Info Bubble Or Modal Screen For URL Links?
May 12, 2010
For each link I pull a few pieces of info for each, link name, link URL and a brief description. When a user clicks on the link I need to display a message that they are leaving the site and allow them to cancel or continue off the site. This can be either a bubble pop-up above/below the link or a modal window, displaying the 3 details (URL, Name, description) with an option to cancel and close the new bubble pop-up/modal window.
Yahoo News does an excellent job of the bubble pop-up but it's probably much more coding than I have time for. So my question is, is there code out there that I can implement on my site for this? I'm somewhat familiar with jQuery so if there's an existing example for this I'd love to hear about it.

I would like to display a small html file in a layer (div) when the
mouse goes over a link (<a href="small.html"
onMouseOver="showPop(small.html)").
Which tag should I use in the layer :
<div id="pop"><object data="small.html"></object></div>
OR
<div id="pop"><iframe src="small.html"></iframe></div>
Or maybe is there another solution ?
--of course the file small.html will be different for each link on the
page, that's the job of the showPop() function--
I want my site to be visible by as most browsers/platform as possible.

I have a Google map (API v3) with one marker and infowindow which contains a link that I have placed in a modal dialog. The problem is that the link in the infowindow is not clickable, even though it reacts to mouse hover. If I remove 'modal: true' from my call to open the dialog, the link becomes clickable, and the new page is loaded. Is there a solution to this?

I'd like to show tree structures using collapsible multi-level nested <ul>
lists (with open/closed "disclosure triangles" as list-style-images).
Something like this:
<ul>
<li onclick="alert('Level 1 clicked');">Level 1
<ul>
<li onclick="alert('Level 2 clicked');">Level 2
</li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>
Clicking on the text following <li> (or on the list-style-image)
collapses/expands the rest of the content of that <li> (not shown here).
The problem is that each click bubbles up to the topmost list item. That is,
a click on "Level 2" first executes the innermost <li> onclick handler, then
the one for the next-outer-level <li> and so on. How can I make it so that
only the handler for the <li> that's clicked is executed? (returning false
from onclick didn't help in IE 6)
(I know I could wrap the text in <span>s and add the onclick handlers to
those instead, but that's a bit ugly, and the list-style-image would be out
of action).

is there a way to popup a small 'bubble' or 'balloon' of text when a user lets their pointer rest over a particular part of an image? (an image map)
explorer does this sometime (randomly it seems) when i let my pointer rest of an image that has alt text - it displays the alt text in a speech bubble thing - but only sometimes! so that is no good. also netscape doesn't have this and obviously i want something that'll work in both.
the reason i want to do this is this - i've got a simplyfied map (a geographical map) as a picture. there's a small piece of info i wish to show for each country, but the map is too small to allow me to put the information directly on the map - so i figured popup bubbles would be a good way.

I used the "CreateBubblePopup", filling it with html directly in javascript. Until now, it was working fine. For some reasons, now I need to write this HTML inside the page (in a hidden div), and then load this html inside the bubble when it's created. Here is the code :
HTML :
<a class="bubble" href="..." >
<img alt="Détail" src="plus.png" />
<div class="hidden">Here is the HTML that will be displayed in the bubble.</div>
</a>
[Code]....
It seams that my "popupHtml" variable is always null, no matter what the html in the hidden div is.

I am new to Jquery and am having trouble. I want a button on a modal form to open up another modal form but for some reason it isn't happening. The code below is basically the code from the jquery user interface demo, slightly modified. can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? if your kind enough to take a look at my problem make sure you change the src's where the JQuery files are!
Code:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

I have 2 monitors from a different size. It is important in my application that I get the screen size of the monitor where the webbrowser is located. When I try to get the screen size (window.screen.height + window.screen.width) only IE gives me always the screen size of the main monitor where my taskbar (windows7) is located, instead of the screen size of the secondary screen where the webbrowser is located.

My menu navigation(Home, Hosting Solution, etc..)
1. The submenu links need to be centered in the middle of the div instead of aligned to the left.
2. Can the submenu links have a rounded box appear under them, instead of being underlined links. Like these at the top: [url]
3: The top tab needs to stay gray/active/on when the mouse is moved down to the submenu or when it is the active button.
Here is the link of the site [url]

I'm using jquery/ajax to create some links with window.open method. Here's the relevant code:
$("#content").empty();
$.ajax({
type: "GET",[code]..........
Basically, when you click a link a function is called with a parameter based on the particular link you run. Then the code runs through an xml file, and if the parent of the nodes I've cyling through has a value equal to the parameter past to the function, that node is used to create a new link with window.open function attached to it.It all works, or seems to, and when I alert what is being built, it looks right to me, yet the links don't work.I've attached a copy of one of the alerts of one of the links as it's built.

I want this .click target to be the link: $('a').click(function(e){
Instead, the target returned is the image [HTMLImageElement].
I have tried using closest()and currentTarget:
But they all still return the image, not the link.

I have a div that has a negative top margin and a negative right margin. The right margin is because I want to have the div slide onto the page from the right. The top margin is because without it my page height is the height of the visible elements plus the height of the off-screen div.On a button click, I move the div down and then animate it onto the screen from the right. On button click again, I animate the div to the right, off the screen, and then move it up. I also toggle its width & padding so it will appear to grow/shrink as it moves on/off screen. At least that's what I am trying to do. The animation onto the screen looks good, but going off the screen, it appears to happen intantaneously, instead of animatedDoes anyone know how I can fix this?

I'm experimenting with Javascript and I am making a simple site that features a grid of images and when you mouseover (I'll probably change this to mousedown) a pop-up box appears to the right with some info.This works fine when not bound within a table, but as soon as the content is in a table it refuses to move to where the link is. At the bottom of the code is an example of it outside of a table which works fine. I just would really like it to work in a table because of the more rigid structure I get from that, the content is always evenly distributed across the page, no big empty spaces. I also am deliberately trying to make the grid work for all different resolutions which is why every width/height is a %, and am hoping it can work this way too.

I've been Googling & can't find a consistent cross-browser (IE & Firefox) answer to this...
I need to pass some data from inside an iframe, to the parent page
I've got the parent page PAGE1.HTM which contains:
<div ID="mydata"></div>
:
<iframe src="page2.htm"></iframe>
And, inside PAGE2.HTM I will set mydata to a hard string. But in page2.htm do I do
var parent.document.mydata.innerHTML = "my data here'
or
var window.parent.document.all.mydata.innerHTML = "my data here"
or something else...??? to be cross-browser compatible (IE and Firefox mainly).

I've got an online system which I'm interested in making available
offline - i.e. letting the user download certain HTML forms, fill them
out offline, then the next time he logs into the site, sending all the
data he filled out to the system. However, I can't seem to come up
with a good way to do this. I thought of using cookies (that'd be
great, since the system could detect them automatically), but it seems
I can't set cookies for my server offline; it has to be from a page on
the server itself. And from what I can tell, JavaScript doesn't have
the capability to write files on a local system either. Does anyone
have any ideas about how to go about this using JavaScript?
