IE 6, Javascript:void(0) Stops The Webpage Loading

Dec 29, 2005

I m facing a problem with 'javascript:void(0)'

Software Environ:-
IE: 6.0.2600.0000
OS: Windows 2000 Professional with Service Pack 4

Problem:-
I have a webpage with several links (<A> tags), now i have added
onClick and blocked HREF using 'javascript:void(0)' as below:-

<a href="javascript:void(0)"
onClick="some_function('pagename')">Text</a>

Here 'some_function' is opening the 'pagename' in a new customised
window.

This page also contains a few images weighing 50kb. Now if I click the
<a> links before the images are loaded fully, following happens (on my
pc it works well but it happens when i test it online):-

1. The new page opens in a window as required
2. But the page loading is ABORTED and the images are not loaded.

Javascript:void(0)

Nov 5, 2007

The very first javascript:void(0) I have in this script works perfectly. It calls my database and gets 12 images and titles for my site when you click the next and back button.

However the next javascript:void(0) I use for some reason gives me "error on page" and does not navigate like the first one. I have tried everything I can think of and I am totally stumped as JS is not my area.

Would someone kindly point me in the right direction? I have manipulate the php script thinking it might be that, I have tried every variation to try to get the second javascript:void(0) to control only the second div. Code:

When I load the page, window.onload event is triggered after the big

Webpage Menu Not Playing Well With Image Loading Code

Jan 6, 2010

I am using this fancy box code to smoothly pop up an image on click, I got it working on my main index page but that's not where I want to put it. My site has a menu where it loads external webpages inside the main index one, I would like to use the code on one of those pages but something is not working.

I have been told its a DOCTYPE issue but I am not able to use the specified DOCTYPE, however I find that it works all the same with my current DOCTYPE choice. If I use the given one in addition to the one I use now (and need) then my site does not work properly, further if I replace it I get the same results.

My existing doctype:

Code:

<DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd" "http://www.w3.org/TR/1999/REC-html401-19991224/loose.dtd" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" xml:lang="en" lang="en">

[Code]....

I even tried using the exact code from the example in that linked .htm page but it doesn't make a difference, it probably even hinders the code as it looks at the main html page. However loading the page on its own the code will work, so its related to the menu and the way that works.

If 0 Then Statement Not Working - Void(0) If The Height Is Not 10

Feb 5, 2009

var ts;

The script just stops working completely when the if, then statements is in there. The div's original height is 10, so it should work, because it only issues void(0) if the height is not 10.

How Can I Protect A Webpage In Javascript?

Aug 17, 2006

In practice you can't. While you could create a suitable
encryption system with a password in the page, the level of
support you need to do this means it's always simpler to do it
server-side. Anything that "protects" a page other
than the current one is definitely flawed.

Void(0) Not Working - Blocking Any Links From Allowing The Use To Leave The CMS

Feb 12, 2009

Currently I am building a mini CMS thing for a client. The areas they are editing deal with links so as the code is being pulled in I replace any:

I am doing this so a person is not in the middle of working on an edit and accidentally clicks a link and all their edits are wiped clean cause they left the page.

Now everything is working just fine and my javascript:void(0) is blocking any links from allowing the use to leave the CMS, well all links except ones that have a url ending in .html

So again all:

Any reason why the javascript void wont work on urls that have .html but do work with urls that have .php?

Loading File From Disk - Select A File From A List And Load It Into A Webpage

Jan 1, 2011

I am looking for a way to select a file from a list and load it into a webpage. The page and the files are stored on a sd-card for off-line usage, I know that listing files remote dynamicly needs a scripting engine but since the sd-card is on the client side that is not possible, but I can make a list of those files when creating them.

It is intended for a datalogger on a tractor-puller, I create csv files with a bash script on the logger and for off-line viewing I use a javascript charting engine which loads the csv file, the files have the creation date as filename and I can make (and maintain) a list of files when creating them. The plan is that the we can select another data set (run) from within the browser and show that one. I have setup an example at [URL]

This way you can call it like this

Loading Javascript With XMLHTTP...?

Jul 26, 2005

Using XMLHTTP and DOM I'm able to load new HTML page content.

I'd now like to load small snippets of javascript with the HTML markup
and have that <script> incorporated into the page. If any of the loaded
script exists outside a function definition (eg: a call to a function),
I'd like that code to be executed as soon as its added to the DOM.

Can anyone suggest the best way to do this? I've Googled but not found
anything comprehensive. Do I need to use the eval() method or is there
a better way?

Loading A PHP File/code Via Javascript.

Mar 3, 2006

As we all know, JavaScript is client side and php is server side, (the php
code is 'allowed' to do stuff on the server that JavaScript cannot).
The problem with php is that it timeout after a while, (and the user also
has no clue as to what is going on for a long time).

I need to run a script on the server that could take a very long time.

So what I was thinking is mixing both JavaScript and PHP
Something like,

<script>
var endvalue = 1000; /* some number that the server can calculate
quickly */
var i = 0
while (i<=endvalue)
{
/**
call a php file that will do some work
somefunction.php?someNumber=i
*/
}
</script>

That way the server does the work, while the client keeps it going.
Ideally I would also get a return value/string from the php script.

Loading New JavaScript After The Web Page Is Loaded

Dec 24, 2006

I am using this to load the client JavaScript for a web application
when it is selected by the user) via an Ajax connection to the server.

I have found only two ways of loading new JavaScript after the web page
is loaded.

1. Create a new script element (where head is the id of the head tag):
var s = document.createElement('script');
s.setAttribute('type','text/javascript');
s.setAttribute('src', 'scripts/myscript.js');
s.setAttribute('defer', false);
document.getElementById('head').appendChild(s);

2. eval() of a string sent from the server via XmlHttpRequest.

The first method does not work with Apple Macintosh Safari. There is an
article on the apple support website
http://lists.apple.com/archives/Web...r/msg00024.html

Does anyone know of any other methods that are cross-browser?

I already know about the IFrame workaround, but I have not been able to
determine if that is really portable and practical. Does anybody have
experience with this?

Dynamically Loading External Javascript Files.

Apr 14, 2006

I have been struggling with a cross browser solution to loading
external javascript files on the fly.

I have been successful using the following code in IE6:

var newScr = document.createElement("SCRIPT");
newScr.src = "newScr.js";
newScr.type="text/javascript";
document.getElementsByTagName("head")[0].appendChild(newScr);

I believe the reason is that IE is loading the external file
syncronously while Firefox is not. Is there an onload event for
creating an element (if so I do not see it in Venkman). I have seen the
solution of using XMLHTTP to load the script but I am trying to get
around any dependency (atleast at this stage of the library) on
activex.
