this: why is the third page not displaying in the browser? I'm sorry if I have not posted this correctly as I really am a mainframe programmer and this is my first time doing anything code related with web pages
i have a login area (user/pass text boxes). when the user submits the form, the page is reloaded with with a global php variable "loggedIn" set to true. i also store the username and password in the page in a hidden form -- so that it can be passed to other pages on the site through standard navigation (maintaining the "loggedIn" status). however, is there any way to save this information if the user hits refresh?
as it stands, whenever the user hits refresh, the user/pass data is lost, and loggedIn is set to false. can this be worked around without using cookies?
My site has a menu + iframe layout. Clicking on the menu link loads a page in the iframe. The iframe is set to a specified dimension.
I only have a single page that loads in the iframe. Clicking on the menu link loads a specific section on the page using the name anchor. The specified dimension of the iframe allows for the selected info to be visible.
I can create a new page for every link, but to the site's nature (its like a catalogue), I rather have it on a single page and have it called by the name anchor. I am trying to set it so that every time a menu link is clicked, the single page refreshes itself, and then goes to the anchored location. I need this for a reason.
I have tried many things but I have not got it working.
I wrote a script to construct chords to make writing music easier for me. The script works, it shows there are no errors, and it does what I want it to do, but the page keeps refreshing almost immediately after the Alert box goes away. I have no idea whats going on. I don't know if it's the JS or the HTML part of the page.
<head> <script> function calc() { var type, note, root, third, fifth, seven, ans; var notess, notesb; [Code]...
show images after people scroll down the page - don't load them immediately after the page is loaded.also the images which are below the scroll should be first loaded when an user scrolls down.i need a javascript for that, but i don't want jquery! the code should be as short as possible.
I found the below script that works fine for the actual countdown, but when the user refreshes the page, the countdown starts from 5 minutes again.
What I am trying to do, is handle users that put something in their shopping cart and then get side tracked or what ever reason and that same product then being purchased by another person when I only have 1 left.
So using PHP I am going to subtract the qty of that product by 1 and then I want the website to either put it back, if the users checkout times out, or if a normal process it is taken out permanently.
So long story short I think I need some sort of 'memory' for the javascript, so the user can't just keep refreshing and it starting from 5 minutes each time. Also it needs to be carried through to other pages.
I'm in the process of building this Ballroom Dancing website that has a simple dropdown menu. The menu works if I immediately call jQuery right above the javascript for the menu, ie:
The problem is that I don't want to do this because I already have WordPress calling jQuery several lines above for some other plugins. Is there a reason why it will only work with jQuery included right above? You can visit the site at www.zumbasudbury.ca to see the non-working dropdown. Hovering over Ballroom should produce a dropdown of two items.
I have a script who work perfectly as an inline script :
<script>
I have tried to externalize it :
But when I click on the "lnk.addnote" link, the dialog is shown and immediately closed. In fact i can see the "ADD FIRED" alert, then the "CREATING DIALOG" alert but nothing appear. And finally I got this message into the Firebug console "$ is not defined".
There is probably something going on in my environment but when running 1.5.2, jquery runs and behaves fine. When I switched to 1.6.1 immediately the success callbacks of ajax functions did not trigger. I did not see the release notes mention anything new regarding that. This includes
$.post("url", function() { console.log("will i get printed?"); });
Here is a code sample which fails
$(".foo").click(function(e) { var link = $(this); e.preventDefault();[code].....
The callback function for the ajax is never invoked.As part of my application, I have the following ajax setup going
I am currently designing a webpage, and the left fram has a is a 6-cell table that is being used as a navigation tool. The table currently uses Javascript to visually keep track of the current choice and open the specified target fram to the right. My problem occurs when a user has a page open and hits the refresh button. The page refreshes, but the menu bar on left resets to "Home", the default value on loading. Is there anyway so that the page can refresh but the options along top stay the same?
1. Is there anything in the specs/standards that says the <form> and <input> objects must be available for reference in the DOM as soon as they are parsed in the document, so that the script will succeed? I couldn't find anything.
2. If nothing is in the specs/standards, then does anyone know of any browsers which would not make the objects available for script immediately? I'm wondering if, for example, a browser would only make the DOM available to script once it is fully loaded and parsed?
So I'm trying to write this simple little form, where you input values and it calculates something and spits back the answer in a text box. I just started out and this is what I have so far. The problem is, the javascript line I use to change the value of the textbox in order to show the result doesn't work. The value I change it to flashes, and then disappears.
So for example, I hit the "Solve!" button and I see the word "current" in the textbox, but then it just disappears. I'm working in firefox.
<html> <head> <script type="text/javascript"> function calculate() {
I'm using an ajax script that receives a value into an input box and thus performs a function. I need to invoke the function immediately after the input box has a value. Currently the box has to lose focus in order for the function to work.
