Inserting Image Nodes In Safari
Jul 23, 2005
I dymically replace the child nodes of a DIV element by image nodes. In
IE and Firefox this works properly. In Safari it works properly, too -
but only if the site is called locally, eg. with file://. Uploading to a
server and viewing the site in Safari with http:// results in an error.
The problematic code is the following:
var node = document.createElement("img");
node.setAttribute("src", filename);
node.setAttribute("style", "position:absolute;left:100px;");// error
document.getElementById(name+"Images").appendChild(node);
When executing this script on Safari in online mode (again: with a
_local_ file, it works fine!), Safari reports the following error,
occuring in the marked line:
"[592] :TypeError - No default value"
Obviously, node.style seems not available at this point. I think
Safari's still loading the image, and while loading it blocks all
accesses to node.
Is this assumption correct?
That would mean that in Safari, I cannot do _anything_ with the image
node until the image is loaded. These are not really bright prospects.

What's the best way to wrap all the nodes between two nodes in DIV tags? Is it possible with the DOM? I have code similar to the following:
HTML Code:
<h3>First header</h3>
<p>First paragraph</p>
<p>Second paragraph</p>
[code].....
How can I achieve this with the DOM, without resorting to doing something like a string replace?

I've been trying JavaScript a little bit. I beginned by changing
an image using a very simple:
document.getElementById(...).src="new image"
Which worked fine.
However this does not work if Firefox is configured with
the "Change images" disabled... Fair enough.
Now I'd like to try something else: not "changing" an image
but inserting a new image, in a page that had no image
previously.
I'd like to do this because the image isn't ready yet when
the user arrives on the page: I want the page to already
render the text, then "insert" an image once the server
is done creating it.
For example, when the user arrives on the page, he sees
the following text:
"Please wait while the server is preparing the data
you want to visualize"
And then after a few seconds the image appears (the
script checks data on the server every second using
XmlHttp requests and once the server warns that he's
ready, I modify the src of an 1x1 image).
As I already said, it works if I change the src of an
image already present on the page (like a 1x1 white
pixel on a white background) but now I'd like
to know if it's possible to insert a whole new image
in a page that had none previously.
Note that I'm not necessarly looking for something that
works even when Firefox's "Change images" is disabled
but simply as to how to insert a new image in a page
instead of changing a 1x1 white pixel.

I am working on some functionality for a CMS, whereby the user can write come content and insert images into the rich text area - just like you do with WordPress.
So, you would have a window/overly open with your media manager, then select the image and it will then appear in the text area as an inserted image.
Handling the file uploads, making the media manager etc is not a problem, its just inserting images in this way that I am not too sure about.
jQuery is my library of choice, and I use TinyMCE for any text editors, and how this may be achieved. I know TinyMCE offers the MCImageManager but I would much prefer my own solution than have to fork out the cash every time I wish to use it.

as a project I have to design a website with several functionalities, including a calendar which is working just fine.
this can be seen here: [URL]
(you will have to click "CALENDARIO" at the top to see it)
or if you want to see the calendar outside the iframe: [URL]
anyway, the way to insert details into each day of the month is through running a script:
Code JavaScript:
$(document).ready(function() {
var date = new Date();
var d = date.getDate();
var m = date.getMonth();
[Code]....
I would like to know if there is a way for me to insert an image onto the title, the idea is to put up something like "Team A VS Team B" with both team flags there as well.

Consider following html code
<p id="oliver">
<a id="oliver1" href="/oliver1/">Oliver Twist 1</a>
<a id="oliver2" href="/oliver2/">Oliver Twist 2</a>
<a id="oliver3" href="/oliver3/">Oliver Twist 3</a>
<a id="oliver4" href="/oliver4/">Oliver Twist 4</a>
</p>
Applying JavaScript to above html as following:

Why are anchor nodes pointing to href and text nodes pointing to [object]? As anchor and text both are objects therefore all outputs from indices 0 to 7 should be [object].

I am trying to capture the image coordinates when a user clicks on an
image. My code is working in Firefox, Mozilla, Netscape, IE, and
Opera, but fails under Konqueror (and I suspect Safari). The code below
fails in Konqueror when the page is scrolled down; the coordinates are
off by the scroll amount.
My code in the html img tag: onClick="MLDot(event)"
and the related statements in the MLDot function:
xPosition =
event.offsetX?(event.offsetX):event.pageX-document.getElementById("clickImage").offsetLeft;
yPosition =
event.offsetY?(event.offsetY):event.pageY-document.getElementById("clickImage").offsetTop;
Anyone know how to pick up image coordinates in Konqueror/Safari?

I have a snippet of code that swaps a background image when a link is clicked and swaps the image back to the original when clicked again. This works perfectly in IE and Firefox (both PC and MAC) but doesn't work in Safari. In safari it works on the first click and the first swap back then it stops working.

I've got some problem with more then one plugin from jQuery.
My Problem is: if I use some "resizable background"-script (it works on IE7+/FF/Chrome), and the content is longer then 100% height of the screen (ipad/iphone), there's a white place at the bottom of my background-image.
The solution was, to fix the background, but it still doesn't work on mobile devices.

I want to load an image with JS within the form event "onsubmit" without stipping the submit action of the form.
What I do is the following:
var img = new Image();
img.onload = function(){
myfunction();
};
[Code]....
This logic is a MUST for me, I mean I don't want to use settimeout to postpone the form submit, and I have to call the URL_FOR_PHP_SCRIPT_TO_DO_SOME_LOGIC this way since this code is on a JS file from different domain. This logic works fine on all browsers, and the request to call the image is sent -which is what exactly I need-, however on safari it doesn't call the image request, and start posting the form directly. I tried to add an "onunload" event on the page containing the form when the browsers is safari, but this didn't help too, and the form still submitting data directly without starting sending the request to load the image.

Here is a link to my gallery: [URL] Here is a screencap of my problem: [URL] This just seems to randomly happen sometimes, and I can't figure out why. Very rarely, it will be one or two of the thumbnails that's lower, but I didn't get a screencap and haven't been able to get it to happen again. The problem with the main image occurs frequently after clearing the cache in Safari. I'm totally stumped, because other times it loads just fine, and seems to always be fine when the page is reloaded or a thumbnail is clicked.

I'm trying to iterate through nodes in a Selection Range, but I'm having a bit of trouble determining why all nodes in the range aren't being hit. It seems like deeply nested nodes aren't being hit for some reason.
Here's the code I'm using.
var n = startNode;
while (n) {
this.visited.push('[' + n.nodeName + ']');
if (n == endNode) {

if (n != startNode && n.hasChildNodes()) {
n = n.firstChild;
} else {
while (!n.nextSibling) {
n = n.parentNode;
}
n = n.nextSibling;

I try to associate DOM nodes with other objects. Assigning custom
properties to DOM nodes works in Firefox and Safari. It also works with
HTML nodes in IE6. However, it appears not to work with XML nodes that
are part of trees returned by XMLHttpRequest. How can I work around this
limitation? For XML nodes, I need to be able to associate at most one
object with each node.
The syntax I am using is
